The greatest swordsman returns...

Hey everyone,

Nice to still see some familiar faces around here. I've been lurking for a while after a brief period away.

I never gave up the game we all love though, and as a result my namesake, MadMardigan the fanatic zealot has leveled to 91(!) doing hell pit runs. Unfortunately, my luck (aside from some nice rune drops) is still as terrible as ever, so I decided to give it up and continue the game. So, I sped through the rest of Act 1 and killed hell Andy for the first time. Now, before I go on, I'd like to run Andy a bit, because she's actually paying off better than the pit was.

Now, my question is, how is the Andariel drop bug triggered? I've heard about it, know what it does, but I can't find anything about making it happen. I tried the board's search function, so I'm either blind, or horribly unlucky.

I was also wondering what to do with the rest of my skill points. I've maxed all the obvious ones (fana, sac, zeal, holy shield), and my choices seem to point to either vengeance or its synergies. What's the most effective? Or is it something I've failed to notice?

And lastly, what would be a good, fairly inexpensive sword for endgame? I'm using a crescent moon phase blade at the moment, but what are my other options, ignoring super high-end items please.

Wow, I guess my return has me feeling fairly long winded, so until next time, may all of your drops be green and gold.

welcome back MM! nice avatar you got there

the andy bug is triggered when you kill her for the first time, completing the quest you have to continue into act 2. then the bug always works

Thanks corax, never could go wrong with met-hats :D

I always thought the bug was more involved than that, ah well, live and learn.

OT: You aren't into Warhammer 40k, are you? Something about that name...

I've played Warhammer40k but I dont recognize Corax from it...

Anyways welcome back, I don't know you but :howdy:

And yes that avatar of yours is amazing

Level 91 zealot?

Gah. My fanatic zealot has 100 million exp to go for level 91.

For future skill points, after you have maxxed out fanatism, holy shield, sacrifice and zeal, you can spend points on the following;

- Holy shock. Makes a good anti physical immune skill. Load a phase blade, azurewrath or some other fast weapon with lots of elemental damage along with a tiamats shield on the weapon swap to come on with this aura. Even with one point, it can work well.

- Redemption. One point redemption is handy to clean up dead bodies to stop them being raised or exploded against you. also handy for quick heals.

- Defiance. Synergy for holy shield.

- Conversion. Can help with crowd control, which has never been a problem for a zealot, but it is fun to use.

Bull(R): Corax is the primarch of the Raven Guard space marine legion. I don't remember where I found the avatar, just some Mega Man fansite I'm sure.

Asmodeous: Yeah, 91, and he's not even close to being a Pat yet. Thanks for the suggestions!

Anyone else?

Welcome back to the SPF, MadMardigan. I don't recognize the name, but I just came back from a long hiatus myself. January, not much else to do, the holidays are over... time for D2 and SPF for all. ;)

I have to disagree with that. If using the suggested items, it'd be better to stick with fanaticism, PI be danged. The little bit of extra damage from an unsynergized, unmaxed Holy Shock isn't as valuable as keeping the increased attack speed of Fanaticism. I found that just with Lightsaber, HoZ, Zeal, and Fanaticism, I could easily dispatch PI's and stay safer by being able to leech more off of any non-PI beasties who wandered within reach of my Zeal.

I would put one point in the four synergies, and then just whatever left into Vengeance.

I never heard about the Andariel bug, but I heard about a "first kill" bug

It is probably better to make a Crescent moon in Cryptic sword, it has much higher damage:

Zeal breakpoints while lvl20 Fana: IAS/FPA
Phase Blade: 0%/5, 11%/4
Cryptic Sword: 0%/5, 40%/4

Crescent moon has already 20% IAS, so you need only 20%IAS on your other gear to get to the same speed zeal while doing much more damage. This could be easily solved by equipping some gloves with 20IAS - Laying of Hands or crafted blood gloves.

For other skill points I would suggest Vengeance for dealing with PI. If you have nice mana leach or high mana, investing points in vengeance is better than in its synergies. Vengeance mana cost gets higher when investing more points.
Or you can have some high elemental damage weapon on switch (Gimmershred/Tiamat's Rebuke) and just zeal PI, then invest into Defiance as someone said.

I never saw the point in warhammer myself. seems a waste of money, and you have to paint them yourself!

You see, that is the point. Its not that you couldn't see it, more like you completely ignored it!

pwned!

im not going to post a pic. the digital camera makes them look to fuzzy to see.
one is Kharn the betrayer with his axe arm removed and the power claw from Commissair Yarrick stuck on, with a few extra cables and stuff. looks very gnarly.

the other is the leader of my raven guard 'force' hes got a metal jetpack from the blood angel chaplain, a standard body and dual lightning claws off a terminator. very cool.
