'Three Way Dance II' - H.C 1.10 Tournament

Heh, and this is just in NM.

When I was taking Wolf the Werewolf through Hell Act II, the absolute bane of his life were tomb rooms containing both multiple Unravellers and a mummy generator. Mummy generators alone were bad enough, with Unravellers to keep reviving the fallen mummies it was taking me hours to clear a single room.

Great. Just make me look forward to my next section of the tournament. :P

Resl – (Amazon – Passive/Bow) – lvl 24 – Act II Nml - 11 points - R.I.P. Duriel
Conqueror Hias – (Necro – Summon/Curses) – lvl 71 – Act IV NM - 66 points
Destroyer Sepp – (Paladin – Combat/Offensive) – lvl 64 – Act IV NM - 52 points

Hias: WP: Harrogath - Last Quest: Cow King
Sepp: WP: Harrogath - Last Quest: Diablo

Act IV wasn't very challenging (exception see later). After some zealing I quickly found Izual who took some time to kill but didn't do any harm. The only problem was when I ran into a pack of Undead and no other monsters around for leeching, then I had to drink a potion (hey this is HC, better be careful than dead). A boss in the City of the Damned dropped my first ever Thundergod's Vigor. Too bad none of my characters are allowed to use it.
River of Flames had Abyss Knights, Venom Lords and Corpse Splitters. No problem for Sepp. The Hellforge spilled out an UM rune. Now this is finally a good find. This will be kept for later (I'm thinking Crescent Moon here).
For the Chaos Sanctuary i switched back to /players 1. This is always the scaries part for all of my melee characters HC or not. Halbu had a nice Harpoon for sale that helped a lot in there. A random monster in the Sanctuary dropped me a LEM rune (nice) and I found a Fine Small Charm (+3 Max damage).
After dispatching all monsters in the Sanctuary I took on the Grand Vizier of Chaos which was a joke. He only had 4 Minions with him. The Infector of Souls wasn't any more difficult, he and his minions just took longer to kill. Lord De Seis wasn't a problem either. Since he doesn't have Oblivion Knights as Minions any more (that was really scary back in the 1.09 days).
Sepp took on Diablo. No problem there. As always Diablo only dropped yellow items that were all junk.

Recent Set/Unique Items:
- Sigon's Shelter
- Sander's Superstition (The second)
- Thundergod's Vigor
- Milabrega's Diadem

Something odd I've noticed during my travels in this tournament: the vulture demons seem to be counted as having a ranged attack. Twice I've encountered a vulture with the multiple shots attribute. The one that I found with teleporting was funny: I'd get near, it would warp away and come closer as I dealt with the remaining minions; then as it came within a certain range it would warp away again without me doing a thing to it.

My question becomes what do they do for their ranged attack?

It's like busses. No DII for ages, then 3 days in a row where I can play! :surprise:

Took Edmund past Andy (not too much trouble, even on p8) and then into the desert where he claimed his cube and battled through the sewers for the extra skill point.

That's where I'll leave it for today, unless of course I get some more time later tonight...

Another update before I leave town again:

Team Steel (steelsixtyIV) - 137 points
Destroyer Steel_Sword - (Barb – Warcries/Com.Skills) - lvl 54 - Act III NM
Destroyer Steel_Poison - (Necro - P&B/Curse) - lvl 52 - Act III NM
Destroyer Steel_Magic - (Sorc - Fire/Light.) - lvl 60 - Act IV NM

Magic leads the way again as she presses on to Act IV. She is the easiest to play with while I try to figure out what my final builds for Sword and Poison look like. I had intended them to be a Venomancer and Iron Barb but right now progress is slow. Maybe things would have been easier if I would have stuck with my original plan

Take care and watch your red!

Destroyer Herne (Druid, Shapeshifting/Summoning) - level 60 - Kurast Docks, NM - 43 points
Destroyer Odysseus (Paladin, Offensive/Defensive) - level 60 - Kurast Docks, NM - 43 points
Destroyer Elayna (Assassin, Martial Arts/Shadow Disciplines) - level 53 - Lut Gholein, NM - 37 points

Herne is now in act 3. Progress is very safe, if a bit slow at times. Duriel got owned by a combination of tanking wolves, HF merc with upgraded Woestave (slowing + Open Wounds) and level 2 Fury with the 'Strength' Cutlass.

My "full clear, sell (almost) everything" playing style is slow and sometimes tedious. It has one very signficant advantage, though: I am rarely short of cash. In fact, my characters tend to fill up both stash + inventory rather quickly. That means regular (and long) visits in the gambling dens. Since I have found really great gloves and belt, the lastest 12-15 millions have all been used to gamble circlets and boots. While I have landed some decent circlets, the boots have totally failed me. Herne and Odysseus have used a pair with 20% FRW, +21 MF, +70% gold since Act 2 Normal, for crying out loud! No resists at all. Should it be that hard to gamble a pair with some FRW, MF and at least one resist? Obviously.

Herne was "full" again halfway through the True Tomb. Almost 2 million more to spend at Elzix´place. This was an exceptionally dry gambling session. Only 350k left. I like to keep at least 150k as a buffer. OK then, a few more tries.

Whoa!! There she blows...

Minor update

The sewers were annoying, but not as much as anticipated. Boy, will I be glad to get out of Act II where it seems every 4 out of 5 monsters is poison immune.

I had to officially park my first monsters evar. I ran into a PI/PI maggot that regenerated faster than I could whack it with Stormrider. I probably could have killed him if I had taken out his minions, but I doubt it.

I also left Coldworm alone. The poison damage in that room was too much for me to handle with my -20 poison resists. Coldworm spawning more maggots was the clincher. Everyone was poison immune.

I never like playing in Lost City. I grabbed the waypoint, and did bite and runs on anything that wasn't a zombie so I could get experience as I ran through the level looking for the Valley of the Snakes.

I simply got impatient in Claw Viper Temple. I skipped all the mummies, and when I got to L2 with approximately six greater mummies, I teleported to the altar, grabbed the Viper Amulet, and town portaled out of there. I toyed with the idea of biting Fangskin, but didn't want to deal with everyone else.

I am so looking forward to not having to deal with the hordes of undead and their (usually) 75% poison resists.

Next up, the run through the Pallace Cellar and Arcane Sanctuary.

 Another Viperfork dropped while I was in the Crystalline passage. I saw a spear lying on the ground and was like, hmm... I bet it's a Viperfork. It was. (Creepy!). Now that I have two (one in the stash for you eager types).... I think it's a sign that I should socket mine. Any suggestions on what should go there? A Shael? An Amn? Hmm....

A minor update, taking time off, from when I lost my first character in Act I Hell.

My Necromancer has just beaten Act I Hell getting the malus and beating andariel. This is the fathest I have been on a hardcore necro. Going through the Tamoe Highland facing lots of ranged skeleton bosses which werent much of a problem. Going into the Outer Cloister was easy except the Stone Skin Yeti boss I went against. Barracks was all easy, so was the Smith. I had a NDE in the catacombs when a iwasn't paying attention to the boss I killed and he was CE and I was a little too close bringing me down about 700 hit points with like 150 left. Andariel was pretty easy, having to leave once to go get army back. I fought andariel the first time and wasn't doing that good and I killed about 1/2 of her the first time. Came back with new army and finished her off dropping just a couple rares and crap. He now waits in Act II Hell for Ormus... lots of catching up to do for him.

I've also noticed said vultures with the MS attribute, but I've never been able to figure out why they spawn with it. It could just be a glitch in blizzard programming.

Viperfork is fast enough already so I'd go with an Amn :)

You can never have enough life leech, especially in HC.

Hi everyone,

First true update in a month, and that only from half an hour playing.
Played a tiny little bit with my sorc, just picking up the horadric cube, so she can start cubing away some runes. (she's my rune keeper).
No points or quests, but she made a level. The merc also made a level, but is still far behind. Maybe a sewer run for him tonight/tomorrow.

Hopefully I'll have some more time soon, but I must admit that the Mini MFO last weekend was very addictive, so i may spend some time running Meph soon.

Slow and steady always wins the race. :)

Saving Anya is always something I dread because of Gloams. Fortunately, my first attempt gave me a level with two types of Sirens and normal, boring ghosts. Woo freaking hoo!

Nothing was immune to lightning. This, as they say, was all good. I used LF almost 95% of the time, and then viperfork when there were LI bosses. Interesting fact -- if you throw a javelin with LF, then quickly switch weapons, you can get the CTC spells off that weapon.

This was actually the easiest save anya quest I've done. Seeing thirty magic balls fly at you from harpies isn't fun, mind, but all I have to do is throw something back to make the screen a mess of white bolts.

Anya, bless her little heart, gave me a crappy spear. I hope her feelings aren't hurt, as I've returned (well, eventually) every single gift she's given my TWD characters.

She could at least let me gamble three items for free. That'd be nicer...

I'm probably going after Nilly before taking on the ancients. I'm a little worried about them. The plan is to get a wand of Lower Resist, and blast them with that before trying to LF them to death.

I was going to make an attempt last night, but got distracted by Manhunt on Bravo. Hilarious show for all the wrong reasons. :)

Anyhoo, tonight is the debate, so not much D2 time for me... so don't expect a story of triumphing over the evil ancients tomorrow morning. :)

Man, things are so much quicker to progress through the acts with only one character.

I swear I heard Axe whimper as I stood before the entrance to Tal Rasha's Tomb, contemplating all the skeletons inside. Fortunately, the skeletons (and accompanying greater mummies) were the only undead. Duriel wasn't too hard, but did use a lot of town portals to keep from paying 43k to resurrect the merc.

Duriel dropped Death's Hand, which goes into the stash, and the Blade of Ali Baba, which goes into Axe's hands. I had to stop drooling when I saw that gold tulwar. (Not going to ask Axe to stop, the rabies is getting to him.)

I finnaly got my 3rd Conqueror, being Ormus getting through act V very easily. Nothing really was hard at all except those Posion Snakes in the Halls of Vaught they do crazy damage.

Started on Shrenk on /players 1 and those red archers and slingers are both very annoying. Finnaly got to Shrenk and killed him then moved on to the barbarians where I rescued them easy. Faced lots of Gloams in the Frozen River but I have 75% Lightning Resist its ok. Rescued anya easily and got a crappy helm as usual. Nighlithahk was pretty easy, but those dam posion snakes were hard with their massive damage, I had 75% Posion Resist...
I did Ancients on /players 8 and that was pretty quick and easy, Mana Burn was annoying tahts all. Ran through level 3 of WSK because i was IronMaidened a very lot and if I furyed once I would die. All of baals minions were easy and so was baal, just annoying :) with freeze since my sorc lost my Rhyme Shield only shael I have found so far. My conqueror slot is now open and I get to use Vampire Gaze! Gonna do Baal runs until level 74 probably. My current life is 1,500 without oaksage.

Destroyer February – (Sorc - Cold/Light.) – lvl 62 – Act IV NM
Destroyer March – (Paladin – Combat/Offensive) – lvl 60 – Act IV NM
Conqueror April – (Assassin – Shadow/Trap) – lvl 60 – Act V NM

April has made Conqueror :winner: in fact I think its the lowest level I've made conqueror at, or at least the lowest I remember. Usually I play it safe and get up to 70ish before taking on the Ancients, and then move straight on to Hell (if my eq is ready). She was just killing so quick and easily that I didnt see a need to level up. Now she can wear those nice crafted gloves I made and free up some inventory space.

From here the plan is to have March survive the OKs so that everyone is high enough for February can get a nice map to run Hell Countess.

Hwanin's Splendor (Grand Crown) is now in the stash.

I got lucky and had a Grand Marsh map with no gloams.

My luck ran out when I got to Flayer Dungeon 2. Within steps of the stairs into the level I ran into some extra fast fanatacism ghosts, and nearby were some might enchanted bats. They quite quickly wiped out my merc, oak sage, and grizzly in no particular order and numerous times. I kept recasting minions to allow me to swap in my teleport ammy and immediately teleported into a pack of three flayer shamans and about 30 flayers. About a grand total of nine teleports and two full rejuvs later, I was stuck in a corner with no enemies nearby.

NDEs are becoming more common, but that's also because my definition of NDE is expanding. When I run into enemies that can knock out 2/3 of my health ball in two hits, it gets scarier.

I really hope I manage to stay on my toes enough to make my first guardian. The farthest I've ever made it before in HC was Durance 2 with a naked druid in 1.09, but he got pk'ed by a hydra sorc under the guise of helping me.

Since I was stuck at a conference all day, and tired all evening; not so much with the D2.

Liselle made her way up to level 79 and the Ancient's Way WP. I'm still tempted to run Nilly first. I bought a nice, 250,000 gold wand of lower resist. Whee! Now I have an obscene number of charges of level 2 LR. Hopefully that'll help me hit the Ancients even harder. I'm especially wary of the FE bug...
