'Three Way Dance II' - H.C 1.10 Tournament

I'm in this tourney - this is what will get me back in the game :-))
I haven't decided on my team yet, however I have made an interesting stats on the post in this threath. I have counted how many chars of each class will participate. Here are the results:

12 Sorces (expected - any 2 sklill trees make a valuable combo)
5 Ligthning/Cold, 4 Fire/Cold, 3 Fire/Lightning

11 Necros (the safest class may be - close behind the leader)
6 Summoning/Curses, 4 P&B/Curses, 1 Summoning/P&B

10 Amazon (the ranged warrior is high-valued in HC as always)
8 Bow/Passive, 2 Jav/Passive

9 Assasins - all of them Trappers (the single most used subclass - noone is risking MA)

7 Paladins (mostly hammerdins I guess and only 1 ranger)
6 Combat/Offensive, 1 Offensive/Defensive

7 Druids
4 Summoning/Elemental, 3 Summoning/ShapeShifting

3 Barbs (of course - they are so unprepared to use only 2 skills)
all of them Warcry/Combat skills

Psycho already knows I'm in and knows exactly what I'm doing, but for the benifit of the lay *ahem* I mean, non-Aussies out there, here's my intro.

Team Tolkien

Boromir - Barbarian (warcries/combat skills). Destroyer slot: Weapon. Conqueror slot: helm.
Galadriel - Sorceress (lightning/fire). Destroyer slot: Gloves. Conqueror slot: Armour.
Arwen - Assassin (Shadow/martial arts). Destroyer slot: Jewelry. Conqueror slot: Weapon.

You'll note my rewards selections are reasonably spread out, and that I haven't bothered with Merc selections, figuring that runic items/rares will serve just as well in most cases. Expecting to spend several months on Act I Hell for Countess runs (assuming I make it that far).

You'll also note there are no (cough) cheap summoners in my selection. It's supposed to be a HARDCORE tournament, damn you! DAMN YOU ALL!!!

Actually, it seems more fair then unfair to me :D I guess I'll just go with a good old fana zealer then.

Reportings: Well.. nothing to add so far, found alot of chippies and one chest dropped 5 rares for my necro :) my pally had the most trouble with the Raven but he was also the only one who encountered her while she was poison enchanted. I'll play some more today.

Quick report before I hit the sack.

Galadriel has blasted through Act I, reaching quickly for that Act II merc and his tanking ability. I just found the Staff of Kings. Novas and fireballs are dropping everything, even on players 8. Score = 7. No near-death experiences as yet, everything is remaining rather dull save for the occasional merc loss (which is good).

No decent items to note, only a set Small Shield (meh) for muling. Andariel did drop big, though, with about 8 or 9 rares, including an Eagle Orb and a Wrist Spike, and the occassional rare axe has also grabbed my interest. I forsee no immediete problems for the sorc, or any of my characters for that matter.

Aren't we suppose to sit in lut gohlein (sp? w/e) untill all the chars reach it??
and about the andy drop: 8 or 9 rares?? :scratch: doesn't she drop at least one gem and upto 5 items next to it? hm... dunno gratz on the fast progress, seems like it took you under 2 hours to run trough act 1 and half of act 2.. It took me about 30 minutes to get trough the den of evil with any of my chars alone :cheesy:

Yust found out how great wirts leg as a starter weapon can function, 2-8 damage very fast attack speed and with 3 chipped topaz it can do some massive damage when youre lvl 1 :)

Nice! Zedar found a Tal (mm, half of my future runic armor) and a Tir, which are the best normal drops I've seen. I think Ral is actually -the- best she can drop with her rune drop, so that looks like good signs of things to come!

It's a little loophole everybody can abuse. The rules state that characters must stay within one act of each other, however it doesn't state that characters must wait at the next act till others arrive. Therefore, you could complete all the quests in Act II and still have characters finishing off Act I. The only thing you cannot do in this case would be to start Act III.
 
Well, you've given us a nice long time to decide if we're in on this one Psycho - things are really busy for me right now, but I'm very tempted. I will probably make a decision in the next week or so.

Just a question on the questing rules - I see what you've done with the Imbue and Naming quest rewards; what about the Socketing reward from the first quest of act V?

All will focus on cold damage. I've not played a Paladin beyond level 6 before. I will start with him.

Oh yes, killing Shenk is also sufficient for completing that quest. My apologies, I'm glad somebody pointed it out :)

Yeah, it felt strange to me in the first go around. But I just had to remind myself that I was playing a team, and not three individual characters. :)

I have my characters decided, but as I said I won't be starting them for a while.

Team Bubbleh

Bjorn (Summoning/Shapeshifting): A name that means "bear", I wonder what I'll be playing. I was real tempted to do a Armageddon Werebear but decided I would be a little more traditional as I've yet to make a 1.10 Maul Bear. He'll be the typical WB build, but I may go against my own morals and use HoW (if you know me, I swear by OS, anything else is blasphemous) as well as use 1-handed Axes. I'm a blasphemor :o Weapon at Destroyer, Headgear at Conquerer.

Freya (Bow and Crossbow/Passive): In Norse Mythology, Freya was the godess of the Valkyrs (Valkyries). I've been playing D2 for 4 years now but I've still yet to make a Matriarch, this is probably because I've made no real effort towards it. This will be my second HC attempt. I'm going traditional with this one as well using Straf/Guided Arrow. I'm very tempted to do a Dexazon though. . . Gloves at Destroyer, Merc Weapon at Conquerer.

Lorride (Martial Arts/Shadow): My last HC Martial Artist died at a real early age, Einmyria (as the daughter of Loki) specialized in Fists of Fire, Lorride (as the daughter of Thor) will specialize in Claws of Thunder. Boots at Destroyer, Jewelry at Conquerer.

During lunch I read the frost zealot guide and discovered that it requires extensive points in all three trees. So, I have changed my team members to exclude the Paladin and include another character I have little experience with-a Druid.

Team Fx
Fa - Amazon - Bow/Passive - Weapon/Glove,
Fl - Sorceress - Lightning/Cold - Jewelry/Shield; and,
Fd - Druid - Elemental/Summoning - Jewelry/Boots

All three elements will now be represented by my team.

I hope i have the time for this as i will be starting a new study in a few weeks but we'll see about that by then :uhhuh:

ps. i would have liked a necro with a tourny like this but don't see how to fit it in the theme, if there are any suggestions they are welcome :D (the sassin will have to go then not the other two)
