TEAM Archoteuthis update: almost ready for Hell

squidonastick(druid): level 70 finished all NM
calamari(necro): level 70 finished all NM except cowking
ikazushi(sorc): level 65 finished all NM

I guess you could say that I have been playing it safe. I didn’t advance my chars to NM until they were all level 50. I planned on leveling all my chars to 70 before hell, but I am getting bored. They all more or less waltzed through NM, and then leveled up on players 8 Pindy runs (save Nilhithak quest til last).

Now is when the real tourney begins for me. I assumed that my cautious style would get me to hell. So far so good. But my softcore track record in Hell scares me. I have died many many times, and I always fight to the max not to die—even tho it is softcore.

I do not have anything excited to report in my prize stash. I suppose Hell is where the good stuff comes anyhow.

I do have a lot of runes. Is it my imagination or does NM drop midlevel runes better than hell? So far I have created “Loreâ€, “Maliceâ€, “Stealthâ€, and “Honorâ€. I have the following unused runes, and I am looking for advice on how to use them:
1 or 2 each of el—thul. I cube these up to amns.

I know that isn’t the right order by rank, but I am going from memory. All my chars are caster types. Max resists. Max life. No blocking (yet. But two have a lot of stat points saved up).

Smoke and Lionheart seem like obvious choices since I have a Lum. But memory is tempting since I am not blocking with my sorc anyhow. I plan on making an elite honor polearm for my act 2 mercs. Maybe another lore pelt for my druid if I can find a good white one to socket. What are the chances that I will find an Um? I have only found one since I started 1.10. I forget what words use Um but I think that Stone was a good one, and also there was a good weapon.

Anyhow I would appreciate any suggestions in this dept.

Greetings folks! Rome: Total War has been taking up a lot of my time these days, however I've also been working on levelling up my Druid before taking the rest of my characters through Act III. This tournament is NOT over by any means , so keep bumping this thread with those updates!

Survived most of Act III (got the durance 2 wp) even though I haven't dealth with the resists issue yet. Valk + Decoy = action as far away as possible. Found a guardian angel from whatshisname the unique flayer at the bottom of the dungeon. It's getting harder to think of e-mailing that stash away!

Also, I found a damaged wire fleece. Made me think: If I upgrade it to normal, then socket, it would get 2 sockets (most likely) right? Might make a nice 'smoke' runeword.

@bigsquid With those runes I would make a 'Lionheart' for caster chars. With an Um I would make either a 'crescent moon' or a 'Gloom'. 'Stone' is nice for def, but lower on resists.

I think you'd get 3 sockets, more likely than not. I used a damaged fleece w/ the recipe hoping for a 3 socket and I got it. I'm not entirely clear on how the recipe works, though.

Most of the info on purediablo.com is out of date. theres still alot of stuff up there that says 'when 1.09 comes out, then this should change, and this bug will be fixed etc etc' so i dont relie too much for reliability (although i think thats for the beta vesion of 1.10, so might still hold true)

That table has never failed me, so it´s at least fairly accurate.

The socketing recipe rolls a number 1-6 and you get that number of sockets (but not more than the maximum for that item type and item level (ILVL=1 for "fixed" Crude items)).

So erimatbrad is correct with the Wire Fleece. It has 1/6 chance of 1 socket, 1/6 chance of 2 sockets and 2/3 chance of 3 sockets.

Larzuk always gives the maximum number of sockets for the item type and ilvl in question.

Your best bet to get a decent 2-socketed lightweight armor would be to start with a Crude version of one of the early exceptional ones: Ghost Armor to Trellised Armor.

@erimatbrad and jiansonz: thanks for the heads up on that table. I thought with an Ilvl of 1 it would only get two sockets. Of course, I'd still have to find that lum rune to make a smoke anyway :lol:

Did kick mephisto's sorry butt though. Sadly, the only unique he dropped was a flail. Still, happy to have survived this far anyway, so items are mostly just a bonus now.

Well, it's been a bit of an up and down week for me. Firstly, I'll say that it's good to see so many still here and making good progress. I did manage to take Starm through the first part of Act IV, after having finished off Act III previously, and she's looking quite strong.

However, I have been forced to stop playing D2, as I seriously fractured my arm on the weekend. I'm OK, but I had to go to hospital, and the end result is that my arm is in a sling for six weeks. I can't play effectively with only one hand, so I'm going to have to take a break. It's not the end, though, just a big slow-down for a fairly slow player. Good luck to all of you who are still in this tourney. I'll be checking in from time to time until I'm able to continue, but don't worry - I won't be doing a Gouda and come back to beat everyone. :thumbsup:

Don't worry, slow starters are the best finishers.

I added another point to the score yesterday, and plenty of levels for my Sorc. Since getting that frozen orb, players 8 is as easy as players 3 before!
Anyway, freed all the barbs and cleared both tundra type area's. The way point was just before the entrance to the Icy way, so all set to free Anya.

Well, my last team member met her death to a CE/LE/Might Aura doll pack in the Durance lvl 2. She had defeated Meph last session, but I decided it would be a good way to start the next session by killing meph and seeing what came up. However, she got ambushed by a doll pack. Survived the first hit, but didn't get the rejuv in time to survive the second. An avoidable death if I was playing just a bit more carefully.

I'm a lot disappointed I didn't get even one guardian out of the three, but I can at least see where I made my mistakes.
