'Three Way Dance II' - H.C 1.10 Tournament

Did you -also- know that if you have nothing else to do, you can kill Baal in an hour? :) And still have time to off the Cow King?

Ladies and gents, it's been fun. Liselle was by FAR the hardest character of the three. Once she got past the Ancients, though, everything was made easy.

I got a bad draw in WSK2 and ended up with Black Souls. Fortunately, WSK3 was right next to the WP. WSK3 was pretty easy, with the things that possess things, rat men (I think), and moon lords.

Throne Room had snakes and resurrectors. Whatever else there was died too quick for me to notice.

And then the trial began. Lightning Fury really 'ownzors' everything. Especially if you happen to have Lower Resist as a backup. Did you know that Bartuc's set of minions aren't LI? And neither is he? I didn't until just now.

It's sad to say that Bartuc was the hardest part. Between my Valk and Decoy, I could keep the packs at bay long enough to fury them down thanks to the helpful Gargoyle's Bite.

Baal himself was pitiful compared to the trial of the Ancients. Between my Valk, the hireling, and myself, he fell pretty quickly. All I had to do was corner him, use charged strike, and keep up lower resistances.

Baal dropped Verdango's Hearty Cord (Unique Mithril Coil. Never seen it before!).

Not to leave something undone, I took out the last, the final threat... *cues dramatic music*

The COW KING!

Unfortunately, that music was the only thing that was dramatic.

EVEN though he was LI, Liselle's army took him down. He didn't leave anything useful, and must have spread the order down to his underlings.

I think you are the winner. I don’t like P§ÃÇHÕ’s idea of giving victory to the Guardian with the lowest level. I think that players, which get the same scores, should divide the victory plaices.

You´ve set the bar at the highest possible level. The Ranger, the Were-Summoner and the Talonsin will do their utmost to reach the same score. In time...


(I don´t like the lowest-level rule either. If I ever reach act 5 Hell with my characters, they will all start it at level 82 or higher, since that is the /p1 full clear pace. I will NOT skip areas just so I can have a lower level in the end...)

In response to the level thing: I don't really care what rule there is, but I'll just play at my own pace and probably finish around lvl 83/84 if i get that far that is. This judged by the progress of my chars in the previous tourney. Anyway, i couldn't care less, if i win it will be for the honour, not for the prizes, since i won't be accepting any. For me the challenge is in making that guardian, nothing else counts.

also I do not agree the lowest-level rule ,not because I have the hight level char but playing with high playerX is hell is a greater challenge and of course give you more XP. and more items for the price.

Polgara the Sorceress! She was a pretty normal CL/FO sorceress, I think, with 20 points in FO, Cold Mastery, and Chain Lightning, 14 in Lightning Mastery, and 10 in Lightning. 1 point went to all prereqs required (and to teleport and static). I've placed her layout below (in a code box, nonetheless) to avoid seeming spammy. :)

Her most difficult parts of the game was probably getting through Duriel's Tomb (but not actually Duriel) and the flayer jungles with the massive armies of cold immunes... and the bug in Chain Lightning.

Last, but certainly not least, Liselle.

She was probably the hardest character I had out of the three, but I only say that in terms of the Ancients battle. I think that if I had to redo her, I might dump extra points into the Poison/Plague skills instead of Charged Strike synergies, although CS was an excellent boss killer, so I think it balances out. I was very, VERY appreciative of the charges of PJ on the Gargoyle's Bite, and probably should have used it for more than just the last part of the game.

Her skill layout: 20 in LFury and Charged Strike, 2 in Lightning Strike, 6 in Power Strike, 4 Dodge, 3 Avoid, 4 Evade, 5 Decoy, 20 Valk, 3 Pierce. 1 more in all pre-reqs.

There you have it, folks. I'll be happy to answer any more specific questions you might have, but I think this gives a rough idea of my characters and layout. Looking back at Liselle's equipment, I feel I could have done much better.

I also realize I put several weapons in her list -- Gargoyle's Bite was the primary from when I found it off Pindle onwards, Loath Spike was the weapon long before that, and the others were on switch as the situation called for. :)

4) I am surprised that two of the characters only had a Squid belt (which they shared) without prefix. I see 4-row belts of the Whale for sale very often. NM Larzuk seems to have bought a large stock of those...

5) What was the point of the javelin the necromancer was holding?

6) Liselle, that´s a crapload of DEX you´ve got there! Why so much?

7) Did Polgara have many NDEs, considering her rather low life?

8) Reading your equipment list, I am encouraged. Apart from Team Eddings´ Elite Uniqes, my team has way better stuff for almost every slot already in Act 3 NM.

9) Did you skip many dangerous "unnecessary" areas? Which of the following areas did your characters play in Hell:
Pit level 2
Stony Tomb
Halls of the Dead
Tal´s six false tombs
Swampy Pit
Arachnid Lair
The six Kurast Temples
The RoF areas in act 5
Drifter Cavern & Icy Cellar
Halls of Vaught

I do love those rings. It saved me either a bunch of points in NRG or a bunch of slots wasted on mana gear...

I felt the boots could have been better (I wanted MF! MF!!!!), but figured the nice LR and FRW made up for it...

You know -- it never occured to me to shop for a better belt. Liselle borrowed it off of Zedar and never gave it back. I totally forgot about it until you just mentioned it. When I looked at my gear on the screen, I just assumed I had a better belt.... and never moused over it.

Your first question -- beats the heck out of me. I think I was going to try using them against Magic Immunes, but the plan never worked, and I never bothered fixing things back.

As for her DEX -- max block. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I think at the time of completion she had a 74% chance to block. Couple that with Dodge/Avoid/Evade and she was pretty tricky to hit.

7) She had a few NDEs. Fortunately I was able to teleport away enough, and my hireling kept trouble off my back. Her key to success was 'Teleport, teleport, teleport'. There were a few times flayers almost took her down, though....

8) It seems you made that comment way way back when I first posted the guardianing of Zedar and Polgara. Guess it goes to show you don't need good equipment to make a guardian.

9) I did the two ice caverns with the characters that could, and everyone did the Halls, as I went through them on the way to Nilly. As for the other unnecessary areas? The only character I have ever taken through most of those (excepting the Pit) was Seven, and that's because you made me.

Edit: *sigh* I just realized why Liselle's merc died so much. No armor. :)

and did you read correctly the rules ?

Trading is NOT allowed between different players in this tournament, but it IS allowed between your own three characters

So I trade an alone equipment for the 3 merc, ok if you have disctinct merc, you can't give the same weapon to each one. but you can use the best armor you founded.

ps: I founded 2 fal runes niak niak niak :xtongue:

I did read the rules, and found the trading part especially helpful. :)

Everything I have on my characters is stuff I found with either Liselle, Polgara, or Zedar (Although it seemed like more often than not, the appropriate character found the appropriate item for their class).

I think I remember why I forgot to equip armor on my Merc (I just noticed as I was actually looking more closely at my gear thanks to jiansonz's questions).

During my first batch of MF runs, I gave him my 4 PTopaz armor and Liselle wore Smoke. He died so much that I put Smoke in the stash, put the 4 PTopaz armor on Liselle, and appearantly forgot to put back something on Merc boy.

I found several Lums, a few Lems, and a Mal. :xtongue:

No new finds though. I am going to start a round of MF'ing very soon so I have gear ready for when I enter hell.

It gets even -better- in Hell, when Bone Prisons' life gets yet another boost. It's still slow, but if you're prison-happy, it's still very very easy.

I'd suggest lots of Matriarchial Javelin crafting if you can afford the Sol Runes. Although, I never found Titans, so maybe they're waiting for you...

For those who have read the Maldar stuff you'll remember that ghosts can walk through Prisons though. They're slightly annoying, though low life makes them fairly easy to kill. The real problem is Act V Slingers. I discovered that in Hell (but *not* in Nightmare) they throw through prisons!

That, regrettably, is true. Ghosts are easy enough to wipe out with CE since they travel in such tight packs. The slingers are a bit rough, but I seem to remember them occasionally actually targetting the prisons instead of me occasionally.

If not, that's what curses are for!
