The 1pt smiter guide to Uber Tristram v 1.0.

I have a quick question. Trying to make a 1 pt smiter uber runner with stuff I have laying around or other stuff I can get on the cheap - would you recommend I use a Stormlash (with either Shael or 15%IAS jewel) or a 35%IAS Grief 'zerker? I can't trade the zerker for a PB because my barb is axe specialized. The main problem I see with the zerker is that I would need an extra 20% IAS to hit max smite speed (with around lvl 20ish Fanat), which is terribly inconvenient (unless I got Fanat up to 27+, which I don't see happening with my gear). So, I would have to socket something out (probably Guillaumes) with a 15%IAS jewel AND put Draculs in my belt slot instead of Dungo or whatnot. Highlord's is pretty much out of the question, since I plan to use my Metalgrid for the resists. With Stormlash, the smite damage would be substantially lower, but I could socket something better in Guillaumes and use a better belt. I'm leaning toward the Stormlash. What do you think?

Also, is Griswald's shield pretty cheap nowadays? I remember it used to be very very rare.

About griswold shield, even on Europe SCL that has somewhat high prices,it still goes 4 times cheaper than the lowest hoz.

You pretty much know what is going on. I would prefer the zerk axe, and use nosferatu belt (I think you mean that one by saying dracul) and 15% ias jewel for max smite (and zeal at this point) speed. I would try to make up for the lost resists by using charms. The only problem is that berserker axes have low durability and you might need to repair it in the middle of the tristram run.

Stormlash will work nicely, no question about that, but I would go with grief zerk. I would get 15% ias from jewel in guil face and 10% from nosferatu belt, and I would make up for the lost resists by using charms. The only issue is that berserker axes have low durability and you might need to repair it during the tristram run. Griswold shield on Europe SCL that has somewhat higher prices than US realms costs 4 times less than the lowest Hoz.

Hi;

I made the one point smiter and got him to level 79. I tagged along at under ubers with a friend and I was able to survive and then we went to Trist and I was doing alright by staying back.

He's a pure Fanat smiter and told me that I somewhat screwed up by making a 1pt smiter. He told me that I don't need zeal and that I should dump the sanc (+112 all res) for an eth vortex exile.

I realize the opinions are somewhat bias so I'm not going to ask if I should get rid of him or not, what I will ask however is this; if I keep my 1pt smiter when do I use zeal and when do I switch to smite? I'm currently using a Grief PB, a AP Fort, Gores, a Zakarum Sanc with 112 res, Tal belt, and some crappy rings/ammy/helm/gloves. (In the process of getting the suggested).

Do I just bash things with Zeal until I can get to the bosses? And whats the advantage of switching over to smite if you have a weapon that ignore's target defense?

Sorry if these are either 1) stupid questions, or 2) have been answered but honestly I wasn't going to read through all 10 pages.

The point of a 1 point smiter is so that your zealot can actually be played OUTSIDE of trist. As for the exile, it depends on your resist and the rest of the gear, really. It also depend on whether you are rich enough to afford one. If you use a 1 point smiter, zeal everything in the game, and smite only the bosses. The thing is, ITD doesn't work on bosses, and they have block. If there's anything in your gear to switch, it's a pair of dracs and ravenfrost. Anyways, Ubers are such pushovers that you don't need the optimal gear (or anything even remotely optimal) to do it.

a friend of mine killed the ubers with 1 point in smite, and 1 in fanat, and something like 16-17 in holy shield.

he used his hammerdin and put a point in fanat.

Your friend didn't need one point in fanaticism. He could use his concentration aura and a 4xshael phase blade to hit max smite speed. Any hammerdin with dracul's,gore rider, guil face and a 4xshael phase can kill the three. It has been discussed many times already and it is a further proof that zeal/smite hybrids are pointless and that pure smiters belong to pvp. A 1pt smite zealot and a 1pt smite hammerdin have superior crowd control over a smite and his boss killing abilities as well.

As anime said, you need zeal mainly outside tristram. But of course I have been in many 8 player tristram runs that the torch ended up in the middle of a huge pit lord pack. Smiters there are not of much use, while your grief zealot could wipe them out in seconds. After 123 uber runs, I consider the 1pt smiter zealot more complete in tristram than a pure fanatic smiter.

As for your shield, you have the perfect shield for tristram. Exile would offer a bit quicker life tap triggering but I wouldn't sacrifice all those resists for any hoz or exile.

I personally find exile > all shields, you can get resists from exile (45), CoH (65), umed guill (15) or umed kiras (85as max) = max res, complete with a couple of sc with res and you will have stacked once meph uses convition.

I have a question regarding an alternate gear set up.

I have a friend who is building an uber zealot, however he chose to trade for a stone crusher so I assume he's going to need some serious ias.

Would the idea of using treachery for the 45 ias and fades 60 res all with a Kiras for added resists along with the stone crusher for 40 cb and goblin toes for 25 cb or gores for 15 (this would give him at least 50 cb) be viable?

If so, how much additional ias would he need assuming maxed fantacism?

Thanks Kindry

let me put this to you. to hit 4fpa zeal with a legendary mallet. with slvl20 fanatisicm, you will need an additional 120 ias to hit it, when smiting, you will need 109 ias to hit last BP.

this might be obtainable.

45from treachery, 15ias jewel in the kiras, 20 (shael) in stonecrusher, 20 from gloves (although you sacrifice the dracs, then you need lifetapwand) 10 from nosf and 20 from highlords =130, meaning you can sacrifice the nosf for a Verdungos (dr). which means you will smite at max speed, but not zeal.

Or you can do the griswold. Shael in the mallet, 3x15 ias in gris armor,2x15 in the corona, highlord's amulet and you hit already max smite speed (115% ias). Throw a nosferatu belt and you will zeal zeal at max as well. This way you can keep dracul's on...With gore rider your crushing blow will be 55% which is more than enough, you have your life tap and open wounds against uber regeneration of life. Corona gives 5 all res and a handy cold absorb, and the shield by itself with 3xpdiamonds gives 102 all res. Use a raven for the cannot be frozen and the % cold absorb and use as second ring one with high ligtning and fire resists ,since you have loads of cold absorb. Make the rest of resists with charms, or use the treachery prebuff trick or both. Stone crusher has a little bit of +damage, and gris shield is elite (vortex) so you won't have problems leeching with life tap.
