The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

stupidest thing i did was dump all my gear on the ground to remake a guy, only to totally forget about the merc. he had a nice ebugged fort, ugh.

done that aswell, i think most ppl have.
I've not done it since i impliemented my new char deleting method, which basically involves getting the merc naked and removing switch items before i even consider removing any other gear, just to be on the safe side.

Tho i fondly remember the "oh **** the merc's gear!" feeling.

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Okay, I don't know if this is a new scam or not, but I foolishly fell for it yesterday, and I want to get the word out.

I joined a game called 'Ber for 800k' or something similar.
There were a few players in the game, looked like they were hanging around and duelling - not unusual.

The trading toon (a necro named o_0, I think) was standing near the town gate, apparently watching the duels, so I went over with my gold to buy his rune. I'm sure you can see where this is going. We opened a trading window, then his partner hostiled and killed me, causing my 800k and a few full rejuv pots to spill all over the ground. I think that he used an attack that had 'area of effect'; not sure as I was in a trading window, but the sound effect made me think of a spell.

I didn't think you could be pk'd in town, never mind with a trade window open. These guys must have found the perfect spot for me to stand on.

I had a feeling all along that something was a little strange, but I was blinded by my greed for the Ber. The stupid thing is, they must hang around forever waiting for someone to take the bait. My gold find barb can make 800k in around 10-15 mins. Maybe 3 or 4 Trav runs - big deal. What a waste of time and energy.

If it seems too good to be true...

I am sure that their Mothers are so proud of their little boys

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Yeah 800K seems suspicious. Hell, even at what it should have been (5million or more), I'd still be suspicious of a HR for gold trade.

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

I spent 5 hours earlier trying to shop an Artisan's Light Plate/Mage Plate of the Squid and an ATSoD. The light plate popped up and for some reason my thought process told me it was useless since it was a LP not a MP so I went back through the portal. Soon as I came out the other side of the porta I realized what I had done and did a quick s/e before I did something else stupid.

>< I can relate. You get so used to checking, then closing the window that you forget you're searching.

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Stupid things, wow this is an old game.

I made a Infinity Spear.

Wrong rune order, yep been there done that. Now I always look them up.

Got scammed out of three high runes trying to buy enigma.

Had my second hell forge scammed by a hammerdin.

I thought that synergies counted plus to skills as well.

I didn't understand the effects level had on skellie AR and thought my level 80 summonner would have no problems in uber trist

Way back when the game was new I put on new gear to retrieve my gear on my dead character. (I didn't realize it would be there when I restarted the game.) Dispite not being as good my new gear had a greater gp value than my old gear, then I died in my new gear. Bye bye

Didn't realize that I couldn't join NM games if I killed baal in NM.

This week I did two painful runs in Hell Chaos with my beserker barb before noticed that I was trying to do it with the single point in concentrate. Remember drink coffee first, only play diablo after you have at least half a cup.

Almost all these errors were a result of not really paying attention to what I was doing... I am guessing I am not finished making errors like these.

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

I traded a near perfect Griffons for a vex rune while i could have gotten a lot more from it... (at that time i had totally forgotten about this place)

Later a guy who was about to quit the game and needed a vex to make his last Hoto traded me a 198% Hoz a 25 mara and an ed arch plate enigma for the vex .... i felt so happy that day (and i still do feel very happy for that trade!)

OT: How is that something "stupid?"

I once purchased a new mercenary so he can be closer to me in levels. Didn't take the gear off...

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

1) brought unid soj
2) brought unid tal amu and mara
3) brought mage plate engima ( you know when they flashing item, and you are, WOOT WOOT, PRESS ACC NOW, so they did and i got normal plate with crappy adds )
4) transfered all items from char to char, double checked i transfered all, deleted then i remembered that i forgot to transfer perfect eth crystal CTA from switch>.<

went in pack of cows with 51% claw block assa level 89 on hell mode. 3 hits Deeds ( HC )

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

  • I inserted CtA runes in the wrong order
  • I inserted Bramble runes in the wrong order
  • I bought a shot empty eth Titans in 1.09... auto-replenish didn't make it usable again back then, but I should have become wary that was shown with a red background. The scammer felt a bit pity for me and accepted less than I was willing to pay.
  • Right after 1.10 was out, I spent a lot of resources on a Zod+Vex rune, to make a BotD CB. I applied the cube recipe on my only eth CB, learning the tough was that it adds a random number of sockets... two in my case.

I guess if we join all "stupidest D2 thing you've done" threads, half of the contibutors would be infracted for multi-posting, including me :whistling:

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Transferred and got temp banned and lost some good items. But who hasn't?

And can't seem to find my Ist rune to make my CoH. Guess I lost it while transferring too or duped? But, :weep::weep::scratchhead::confused::hammerhead:

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Gave my bro an EDC to socket for me and he accidentally sold it to larzuk..ouch lol.
He got me a replacement tho, very good guy.

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Inserted the runes of infinity in a wrong weap...
Town Tele, Anni vs other scam.
Sold a 2/20/20 for an Um rune.. BAH!

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Made a spirit in a polearm with my friend. It doesn't work.
Actually we wanted insight, but somehow we came out with the idea of runes for spirit.

Stupid not stupid, I have cleaned the whole CS alone, it took me forever (it was classic, no battle orders etc). Some guy came, and I partied him at diablo. Diablo dropped a ring - SOJ. Guess who captured the ring...

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

Just happened today, I was transferring in my passworded game, then a stranger came in and stole my pul and dol, lucky I didn't drop the better items, but it still pissed me off. I have no idea how he knew the password and game name as I have no one on my friendlist. I remembered a few weeks ago a guy accidentally came into my passworded game, apparently my tranferring game name is the same as his :/ probably the same guy... his "luck".

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

The abbreviation of my handle is actually quite common, so I've found I've had to go to at least 3 or 4 (e.g. alias3 instead of just alias1/1). Obviously I don't do the single numbers anymore, that's just asking for trouble. Even alias3/alias3 is super risky. I mean, at least scramble the letters lol.

Re: The most stupid thing you have done in d2

dropping my items on the floor to transfer it, then going to get a drink and watch some tv while waiting for the game to perm, coming back to realise that the game i created had no password.

sure enough, all items on floor gone.
