The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

How does this build compare to giga's hammerdin guide.
Im just going through the entire game again with a friend and have no gear.
Hammerdin or smite for PVM and ubers?

for going through the game you'll be better off with a hammerdin I think. A smiter is really only a specialized build to take down the ubers.

1 point smiter can handle any part of the game. IM from Choas/WSK can cause some trouble, but there are ways around that, esp if you are playing with a friend. With no gear and a friend a zsmiter(1 point smiter) could lead to an easier play through.

Hammerdin still does better in overall PvM with less gear but the whole purpose of the 1-point smiter is to be uber capable, and he does that better than the Hammerdin.

Hey there, I just had to register and express my thanks for this guide and build. Just completed my first solo uber trist and it went without barely a hitch. In fact, when meph first went down after about 10 seconds or so I had a huge grin on my face. Diablo took a little longer with his hit points and Baal caused me some grief with his mana burn (went through a full belt of rejuvs) but overall I was amazed at how smoothly my first time in uber trist went.

To top it all off my torch is an 18/11 pally :)

Was on a bit of a budget with gear selection (only being playing online a month) but here's the gear I used :

guillaume’s (15ias jewel)
smoke (boneweave)
shaeled lightsabre
stormshield (ral)
gore riders
dracul’s grasp
thundergod's
highlord's
raven frost
dwarf star

I initially had reservations about attempting a uber with this gear having got laughed at a few times and cautioned that I would struggle but I got to say, not with this build :)

Unless I missed a post in the middle explaining the damage ranges for weapons and how the numbers are represented on the character sheet, mine seems quite low for the gear I have. I wasn't sure because of the +damage mods and things, if they didn't register properly compared to the actual damage it was doing.
I'm using:
Grief phase blade with +368 damage
Mara's
Guillarme's
Fortitude armor
Dracul's
Gorerider
Ravenfrost
Dwarfstar
Exile shield
Thundergod's

I do have an anni charm, but no torch or skill charms as yet. But my smite damage on my character sheet is listed 671-1443, nowhere near a few thousand. Or is there something I am missing in order to get up into the 4-5k smite range?

Hello again all you lovely people of the paladin forum!

Got myself an organ set, & had a pretty crap time against lilith but easily overcame the other 2 jokers. Maxed all the usual skills, was wondering where to go next. OP says 1pt in blessed aim, I was wondering why? I cant see it as a synergy to any of my skills, so why more than 1pt here? Salvation will prob get a point, were would the rest be good to go? Defiance? Is a couple in the resist auras a good idea, or is +1 to max resist a bit pointless? Advice needed really!

Secondly, I got all the usual gear, got a free socket in my guilliames, I have a few nice +dmg jewels, lots of IAS jewels, could scrounge an um- hmmm what to do.... Not sure how my resists are, but +107 from sanc, 27 maras, 29 forti, charms & an IK belt & carrion. Should I just try the ubers & see how they go? Seems like the best idea I think!

Lastly, I have a +fire dmg, + cold dmg, + light dmg & + poison dmg charms. Do I need them? I always thought it was a good idea to have a source of elemental dmg, but is there really any point?

Thanks!

Actually, one last thing: I crafted a nice pair of blood gloves, 20% IAS, 6% LL, 9% CB + minor adds. I havent tried out dracs yet, but I havent needed to yet. Is the life tap CtC gonna be essential in UT?

Points in Blessed Aim give a passive bonus to AR, I don't think it's displayed in the skill description but it was added in 1.10, that's why the OP would suggest adding extra points in there. If you're happy with your AR and don't think you need any more I'd probably go with points in the resist aura of your choice, I'd prefer that to some extra defense, but both are good ideas. You should look at those last skill points as a bonus, spending them in one skill or another won't make or break your build, so just choose the one you think will be more useful :)

For the ubers you should have some stacked resistances, since Meph's Conviction will subtract 125 res on top of the Hell penalty, so you'll be needing about 270 from your gear. Depending on your charms you might be fine or you might be a little lacking, if you can't manage to up all your resistances the most important are lightning and fire for UT, you can basically ignore poison (so you can consider an Ort or a Ral in that Guillaume's if you're lacking in lightning or fire resistance too).

Having a source of poison damage is always nice since it stops monster's life regeneration, and a source of cold damage slows them down a bit, but fire and lightning don't do much for you. I'd probably replace all four charms for +resistance charms before going into UT anyways, better safe than sorry! Those gloves would be sweet coupled with an Exile or for regular PvM, but for UT you do need the Life Tap since you'll be smiting most of the time, good luck!

Thx for all the help guys! Just did ubers for the first time, managed to get meph on his own & with his aura on I had about 50 fire resist, -17 cold resist (oops!) 80 lightning (good!) & that other one. Took him down easier than I thought I would, did get one shot KO-ed by him one time but recovered & finished him off, diablo & baal were easy. Came out with a 14/17 necro. Bleurgh. Forgot to put my CtA on so only had base life, 1187. Was only me in the game so were easier than if it was an 8player game.

Two things:
I was under the impression smite stunned enemies? The whole time I was smiting they were still attacking me, are they only stunned for a tiny amount of time? It wasnt making much difference to them being stunned it seemed.
Lilith was much harder than any of them all, her poison still does me in a lot & she seems much harder than she should be. Forgot to CtA again tho, I guess she will be easier with 80% more life & an antidote pot from the start. Is she always this hard?!

Forgot to pre-buff treachery at all too. Oops!

Btw am at lvl 80, respectable I think! ;) Could prob have done it 2 or 3 levels ago too I reckon! :D

Well done :) Smite does stun enemies, but act bosses can't be stunned, same as superuniques/bosses/champions, it's just regular monsters and minions that are affected by stun (not just from Smite, from every skill). If I'm not mistaken the effects of antidotes (and thawing potions and the like) stack if you drink several, so don't be shy and buy a few of them before taking Lilith! She hits hard, perhaps some extra damage reduction (remembering to pre-buff Fade with treachery, for example :p) would help, but the first time is usually the hardest so good job!

help me with my char, i tried going into the matrons den and furnace of pain and i died alot and i quit. in matrons den, the flying winged witches that shoot red balls killed me cuz i didnt leach enough while zealing. what i tried to do was zeal till life tap was cast then smite. usually, once life tap was cast i could leach enough to stay alive but even then i died a couple times while smiting with life tap on. the times i died is when there were a huge amound of winged creatures shooting red balls as me so i was getting hit with a lot of balls and not enough leach. in the furnace of pain it went pretty well, i killed most of the ppl with charge/zeal. i only died when they IMed me.

I havent tried Trist yet cuz i havent gotten any organs. is this build supposed to be able to get organs with ease too? or should i make another char for organ farming.

so i think i need to change something. i pretty much followed the guide exatcly. this is what i have:

lvl 83

stats naked

str 66
dex 112
vit 236
energy 15

skills naked

sacrifice 20
zeal 20
holy shield 20
fanat 20
smite 1
defiance 1
salvation 1
blessed aim 1
all pre reqs 1

stats geared
str 136
dex 136
vit 294
energy 20

skills geared
sacrifice 28
zeal 28
holy shield 28
fanat 26
smite 9
defiance 7
salvation 7
blessed aim 7
all pre reqs 7

life/mana geared
life 1106
mana 185
i dont have a cta yet planning on getting one but gonna try to do a couple UT runs without it first.

gear
Helm guillams face
ammy maras 25 res
armor coh 742 def
wep grief pb + 386 dmg
sheild hoz 186 ed
gloves dracs 105 ed 8ll
rings raven frost +manald
boots gore
belt dungos
charms
1 13 res all gc
2 10 res light sc
1 11 res light sc

LCS
zeal no fanat dmg 599-691
zeal w/ fanat 746 - 857
are these values low? shouldnt the be much higher with max sacrifice and max zeal expecially with fanat??

normal attack rating 1116 avg chance to hit hell claw viper act 5 crystalline passage 38%
zeal attack rating no fanat 3616 avg chance to hit hell claw viper act 5 crystalline passage 66%
zeal attack rating w/ fanat 5090 avg chance to hit hell claw viper act 5 crystalline passage 73%

smite dmg no holy shield no fanat 74-103
smite dmg no holy shield w/ fanat 169-238
smite dmg w/ holy shield no fanat 404-445
smite dmg w/ holy shield w/ fanat 922-1015
are these values low cuz its lying?

defense no holy shield 1904 avg chance hell claw viper act 5 crystalline passage will hit you 66%
chance to block 59%

defense w/ holy shield 10376 avg chance hell claw viper act 5 crystalline passage will hit you 26%
chance to block 75%

stat points remaining 77
skill points remaining 3

resists
res all 153
lightning 184
cold absorb 20

salvation lvl 7
+91% res
dunno how much total res i will have with aura on.

so whats wrong with it why cant i stay alive? do i need more chance of life tap to cast? what i was thinking is i need more dex cuz im not hitting stuff everytime i swing with zeal, so no hit=no leach= dead. so i could use the 77 stat points remaining on dex. but the guide says enough dex for max block and i already have that with holyshield...

what should i do with the skill points?

also i was thinking the problem might be i am too low a lvl so if i lvl a bit till ike 90 or so i should be able to hit stuff easier so i dont have to spend more on dex and it can all go into vit.

or is this all just ok? should be able to do trist if i could get an organ set?

thanks
great guide

Mmmm i did matrons with a character like this (and worst weapon) and i did it... In your gear im not sure of the use of manald, i prefer to rely only in life tap

The witches are very annoying, you cant rush them (well you can run a little bit but with care), you need to separate the witches and kill small packs. I apply life tap charges from a wand (for me its a safer way).

does life tap give mana steal too? i was looking for a resists ring and plannig on making a trachery for fade so i get even more res and the dr will be nice too, but as of now should i be able to uber if i manage to get the organs? do i need more dex? should i use the unused points in vit? is thre anything else i need to change?

sorry I thought that manald was making life lich instead of mana leech. Anyway, you dont need mana leech, sometimes drink a mana pot and it's ok. I have a Dwarf as second ring (for fire absorb).

Treachery its perfect (i use it too) but with max resist you will only need it with mephisto (conviction aura), but de DR its always nice.

Unused go to vita

I only used the dex for the max block, and it was ok.

what shoudl i do with unused skills? should i just lvl a bit and see if i need the dex and put in blessed aim otherwise in defiance?

I have just done it at lvl80 including the organ farming, exact same stats as you. I would swap the manald for a carrion (extra LL & massive poison resist) which is what I have, & maybe swap the CoH for a forti, which is again what I have. I forgot to use my CtA or pre-buff treachery, so its not essential. I also used a sanctuary with +107 resists, & dont forget to drink lots of antidote potions before taking on the matron!
