Tipping over Cow King... Ethical or Not?

I have two computers mainly to surf the net on one while play games on the other.. lately its been an internet cafe for Diablo2 games... if I have two legit versions of the game.. run them both at the same time... and do the "cow king" trick where one does the killing and the other is there just to make a portal... is that a no-no for single player? (it does involve two computers)

I see it as fine. You have two copies of the game, two characters, ect. It is every bit as legit as getting a friend to make cows. You could also make a thread called "make Cowz PLZ!!1!!!111" in the forum.*

some may have a problem with it... technically it doesn't involve modding the game, so i can't see much to complain about.

just so you know, running the cow king in normal for TC3 items is about the only reason i can think of to do cow king runs. in nightmare and hell, there are always better monsters to run to get the really nice goodies. well, except for the cow king's set helm, which is best to get from nightmare cows.

well, any cow can drop the stuff. not just the cow king.

Some people might regard it as slightly cheesy, but its not certainly not "unethical". I can't really complain, since I use the .dll all the time to open portals for 99 questers (4 out of 7 of which have lost their opening privileges at one point or another).

Regular cows can drop the Cow King set items, not just the king - although the king is way more likely to do so.

I can't really see a problem with doing this, other than strictly speaking it isn't single player play any more (neither is joining a regular MP game, etc, and nobody has a problem with that here either).

I don't even have a problem with the .dll method so this equals to just playing MP for me. You could even "enlist" someone to help you kill cows together. :lol:

It's a modified version of the "D2gfx.dll" file. All it does is allows you to run two instances of the game on the same computer, which is otherwise not normally possible. I believe there used to be a link to it on the DiabloII.net site, but as I've had no need for anything like that since I discovered ATMA, I can't say for sure. Without it, the only way I know of to run two instances is to use WinXP, and run each instance as a separate user, using the buggy "fast user switching" to swap between them.

However, if you've got access to two machines networked together, and two copies of the game, that is by far the easiest way to do things. It also avoids any possible "using third-party utilities" issues, so that even purist players shouldn't object.

I also use the dll-method now that I'm cruising for the Cow King set. Using two comps is certainly a lot less cheesy.

Well, I would not buy a second comp for it - but some people already have two already. I actually do, too - but can't network them.

I think killing the cow king over and over is kind of cheesy. running through the cow level and having to avoid killing the cow king is more legit IMHO. But as they say do what you want on your computer.

PS What's the big need with offing the king anyways. You get chances to get all the items the cowking would drop with the other cows but the drops are higher in percentage with the king. My cow king set pieces all dropped from regular cows so I don't think killing the king is really needed.

Exactly. It's well known that rich people can afford lots more cheese.

hijack: cow tipping is possible. you just gotta be real quiet and then run up and shove them in the side. its hilarious. buahaha. ive also seen cows get overturned into feed troughs. the problem then is getting the buggers out again before they die

Do you have any clue how hard it is to tip a 1 ton animal over. Especially one that thats awake, since cows lay down to sleep (urban legend that they sleep standing up only some horses are known to do that and thats when they are in barns.) Cows on a regular basis bump into each other and just shift their weight so they don't fall down. Cow tipping is just a practical joke that country folk made up for city folk.

Its more likely you'll slip under that cow on the manure patch then actually knock one over. And if your lucky enough to knock one over I hope your lucky and fast enough to get back over the fence before they kick the snot out of ya.
