The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

ok just did UT was alot easier that i thought, just went in there lured meph out switched to salvation and locked on meph, with smite. my res with his convition were 53 so i need about 20 more so i was thinking of putting an um in my HoZ,

the hardest part of the whole thing was getting IMed in the furnace of pain cuz that was instant death. and also the hell swarms in the dureil place are physical immune so no leach and so they killed me once after i had a huge horde behind me catch up and surround me. is there anyway to deal with physical immunes? also i dont have vigor so i was runnign around trying to find dureil and i ran out of stamina a couple times. is there an easy way to locate duriel? does maphack work with ubers?

thanks for the guide, i cant wait to make a zmiter, since getting keys isn't a problem anymore with my fully geared hammy =]

I'd spend your unused skill points to get Vigor, put those unassigned stat points into vitality and get a CtA or some life charms as soon as possible, because with 1k life some times you'll just get 1-hit KO'ed, not much you can do about it. Some source of elemental damage would help with physical immunes, or something like Atma's Scarab for its chance to cast Amplify Damage (or the unique Martel de Fer, the Gavel of Pain, it's the only item with Amplify Damage charges but it only has three). The witches will hurt less if you've got more DR, it's capped at 50% but since they Amplify you stacking it might help (Stormshield and/or Shaft come to mind).

ok so, i have a friedn who has a pally with a cta so running UT with him takes less than 3- 5 min he teles to the boss and makes tp and i come out and kill he bo's me and hes got concentration which increses my dmg.

i do plan on getting my own cta but dont have one yet. about the skills, i lvl myslef a little to help with missing when hitting the monsters and it has helped i am now lvl 87 and i have 7 unused skill points. if i try to get vigor i would need to use 3 points cuz of prerequisites. but i would still have 4 more points left what should i put the rest into, thoe only thing i can think of is defiance for increase defense. do i have any other options?

Another popular option if you don't need the extra defense is putting them into the single resistance auras, every 2 hard points in one of them will increase your maximum resistance to that element by 1% (it's a hidden passive bonus). Else you can invest them in Blessed Aim, it also has a passive AR bonus for hard points in it, which might help with your AR problems.

I've decided to build the smiter, but instead of Sanc as my shield I wanted to use Griswold's Honor. I can't decide if I should use 3 Pdiamons on it or 2 and a -15 req jewel. Thoughts?

Well, it depends on your resistances. If 2 pdiamonds are enough to see you at max resistances after Conviction with the rest of your gear then using a -req jewel will let you get a few extra points into vitality, which is always nice, but resistances should always be your top priority.

Im building both a hammerdin and a 1pt smiter. Given that both are level 90 and have end game gears with resist capped, both have enigma (teleport), CTA, Etc, which among the two would you recommend in doing the ff:

a) Farm Nihlathak to get his key
b) Farm Summoner to get his key
c) Farm Countess to get his key
d) Farm UberIzual
e) Farm UberDuriel
f) Farm Lilith
g) Fighting Diablo/Mephisto/Baal in UT

Thanks.

Well, I'd farm keys with the hammerdin and use the smiter against the ubers, although you can probably use your hammerdin against the mini ubers too if you want.

If you have a very good geared Hammerdin to run your PVM/etc. Would you still create a 1pt smiter or would you create a pure smiter/zealer instead for Uber Trist? Is there anything a 1pt smiter can do better than a Hammerdin + Pure Zealer/Smiter?

I don't think there's much of a difference between the 1pt smiter and the smiter/zealot, the pure smiter's damage will be a little higher but since both rely on CB to kill the ubers it's not that important to be honest. Still, you'd finish them up a little quicker with a pure smiter, so if you're going to use the char just for ubers and a hammerdin for everything else it would be better, if a bit less proficient at regular PvM play.

guys can you explain this to me"

"Here you can use the treachery prebuff trick if you can afford a lem. Put treachery armor one, and go get hit by a monster so Fade will trigger. It will give you for a few minutes resists and 15% damage reduction. From now on this procedure won’t be repeated, it works as an add-on to your resists no matter how rich you are."

So you mean i can only do this trick once per game? once in a lifetime? Also, how long will this buff stay with me? will it be gone if i die or leave/rejoin game?

It means it won't be repeated in the guide, you can do it everytime you want to. Fade is like any other skill (Holy Shield, for example), its duration will vary according to the level it's casted at (check the Assassin's skill info for details) and it'll be gone if you die or exit the game. To activate it you don't need to be hit by a monster, you can go look for one of those fires that damage you continuously and stand in it until it triggers, it'll be quicker.

a) As of now, my fanaticism is 29 (says +37% attack speed). If i am to use a Grief PB (+30ias), would this item alone be enough to reach the breakpoint?

b) Im using a HOZ and i'm nearly full on my resist (just need 2 more resist charms which I will soon get). Would it be better to socket HOZ with a cham (cannot be frozen) so I can change my Raven Frost ring to a Bul Kathos ring? (My other ring is a BK already). Or should i go with a ber instead?

a) If you mean the 6 frame Smite breakpoint, you'll reach it with any Grief PB while using Fana, so the answer is yes

b) There's not much of a difference between using a Raven and a BK, you can switch the Raven out but you might miss the absorb if Meph decides to Blizzard you... From those two options I'd go with a Ber instead I think, it'll help out more than 50 extra life and +1 skills in the long run.

Hey guys, I'm just curious
My char is currently level 84, and wearing the following gear:
  • Guillaume's Face
  • Grief Phase Blade
  • Fortitude
  • Sanctuary
  • Dracul's Grasp
  • Thundergod's Vigor
  • Gore Rider
  • Metalgrid
And has the following skills maxed:
  • Sacrifice
  • Zeal
  • Holy Shield
  • Fanaticism
but his zeal damage is only 764 - 891, is that what I should be expecting following this build? And also another that is rather annoying is that he has trouble hitting, has anyone else had these issues?

Thanks for the help.

For Grief, the damage bonus from the +damage modifier does not show up on your screen. You seem to have a decent-to-solid figure at the moment. Also, do realize that a LOT of your damage does come not only from the numerical damage you're doing, but also Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, Venom, and whatnot.

What does he have trouble hitting?
Chance to hit depends on a) your attack rating and b) enemy's defense rating.
The formula for it is this:
Chance to Hit = 2 * atlvl / (atlvl + dflvl) * AR / (AR + Defense) ; multiply by 100 to get CtH in %
Where atlvl= attacker level (you), and dflvl= defender's level.
Since Grief ignores defense rating, it should be a pretty easy to calculate. Generally though, I don't find that my Zealot has any trouble hitting while using Grief. The occasional miss here or there doesn't really bother me since he strikes 5 consecutive times in under one second.

He might have trouble hitting champions and bosses, since the ITD from Grief only works on regular monsters :scratchchin:
