The Aura Man

As I thought about a third Last Wish build a Paladin came to mind. While I like Paladins I’ve already done four Zealots and I don’t want to just do another basic Zealot just to use Last Wish. I’ve also done an Avenger, a PDR Bear, and a Ranger, but never done an Auradin. Auradin, Hmm, that got me thinking about just how many auras I could get going at one time. The answer I came up with was nine.

Might from Last Wish
Redemption from Phoenix or Defiance from Exile
Holy Fire from Dragon Armor
Holy Shock from Dream Helm
Concentration, Conviction or Fanaticism as main Aura
Holy Freeze from Act 2 Merc
Conviction from Merc’s Infinity, Meditation from Insight or Concentration from Pride
Cleansing from Merc wearing Cure Helm
Thorns from Merc wearing Bramble Armor

On Switch
Sanctuary from Lawbringer and Defiance from Exile

The light show alone must be dazzling and thus is born DazednConfused!

So, how to narrow things down. I’ve used Conviction and Fanaticism as the main auras therefore Dazed will use Concentration.

I don’t want to use my only Cham for Pride and I don’t really see a need for Mana from Insight thus the Merc will carry Infinity for Conviction.

I don’t see this as a good gear list for a Hammerdin or a FoHdin since there is no FCR. Charge doesn’t sound like a main skill that I’d enjoy and I found Vengeance a little boring. That basically means Zeal unless I want to go the Bear route again. So, another Zealot it is.

I do have some concerns with the Merc as he has no life leach. I suspect that the Cure Helm will end up being replaced by Vampire Gaze

For the shield it is Phoenix or Exile and both have positive points in their favor. Phoenix offers Redemption, 350+%Enhanced Damage, reduced monster Fire resistance and Fire Absorb. Exile offers +2 to Offensive Auras, Defiance aura, 15% Life Tap and Freeze Target. My Phoenix is in a Monarch Shield and my Exiles are in Pally shields with +40 to resistances. I suspect resistances are going to be an issue. If I really did this right, I’d make a second Phoenix in a Paladin Shied. That way I’d get the extra damage and Redemption from Phoenix and 45 to all resistances. I’ve used Phoenix so often lately that I think I’ll go with Exile.

Gear wise this leaves me with Glove, Belt, Boots, Amulet and Rings. Mara’s for the resistances and Raven Frost for the cannot be frozen are just about givens. I think Carrion Wind for the other ring for the 55% poison resistance.

Laying of Hands and Gore Riders are the standards and add Nosferatu’s Coil for the 10% life leach. The IK set Gloves, Belt and Boots are another option.

Skills

At level 85 I will have 96 skill points to play with. Obviously, I will put 20 points in Concentration and points in Zeal, Sacrifice and Holy Shield. The question is what other skills do I want to put points into and how to distribute the points. At this point I’m considering maxing Zeal, Sacrifice and Holy Shield and putting additional points into Salvation.

Holy Freeze from Merc will not be shared with you, go with Defiance instead and use Phoenix yourself :) Or Prayer?

Have you tried Sacrifice? It hits hard, but afaik it can not crit which seems perfect with the gear you chose. Can be perfect if you cast life tap with LW.

Sanctuary is a must have aura to have against undeads (ignores their physical resistance)

@drmalawi Didn't think about sacrifice. D2R made a change in the damage it does to the Paladin. The note says Damage to self now reduces per level, from 8% to 8%-1% so at high levels its only 1%. The only Issue that I now have with it is that it's one hit at a time per monster like Vengeance. so no points in Zeal and instead max Redemption for the 15% damage per level. This I need to consider carefully.

Also thanks for the note on Holy Freeze on the Merc. I like Defiance over Prayer, but maybe with Sacrifice Prayer would actually help.

Will be on a family vacation for the next days and this gives me something to think about when I can't actually play!
