The Exposure Tournament

Re: The Exposure Tournament

When you last heard from Smaragd the Necromancer, he had just gotten hold of his Savage Halberd of Burning and was dominating with this weapon, along with Poison Explosions on corpses that fell. The rest of Act II was basically a lot more of that, but with major exceptions for some bosses.

The ranged attackers in the Palace caused me to start my Attract experiments. I plan to try it out a lot, to really learn as much as I can about how it works in all kinds of situations, and how to best use it to avoid getting hit. It works nicely on this type of tight archer pack. It means I can use my long range weapon and still be further away from the other archers than the Attracted monster is.

The duration of level 1 Attract is 12 seconds. I will want at least that duration in Hell - say 15 seconds. That means I need a level of Attract that provides its effect for 60 seconds before the 75% Hell penalty kicks in. That´s Attract level 15. Ouch...

I also want a good level Bone Prison, so both Prison itself and my Bone Armor will be strong. Then I want a reasonably high-level Dim Vision to shut down e.g. Gloams (with only Attract use, lightning will fly madly in many directions, which is probably just as dangerous as not cursing them at all!) An effective level 12 in Hell is user friendly. Then there´s CE, which I want a good level of, so I can take down Poison immunes if I have some corpses.

Hmm, looks like I may have to sacrifice some Poison power to get a character that has a chance to tackle and survive Hell. Probably can´t let the poison skills hog up a full 60 points. Sigh...

Yay, Attract can sometimes fool bosses! Sometimes. Looks to me like you can´t really know what´s going to happen. Still, I feel like I´ve graduated from 'Attract for Dummies' and I am currently taking 'Attract 101'. Any experts out there who can write me a little essay on the topic of 'Mastering Attract'? :badteeth:

The Summoner scared the crap out of me with a Glacial Spike. Lost nearly half my life. Went to town to boost the resist with potions. Then I used my Knockback javelins on The Summoner so I could approach the stairs without him seeing me. I managed to kill all the monsters except for one Ghoul Lord. As it turned out, that was a good thing, because it was the perfect Attract target for this fight. With the wizard´s attention turned away from me, it was Amp + javelins and 'good riddance, freak' (oops, wrong character class).

Smaragd´s life is still low, so the Unholy Bolts from greater mummies hurt a lot, and I have a lot of respect for their melee strength (and melee poison). This was the best distance to fight them. Just poison breath and occasional Unholy Bolts to deal with.

This boss nearly drew me nuts. Very dangerous because of Smaragd´s crappy lightning resist. I bought a Spetum of Vileness from Fara and stabbed once with that. With the regeneration stopped, I could now kill this boss with Amp + javelins and lots of running.

Attract at full force here. Nice when they help me out by dishing out massive poison...

Another nasty Apparition boss. I got lucky here, as it got stuck in the doorway in a position where I could still hit it.

Ancient Kaa scared me, until I finally found a fighting postion where neither his sparks nor his melee attack could hit me.

I took Duriel on /players 1. Constant Decrep and a Combat Shrine made the fight much MUCH easier than expected. A Town Portal was prepared, but no town trip was needed during the fight. Not even close. Wow. The big damage (hey, for a level 28 character with no actual 'fighting skill' with halberds, anyway!) probably had something to do with it.

Interesting (and nice!) that I got a drop without any TP scrolls.

During Act III, it felt like Smaragd started to depend more and more on his Poison Explosion, and he started to miss with his halberd swings a lot more. I cubed a nice Savage Bill of Ease. The reduced requirement meant I could use it immediately, and it did a little better damage than the halberd.

This boss (Holy Shock) was very dangerous! It caused me to go back and put on my Coral Amulet, and also to use Poison Dagger to minimize the time I was fighting it. Quickly in, quickly out, and always with Decrep on the boss when I was trying to stab it.

Around this time, I found Goreshovel unique Broad Axe. It deals less damage per hit than my Bill, but the 30% IAS and 60% OW more than made up for it. When I miss more often, I may as well give me more chances to hit, and the bleeding was very very useful to get fresh corpses a while after I had been forced to run from a dangerous situation.

The first time that I really felt 'the power' of Poison Nova was in the Bazaar. It gets more effective if you do something that is the exact opposite to how I usually advance in this game - lure out a big pack and hit them all with Poison Nova. Smaragd herded this bug horde down a bit where an even bigger bug horde was hanging around. Two level 2 Poison Novas later, all bugs were dead. Cool!

Poison Nova seems to work differently than Frozen Orb: monsters can not take cover behind each other. If they are within range, they will get hit unless they take cover from some terrain. This feels like a really user friendly spell (well, once I have the mana for more than a few castings, that is...). You can pretty much escape, direct AI curses, drink potions and just be generally on the run and still find time to cast a Nova now and then.

Fighting + PE was still the big damage dealers, though. Smaragd made a stand in this doorway. No way I am going to let those Beasts hit me until I have given them all the poison treatment that I can (i.e. until the rogues blocking them from me have died).

Stairs trap in Forgotten Temple. Looks like I have learned to use Attract to buy time in quite dangerous stairs trap situations. I´m impressed myself. This Attract noob is catching on. Slowly.

I found two Resist Lightning Shrines in Travincal. Excellent resists for Mephisto fighting. I had planned to take him on /p3 but I forgot to change it before fighting Wyand. When you have advanced that far, it´s too late to change.

An extremely long and boring fight followed. My puny poison against his puny (vs. my resists) lightning and cold. With a little practice, I could dodge 80-90% of his big (i.e. non-CB) attacks. Tons of mana potions were bought and drunk, and I went back to Travincal SIX TIMES to refresh the shrine effect. Geez...

I think I have not ever spent so much time running in Act IV Normal as I did now. Most of the time, the master plan was to lure out a rather large horde back to old corpses, Lower Resist it and have it walk through Poison Explosions. Poison Nova (1-2 castings) was sometimes used against the young spawns, to start up a new corpse pile somewhere.

I was actually happy to see Souls on the Plains. Poison Nova pwns them hard.

I had found an interesting socketed weapon, and my next gaming session, I made this. I tried it out against an Amped Pit Lord. It died in five swings, and all swings hit! MUCH better than my axe! The -target defense sure helps me a lot at this stage. And if I hit once, the following hits will be easier to score. It´s a quite slow weapon, but not as slow as I had feared. Definitely good enough for now. The range is good, and if I swing at an incoming monster, I can often get the first hit in. The big damage ususally puts the monster into hit recovery, and I soon have the upper hand (and the bleeding has started).

Holy Freeze Hephasto was so dangerous that I led him and portal parked him here. Sometimes he wandered away a bit, out of Poison Nova range. I created a Bone Wall at the edge of the land to get him back. Worked every time.

For the Diablo fight (/p3), I put on my lightning resist jewelry, and
* gambled some 20% FRW boots (just for this fight)
* bought a Summoner´s wand. Got one reasonably cheap. Just 'of Piercing' and no staffmods.
* bought a Teleporting staff for the switch (in case he would Bone Prison me)

Fight was easy, and not too long. I know Diablo´s attack pattern well because I´ve fought him with javelins with all seven character classes. This was even easier, as Poison Nova does not need to be aimed.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Finished out act 1. The fight with andy was strait forward, bite with rabies/feral rage auto attacks till 4 seconds are up rinse and repeat drink a red or blue when neeeded. Her drop wasn't horrible for 106mf.

End of Act I stats.

Act II first like always is to shop a better pair of boots and gloves as bother are less than 23mf or have any resits on them. Next is to go ninja the cube. Didn't use atma extended storage yet either so will be nice to cube up the chippies into regulars except for the topaz it can stay as 3 flawed. Since didn't make put any points into dex equiping a partizan like the barb did will be impossible. Not sure if the hand axe or maul will be be a better choice in boss fights, as CB and OW could be nice but the strait up damage of the maul is far better.

Plague Circle

Required Level: 7
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 11
Fingerprint: 0x301f27b8

+6 to Maximum Stamina
9% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

+1 to Mana After Each Kill

With that as long as rabies will kill 10 mobs then its free so far is best ring I have the other is only 7 mf.

Nice work Jiansonz! I could never get the hang of Attract. The key with poison necros is to herd lots of monsters and then they'll go down in droves. You've already seen that in Kurast though. Such fun!

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Thanks to the ineffective potions while shifted has caused many Deeds in Act I. I've no clue why game continues to spawn dual boss packs either. Nothing I can do to get pass the first 2 Acts.

I want speed, but none of the builds are great at early to mid 20's. Almost ridiculous that melee builds are nerfed severely until late Nightmare. Then spellcasters are nerfed until mid of Normal. Frustrating to play HC single pass with no shield. I can live without the merc.

Don't mind my ramblings. Just venting over my latest deeds.

There has to be away for me to get AoE attacks early without spellcasters. I might be overlooking the obvious. Any way I'm tired of Act I and II. Act III will be a fresh sight if I can ever get there.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

On the run to the cube realize that with out leap this could be a suicide mission as wasn't killing anything just letting it all mass be behind me. Got the wp as it was close to the edge. Made it to the tomb and unlike normal I was going to clear out the tomb before getting the cube as there really isn't the same escape methods as the last toon. By negelting on dex not a point so far starting to notice it as the hit percentage is down to 82 on the mummies. 1 NDE so far happily feral rage induced auto attacking away life leaching the shocking bats when wolf timer runs out. Go to half in one hit hit purple and form back into wolf asap kill them debating setting a time on desk to make sure know when thats going to happen.

In the halls of the dead I found a unique short sword and a green quilted armor. Would have missed the sword but upon going through making sure got everything killed saw it all by its lonesome not near any other drops guessing it was a mob that made it further than the others that had been poisoned as I empolyed the bite and run tactic more than I thought I would.

Next was the power shopping trip using the halls of the dead wp. The gloves came quick and easy 25mf, the boots how ever took lot longer to get roughly an hour was getitng tired of the shopping so went with the first pair that had mf of 20 or higher and a resist 10 or higher. Got 20mf/12cr not optimal at all for ACT II would have much rather had the boots the barb had 24mf/17lr but the game was not having it.

With resits of 12/17/0/0 think playing it safe will be better than going for speed, as the LL ability of feral rage won't do me any good in the tombs against skelletons.

On the plate today is to kill Radamemt, Make the staff and clear one or two false tombs.

It´s interesting that we have such different experiences.

Taking away my merc crippled me at least 10 times more than taking away my shield. Hurt my MF more, too.

I haven´t followed all your characters. Have you tried a TS + Dragon Tail build yet?

I'll second that, I'll gladly trade a shield for a meat shield any day. Then again I play a lot of caster types, and rarely invest in dex, which usually nets me about a 10% chance to block anyways. Its the stats and skills on a shield I really miss, especially since its a slot I can usually devote to non mf gear, since you can't get much anyways on one.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

I would have thought a Barb with the use of Howl and Taunt would be your best bet. Crowd control > AoE. Howl prevents you being surrounded, and Taunt is very useful against archers (they run toward you instead of firing) and monsters that tend to run away.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

@Krazy_Solo: One way to get early AoE is to use Blade Sentinel. It can't compare to the damage output of Blade Fury later on, but it can hit more than one target at once (or one target more than once), and it's available at level 6. It is pretty powerful vs. crowds in act I & II normal. The way Eld runes work with it, the bonus damage (that doesn't have the 3/8 penalty) also gets multiplied, so if you invest in the skill, it will eat crowds of the undead alive (handy for the tombs). If you want a melee build later on, you can cast one right in front of you before fighting something, so it's taking hits from the sentinel and you at the same time.

Fireblast is another early AoE skill, and is quite powerful early on. You can get it at level 1, so no waiting at all. I don't know if either of these will fit with your playstyle, but either one could carry you through act I/II with an early AoE attack.

DTail has the advantage of both AoE and crowd control, and also its damage is based on your boots, so getting a high-damage weapon isn't a problem. It has the disadvantage of being slow (unless you use a fast weapon + BoS or lots of IAS, in which case it can be very fast), and of being a level 18 skill with a 10 mana cost.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Radament was easy after pulling the horrors away so he would rez them. Now have 1pt in dex and 3 in wolf and back to having a 95% chance to hit. This is starting to make me wonder is dex going to be more important than strength in the end figured most builds I saw for a rabies wolf had a shield and assumed that the dex was to maintain 75% block rate. But possibly it will be needed for AR time will tell for now will keep making sure to either save points or put at least 1 in dex every level up. Currently strenght is getting 3 as thats the only way to equip a great maul at 27 for him.

In the Stoney tomb a green light belt dropped. For time being testing it out as the belt/armor ends up almost doubling my defense and gives me at least 10 to resists, and 1 more mf at the cost of 1 belt rows Haven't had any NDE of late so seems logical to give this setup a shot.

In the maggot lair level 2 a pair of Heavy Boots dropped. Opted to keep current boots on instead. Not really missing the extra row of pots. Since not there not reliant on them and in the lair rabies is doing some good work since everything is grouped together. Definitly glad for the 10 lr as it can be scary enough as each little bolt hurts can't imaging doing this with 0. Decided that Rabies is the only way to safely kill the beetles as LL was to much of a roller coaster. Before proceeding to the lost city Opted to to mule off the stash as there were items I wanted to keep but not nesscarly use.

Decided would call it there for the day so tommarow is getting rest of staff and clearing the tombs.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Well I decided to re-enter shortly after I got deeds unexpectedly from not playing for a while, so I went back to my trusty beast of characters, Deadite: The Barbarian one man Horde.

Deadite knows weapons and loves to dual wield. Upon reaching level six, he pumped up double swing until leve 9 to have a zero mana cost. He proceeded to finally getting to level 20 and placing his point into Battle Cry to make his enemies cower around him.

He slaugher Andariel with his mighty Flail and Long Sword giving gashing blows to the big nasty lady.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

BlackDeath is continuing through NM well, still /p8. His main aim for now is to collect as much money as possible and gamble better equipment. Second imbue quest offered useless wand. I was trying to gamble some godly circlet, but in the end I just created 'Lore' helm which is great. It's great to play without gear restriction for a change.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Good luck with Elma.

Uta continuing at p5 cleared the Kurasts and then the council were slain and though dolls were met next in the sewer clearance there were none in any of the 3 levels of the Durance.

Carefully clearing level 3 bone prison was accidently cast on Wyand and Uta, remembering a fatality in the Certain Death tourny hereabouts, immediately legged it as Mephisto rushing forwards into the side room uttered his threatening curse.

Returning, the boss and Wyand were safely encased with bone and comfortably dealt with at p5 with cold steel cutlass being the only unique dropping.

Immediately spotting a new pair of 40 frw 38 cold resist boots in the Pandemonium shops the cheesy old sigons pair were tossed out. The act 3 temples were then cleared with 4 of the 6 being stairtrapped one with a nasty archer boss dangerously so even as her colleagues were temporarily blinded at the safest p1 setting. One extra strong magic resistant wendigo boss was safely parked in another.

Act 4 was straightforward with no souls on the plains and two dols were found in the clearance followed up by a rather unuseful pul from the forge. Diablo at p1 failed to break out of the bone prisons and gave up 3 uniques, Gull dagger, Krintiz and Tannr Gorerod.

Act 5 was an unremitting slog done with methodical attention to safety. Amulet gambling produced a flurry of +3's skillers to all and sundry shades of every classes except necromancy. The Frozen river actually saw Moonfall and Dark clan crusher drop. Frozenstein dropped irathras gauntlets to go with the set headgear found in act 4 and Anya's ever useful quest reward is well worthy of the screenshot. :(

It wasn't all doom and gloom as two GC's with lightning and cold resistance found on the way and FCL resistances were comfortably maxed.

The first white mage plate found was carefully cubed with 1 socket but a 35mf amulet was gambled. \o/

Tiring after the temple clearance, the players setting was finally dropped to p1 to finish of the act and the 3 warriors on the summit and the denizens of the Keep were steamrollered but equipping finally with ~375 mf Baal was finished off at p8. The drop was rubbish apart from a rubbish pair of magic wyrmhide boots which taken as an omen (I was getting delirious by now) were miraculously crafted into a rubbish pair of crafter boots. Cows at p1 produced another 8 stamina potions from the King and another dol.

Vanessa, level 44 Bowazon, Nihlathak's Temple, 127 points

Just finished clearing out Nihli's Temple. Total drudgery, as most of Act 5 has been thus far, due to the high percentage of animal-type monsters (I'm using an Edge bow). The level 15 Thorns aura has actually proved very useful. A number of nasties have taken it upon themselves to dig their own grave, which speeds things up a little. I did, however, manage to find one of 3 items on my reasonably obtainable wish-list - Cleglaw's Claws (the other two being Riphook and Razortail). 25% slow + knockback = one very happy Bowazon. I had to give up 33% MF and 200% GF from Chancies, but it was very definitely worth it. This goes with my earlier find of Vidala's Fetlock, which provides nice mobility (30% FRW and +150 Stamina).

Nihlathak himself was an absolute pain in the arse. Used a few purples when I got cornered by the Ice Boars that he continually raises. Took him down in the end though, with a few (well, quite a few) well-timed Guided Arrows.

I'm now just a source of mana leech, an Excpetional base and another Amn to make a better Edge away from a permanent switch to GA, which will be maxed next level. The next batch of points will be into either MS or Strafe for a crowd solution, probably the former.

edit: like a moron (and out of force of habit) I didn't get the Halls of Whatever WP *facepalm*

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Must be time for an update! . . I’ll try to keep it short . . .

Hester has made it to the Nightmare Rogue Encampment! . . . hmm, maybe that’s too short . . . here’s how it happened . . .

Act 3 continued much as Act 2 had before it. Hester performed a full clear at Players 7 using her trusty Leaf Staff that had been made at the start of Act 2. Fireball continued to wipe out everything (including, and mostly, Hester’s mana). Hester reached Level 30, and Frozen Orb at the Flayer Dungeon. I had been hoping that Frozen Orb would ease the mana problem, but it didn’t, and the damage from the Level 1 Frozen Orb wasn’t very good compared to the damage from the Level 19 Fireball (go figure), so Fireball remained the skill of choice throughout Act 3.

Hester really didn’t encounter any non-mana related problems in Act 3. Dolls could be trouble in NM, but in Normal their explosions really don’t hurt (much). The Council was surprisingly easy. I considered using the Moat Maneuver vs. Mephisto but decided considering Hester’s mana problems that wouldn’t be very smart. Instead, I opted to do the easy thing . . . walk up to Mephisto, static, static, static, then Fireball, Fireball, Fireball . . . pretty easy . . . though perhaps not too smart . . .

Mephisto dropped a pretty good mix of items (the crown turned out to be Iratha’s). Other set/uniques included: Berserker’s Double Axe (Arachnid Lair), Iratha’s Heavy Belt (Great Marsh), Sander’s Heavy Boots (Gambled! ), Isenhart’s Full Helm (Sewers Level 1), Griswold’s Broad Sword (Durance of Hate Level 2), and Vidala’s Amulet (Durance of Hate Level 2). Hester also encountered/created an immortal Tree Lurker (top that for a find :smug: ).

Here were Hester’s stats at the end of Act 3.

Act 4 (done at Players 7) brought more Leapers (annoying when immortal and hard to hit using Fireball and therefore very, very, mana intensive to defeat  ). So, Hester decided to test out her Level 3 Frozen Orb and discovered that it was nearly as effective as her Level 19 Fireball (in terms of damage). Add area of effect and chilling effect and we have a winner! So, Frozen Orb was used throughout the rest of Act 4 (and Normal).

Frozen Orb defeated everything with ease but was still very mana intensive. Hester continued to operate with two columns of mana potions in both her belt and inventory until I had an apostrophe (or is that an epiphany) anyways, why am I saving all those stat points!? Let’s invest in mana! . . and so for the second time in my D2 career, I did. In the short term it made life so much better . . . but was it smart? . . I’m still not sure . . . but all signs seem to point to yes.

Diablo was the only scary part of Act 4. Hester grabbed the Resist Fire Shrine she had been saving, walked up to Diablo, static, static, static, Frozen Orb, Frozen Orbl, Frozen- . . . ouch! ouch! ouch! . . and ran away from Diablo’s mighty hits and Firestorm with 40 life left  . Okay, new plan . . . respect Diablo. So Hester grabbed some more greater healing potions and returned to the battle exercising extreme caution. No problems  .

Diablo dropped some set/uniques that Hester had already found. Other set/unique drops included: Cathan’s Mask (River of Flame), and . . . actually, that’s it . . . The Forge drop was really good (some topaz or amethysts might have made it better but I guess I can’t complain). The best drop (or pillar pop as the case might be) came in the Plains of Despair and was a Sol Rune! A Sol Rune! So early!? It’s like the game wants me to make an Insight :scratchchin: . . . and who am I to argue with the game  .

Here were Hester’s stats at the end of Act 4.

Hester began Act 5 by defeating Shenk and creating Insight in a +3 Fireball Battle Staff (from Act 2). I considered using the Cube Recipe (Ral + Amn + Pamethyst) to socket the Battle Staff but decided that I’d rather use those ingredients for crafting and besides, I’d only have a 50% chance to get four sockets, so to Larzuk Hester went. The roll on the Insight was pretty good (and much better than expected) and yet Hester was still depleting her mana pool from time to time so I decided to invest in more mana (mostly I wanted the regeneration rate to get better . . . but flat out having more mana was nice too). Hester’s Energy was brought up to 100 (from 75) and that made all difference. Hester’s mana pool and regeneration rate were now good enough to cast Frozen Orb as much as she wanted without needing to worry about scrounging up those cursed blue pots that had suffocated Hester’s inventory the entire game.

Free from blue pots and mana concerns the rest of Act 5 was very easy (and pretty speedy). Frozen Orb continued to get every skill point and destroyed everything in its path (well, except Frozenstein). Nihlathak was easy as expected (his corpse explosion really doesn’t seem to do much in Normal). The Ancients were done at Players 1 (everything else was at Players 7) . . . that ‘battle’ lasted 30 seconds at most. Baal’s Minion’s all died without incident (including those often pesky plucked chickens). Baal didn’t bring his ‘A’ game and was static’ed and orbed to death in less than a minute.

Baal didn’t drop anything useful. Set/uniques found included: Sigon’s Plated Belt (Frigid Highlands), Sigon’s Gothic Plate and Angelic Sabre (from the same sparkly chest in Abaddon), Sigon’s Plated Belt (Crystalline Passage), Sigon’s Greaves (Frozen Tundra), Angelic Sabre (Nihlathak’s Temple), Cathan’s Ring (Halls of Pain), Milabrega’s War Scepter (The Ancients Way), and Cathan’s Battle Staff (Throne of Destruction). The highest rune drop was a Dol Rune (the best rune drop was an Amn Rune). Hester crafted one item, a caster belt, a pretty nice caster belt in my opinion (good thing I didn’t use the Pamethyst on trying to get sockets :D ).

Here were Hester’s stats at the end of Act 5.

Destroyer Hester then entered the Moo Moo Farm and was very nearly instantly dead (the portal spawned on the Cow King  ), but she managed to hit a purple at the right moment and teleport out of the mob . . . the rest was very easy. The Cow King dropped Death’s Sash (not bad but not something I’d consider using). No other set/uniqes or notable runes dropped.

Here were Hester’s stats entering NM.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

@Jiansonz. Awesome progress sir! I love hearing about how Smaragd is adapting to all the situations he is facing. Good stuff!

@Hans. Nice progress with Hester! I look forward to hearing about her quests in NM!

Sigh....

Diago has met his match, after finding himself cornered against the wall vs hundreds of skeletons :(.

It all happened in the Kaa's False Tomb. I enetered a pathway that led to my most hated of all monster types (from Diago's perspective), Unravallers and their Skeleton minions. Mostly due to the fact that Diago cannot leech off the Skeletons and the Unravallers are just annoying as hell! To my shock horror, the pathway led to a group of 8-10 Unravallers and a screen full, army of Skeletons. Your kidding right? Trust the D2 gods to dish up such a horrible situation!
If i had used my brain, this would have been the perfect time to take a short break, to recover and come back with a clear mind-frame and not have a "lets rush finish this" way of thought. I stupidly went with the latter and it costed me big time! I thought if i could use my ninja skills, i could dart inbetween the Skeletons and take down the Unravallers first before dealing with the Skeletons. I was wrong :(. I lost count, but i found myself completed surrounded, by at least 40ish Skeletons. I tried to cast a TP, but unfortunetly it ended up outside of the surround.....Geez.... thats helful! I tried picking off the edges, in attempt to nudge my way out of the surround, but as one Skeleton died, another filled his place.I was running out of options!!! Soon i found myself with an empty belt and Diago was still had at least 3 layers of Skeletons + Unravallers surronding him. No chance :(.

This experience has taught me that when i see an annoying situation, to immediately take a short break to clear my mind and to come back with a fresh, calm and assertive mind-frame. I had a long playing session and it obviously screwed with my mindset and it has resulted in yet another premature deeds!

PS. Tomorrow I am going on a 1 week Holiday, and I doubt have internet access. So i would like to wish all the current/future contestants good luck and i can assure you, my efforts in this tournament arn't done with yet! I have another build up my sleeve that i would like to try out. However, i guess i will have to wait until i return from my Holiday before i can begin.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Love the fact the tournament host doesn't know his own point score... :p

Seriously though, tough break mate. That's the problem with HC: you never know when you're going to get unlucky and hit an impossible situation like that one. Hence why I tend to play SC. But my stubborn streak still causes me to venture to the dark side occasionally.

Baal is history. Have upgraded my weapon again, with a 'Zephyr' Cedar Bow on switch for more efficient dispatching of animal-type monsters. Still waiting for an Amn rune and a base so I can upgrade my 'Edge' main weapon. Had an NDE in the Icy Cellar after getting cornered by a Frozen Abyss boss pack right near the entrance. Those things suck without a tank, as they possess a turn of speed when you try to run away from them. Next up is the cow level.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

@Morathi: Rest in peace Diago.

BlackDeath did reasonable piece of work. He finished act 2 NM without any bigger problem (just that he met first monsters who were more tough vs. magic attacks, he had to skip couple of packs as on /p8 it didn't look promising). Duriel was in the end very easy (the only huge problem could be wrong position of Bone prison ;))

Act 3 was noticeably more demanding. First heart-beating while was in Swampy Pit 2. It wasn't traditional stairs trap, but something close to that. Right behind first corner there appeared one doll, but with visible might aura - not nice welcome present. Well I must admit that Bone walls & Bone prison makes the game much easier for necromancer, but the problem is precise aiming. Ten times it can save life and then one misclick and all is lost. But enough of this, BlackDeath managed to place bone walls well, so this pack of dolls was eliminated. It was relief - but that didn't last for long. Another 2 doll-packs were waiting close. Few minions managed to escape from bone prison, so I noticed the boss is cold enchanted (not good with red cold resist). The other one was also CE. In the end BlackDeath managed this situation well, but I didn't enjoy this place anymore.

And as BlackDeath found out, not always Bone Walls are good idea. There are some monsters who are really angry then and it's much better to find better trick, for example moat trick or house trick - Stormtree or this bad guy.

For Council I lowered to /p3, I have some bad experience with NM Council so I didn't want to risk. So that was alright and Mephisto, with use of moat trick, was no problem as well.

Act 4 NM I enjoyed quite a bit. It was really overcrowded at few places, but it wasn't dangerous (and big monsters are much less bothering than something small like Flayers). Even Diablo went down quite well, this time BlackDeath used whole central CS. It was big relief that Diablo didn't use his prison attack, that's always like nightmare. It's interesting that sometimes one is lucky and other time Diablo imprisons your char several times during one battle. With 75 light & fire resists Diablo's attacks didn't hurt - Pic 1 & Pic 2.

Re: The Exposure Tournament

Hi recently made a toon for this tournament but will update progress when im a little further. One question that I have is about getting the quick early mf? Im not too sure on what level/act is best for shoping gambling boots gloves and how people manage 35 mf amulets so fast etc. Any information would be great :)
