The Truth About Hacks

The Truth About Hacks

I've been around these forums for a few months and many people seem to be ignorant of Diablo 2's Bnet status. I am not a hacker, but I also do not consider myself a "fullfledged legit player", merely because I use a maphack. I have been to forums based around hacking Diablo 2, so I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to what can be done and what can't on Bnet.

1. There is absolutely no possible way to import/bug any character on Bnet. This has been patched way before.

2.There are no current public dupes out, this means that 99% of the Bnet population DO NOT AND CANNOT DUPE. I'm always seeing posts with people accusing others of being dupers when all the dupes are private ones probably used by Team V.I.P and the like.

3.There are no public bots other than a Pindle Bot, Andy Bot and a Eldritch+Shenk Bot. So please do not go ranting on how people can cheat on ladder by botting Baal.

4.The chances of getting caught using a maphack are extremely slim despite what everyone says. I am not encouraging the usage of maphack.

5.There is currently an Act 2 Drophack so be careful on trading your Anni's and Gheed's.

That's all.

2. so 1% of the current population can dupe... that's quite a lot considering the population of bnet.

3. we'll rant whatever we like. The possibility is there, isn't it?

4. and the point of telling people this is?

Well, I'd say you can't be 100% sure. Although I agree, they probably can't do it. Of course, that's what people said about the things you could do with the Matrix hack; "totally impossible."

Right, but it seems the Pindlebotters level up fairly well overnight. They couldn't beat a team of 24-hour baal runners trading on and off on 1 character, but they sure as hell can out-experience any single player. Baal at day, Pindle at night.

It's nice to warn people about this. Thankfully, the one I know about does corrupt the hacker's character. But still, that's easy to get around, so it's good to let people know to be safe.

Ok, I have an urgent issue of concern that I think would fit into this thread.

Tonight on bnet, I was doing some boss runs with my Pally. A few people joined, and this one person joined who just stayed in town most of the time. I asked him why he was just standing around, and politely asked him to leave if he wasn't going to do boss runs with me. Then he got all mad and called me a d*ckhead and got really cocky with me. He brought back his Necro and hostiled me. I thought nothing of it, just laughed it off. So anyways, I finished up Baal and left the game. Then I made another Boss runs game and started my runs when I was whispered to by the same person. He said he was going to steal my password and mule all my stuff, blah blah blah. I could tell he was really pissed at me, but for what cause? Anyways, he said just wait, give me 15 minutes. Before all of this he replied in a strange way with the C: drive at the beginning of the sentence. The rest was jibberish, don't know what it was. But I think the most interesting thing he told me was to inquire about brute force. What the hell is that!?

My point is, this isn't possible is it? To steal/change another person's password on bnet? If it is, he is in for some serious trouble because I am perfectly legit, and I busted my *** to get where I am right now with my Pally. I hope it isn't possible. Afterall, that would make anyone else on bnet targeted.

By the way, if anyone wants to know this happened on USEast ladder, and his account is *mattseaux.

Brute forcing is when you just keep trying different common passwords and such over and over until you hit one that works, usually done with a program. Unless you have a mind-numbingly simple password, the chances of brute force working are next to nil.
No need to worry, just another kid trying to sound like a 'leet hacker'

Edit: Oh, and the whisper with 'C:\ ' then gibberish was something he typed himself to try and fool you into thinking he was running a hack on you or something. Again, just him trying to sound like he knows what he's doing, it's fairly common.

I hope you took screenshots of it, then send them to blizzard and get him banned. Then he'll be the one who got his account taken away.

I Like Tea, haha don't worry about that guy and his C drive jibberish. That's all done with something called D2Loader to fool people. He can't brute force your account because after a few failed attempts on your account, all other attempts made will cause a Unable to Identify Application Version to pop up.

If you play fairly often, you'd notice if he was trying to brute force your password also. Try signing into your account with a wrong password, then sign in with the correct one. When you sign on, it will display the number of attempted incorrect logins in red text. If you see something like 50 tries then someone is trying to bruteforce you I'd guess.

Also, I'd imagine it would take an insane amount of time to accomplish this since if you try too many times in a short period of time it is going to block you from logging on for awhile. Kinda like a temp ban.

Also, i believe he cant even go into your account when you are already logged on.

Yes, you can. You just can't have one character in two games, or even in one game for that matter.

Yeah, heh, I guess you guys are right. There is no way he can hack me. I added him to my friends list to see what he says to everyone else, and he was telling his friend Max he was gonna replace my pass with a Pindlebot. Lol, whatta noob...sorry.

Oh, and A_S_G, don't you worry. I got a screenshot of what he was saying to his friend. I squelched him already. I have no time for idiots like him.

And he's an idiot for doing a /f m and telling you this. Cant understand how some humans' IQ can be so low...

Well, somewhat relating to the topic...
I was once rolled back in a crashed game so I figured if the game autosaves chars somehow when you exit, you could possibly exploit it in a way to dupe items. Someone has an item to dupe, he gives the item to another char who then exits the game and getting his char saved. Then the char in the game crashes the game causing a rollback (possibly with that drophack or whatever). I'm not sure about if it would work even, but I heard some people are using something like this to dupe.
Anyway, does the server save only the exiting person making this scenario possible?

Way back in 1.08, I had some good stuff that i wanted to make copies of. I would drop the item and immediately alt-f4 while my friend was in the game in hopes that the item would "dupe". Unfortunately, it doesnt work. Blizzard probably has set scenarios for when to autosave a character. Other ones I know of include the completion of quests, imbuing, and socketing.

The concept seems simple, sure, but pulling it off successfully is not easy.

That's the most common method of duping, I don't know the details, but basically people would use a program to overload their server and cause a disconnect, rolling back their characters.

Correct me if I wrong, but wasn't there a public dupe method like this released recently? Except that it was easily traceable and corrupted characters?

Duping is simple... I can do it, but I just cant perm it. Even if I could, I would be a good boy with my methods :O

Did I stumble into the wrong forum? I thought talking about hacks, cheats, etc. was against the rules? I suppose if you must discuss this stuff, don't be so explicit.

ekarisor - at this point its just having fun makeing fun of idiots who use them

jayaz - yeah the mos recent duping method RAPES the character that tries it, and chances are you will lose the item too.

So heres a fun anecdote: this guy was in a came galled "help me xfer" lol. I know these are scams but i go anyway just to see whats up. He goes outside town act 1 by charsi, and puts me in the corner. To see if he can trust me, he wants me to drop my gear on the ground just for fun i guess. As if to lure me, he begins to drop the items he wants to transfer lol. You should have seen it...no offense to anyone who thinks these are good items, but not for trying to scam someone. He starts dropping buriza, cats eye, stealskull...just JUNK. Things I have in triplicate. I said "gee, i wish i could teleport outta town ans steal them like you can teleport into town..." so he is indignant to the fact that I am accuseing him and says one cannot teleport into town!!" Repeatedly i'm like "just xfer, i have all that junk...its crap i dont want it." So after i wouldnt drop anything, he starts picking up his items.

Then i say "FINE! i'll do it. come to act 2" lol. So we go into the bar in Lut G and i say "go on the other side, and drop all your items again" he says "F***in SCAMMER!" and leaves lol. just goes to show you, if you are going to scam, use godly items. no one wearing an enigma will ever want a stealskull.
