Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

triple post hey? come on kegs at least comment on something so i don't feel so spammy.

Got halfway through the diablo fight then realised i had forgotten my wirts leg. so TP'd out and went and got one. lucked out and got a 2 socketer which i dual tal'd. i seem to have forgotten a screenie though in my excitment to beat him with a leg.

drifting like a boss through drifter cavern. there is about 20 odd harpies an yetis just off screen edge. block and howl made it pretty simple.

finished normal, including mugging the cow king which i never do. Using a ripsaw i found in the caves somewhere. along with my new shiny baal made goblin toes he's cruising still. going to run baal on p1 till lvl 50.

Defendor, lvl 48, 4/12 complete

Actually that's a quad post ><

Welcome! And nice progress on the barb. I think a barb is one of the better suited classes all around for this tournament, good choice :)

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

After yet another extended hiatus from the game, I ventured onto the SP forums only to come across a very interesting sounding tournament thread. After reading through the rules, I must say this was a fantastic idea and very well thought out. Well done QD .

If still permitted, I would like to enter a character. Her name will be Amictus; an Assassin, seeing as they need a better showing in this tourney. I'm not entirely certain of the build yet, other than that it will involve Blade Fury, some form of MA, and am emphasis on SD skills. Like corax, even if new entrants aren't being accepted, I'm going to give this a go regardless, as it sounds insanely fun and I need a break from my third attempt at a full clear single-pass HC character .

I will play Amictus in HC, but will not restrict her to single-pass. I will however restrict myself to only 1 target (at my discretion) that can be re-run per level of difficulty (while still in that Act), and of course will follow all other rules as laid out by QD. Well...off we go!

Corax, Of course you are accepted. Welcome! Well done so far and good luck with your Barb.

By the way, I usually agree with kestegs on many things - but I think a Barb is a hard character to play in this tournament. One needs an extremely good weapon to get a Barb through Hell Difficulty under the best of circumstances - and this tournament is
1. Untwinked and,
2. Not the best of circumstances

I look forward to an entertaining mudwrestling match with Kestegs on this topic.

poopie-pants
Very glad you found us, welcome back. The tournament is not closed to new entrants, and heck, if we accept Corax then we'll accept anyone. So Welcome! And thanks for the kind words about this tournament.

Obviously, an Assassin should work well for survival labors (one hopes) but do they have the raw fire power to make it without going 100% traps? I can't wait to find out!

Good luck all.

if only i had a sig:yes:

running baal has granted me sigons gloves/boot combo. yay.
But yes i agree with you my survival is going to come down to finding a good weapon. Ripsaw is alright atm and i think i have the runes to upgrade it (i love these new rune drop rates). being a conc barb i think i'm going to end up pretty gear dependant which will be my big stumbling block. lots of nm meph/baal running i'm thinking. 2/3 more baal runs to lvl 50. then onto NM! will stick a post it on my pc of all the nm labours so i don't nearly forget them

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

With the return of Quickdeath, I'll say sign me up Scotty.

Don't know what build I'd like to do, will have to re-re-re-read over the rules again as I've read over them 15 times probably for some reason or another. ?

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

welcome to the new entrants

i started to play danny some more, still p8, and made it to the sewers without much problems. the spider and the great marsh took forever, but no close calls. i like the flayer jungle. had some decent drops, but nothing that would be an upgrade for the current equip.
leveled up and reached 87.

however in the sewers icehawk riftwing had bad mods and trapped me. had to S&E for the first time. lost a bunch of stuff, that was on the ground, craft material mostly. reentered and killed him. in upper kurast i got trapped again by a spider magus boss pack in one of the temples, so S&E'd again.

not sure if i will continue to play danny in this tourney.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

Alright, decided on a class.

Assassin HC

Melee with DS. I'll see how it goes to see what I'll be adding to it. Planning on Phoenix Strike and Tiger Strike to start. May not roll with the tigger. Never used the Finishing Moves last time I played an Asn, so I may use some this time around.

Not going to play Single Pass.

If there's anything else I need to add let me know.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

@QD: Although my time was cut short by my disrespect of the game, I feel confident that my Zerker would have continued with little problem later on. Admittedly, his power was pretty dependant on the upp'd Bonesnap, but that isn't a difficult find for untwinked, especially with non-single pass. Then again, corax is looking at a shield+1H weapon, which would end up making damage output a concern later on.

All the new entrants are giving me thoughts of re-entering, possibly reviving Heracles to try him again with my learned lessons. Probably not enough yet, I'm trying to Guardian my Meteorb currently in A3 H. Best of luck all, it is a fun tourney!

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

i found a steeldriver. it makes me hit the 1k dmg mark. but the loss of all ML makes in unworkable atm.

did craft myself 2 rhyme shields, one tower and one bone. starting to gather up my gear for ancient kaa. who i don't think i've ever fought. did the passage labour. was a really short run. bout 10 secs total.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

Hell, that's an end game weapon right there. As for mana leech, couldn't you socket the steeldriver and throw a PSkull in there? The damage should be more than enough for recomping the Conc mana cost. If you find something with mana leech later, you can just remove the skull and put something better in (Shael). Not like Berserker, where I was chugging mana pots all the time, but that wasn't really a problem either, 'specially with pot drops and %damage to mana.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

Welcome Coju.

In retrospect, I must say that I am surprised that more people don't enter with Sorcs. Sorcs have some attributes that should enable them to do very well in this Tournament.

Krupa, I am very familiar with that feeling -when a character is in the middle of hell Difficulty and seems to be on the brink of being overmatched . Personally, I have quite a few characters that I have never gotten past A3 Hell Difficulty. I hope you persevere, but I will understand if you don't.

And Jimmy, I do hope you return with another character. Your posts have been fun to read.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

The thing that stands over sorcs is the Hell Ancients at /players 8. I did some calculations and experiments and it doesn't look good for counting on Lower Resist charges helping with breaking immunities except for Madawc's lightning immunity if he has no mods which further increase the lightning resistance. The LR charges could be helpful for speeding up the kills when attacking with an element they aren't immune to, but here is the basic setup:

Their resists:

Talic WW: 110 Fire, 50 Cold, 50 L, 50 P
Madawc DT: 50 Fire, 70 Cold, 100 L, 50 P
Korlic LA: 70 Fire, 150 Cold, 50 L, 50 P

Lower Resist charges:

level 3 gives -41 all, -8% if immune,
level 2 -37 all, -7% if immune
level 1 -31 all, -6% if immune

I did some Hell Ancients runs in SC with a sorc just to see how often Lower Resist helped and how often they got mods which made them double immune. I haven't organized the results yet, but it was quite common for them to pick up additional immunities, often two or three of them becoming dual-immune.

So that hangs very heavily over a sorc's plans! Particularly with the "deathmatch" character of the Ancients battle.

The other 11 tasks are indeed generally well-suited for sorcs.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

that's alot of effort there mr locust. will be interesting to see the results. I still think a meteorb with a decently geared merc will eat the ancients like it'd eat cake.

Defendor, lvl 57, canyon of the magi

NM passage run was easy, run andy for awhile and found an IK helm, which i dual topaz'd. found alot of normal Uniques nothing to useful. got some gear though to take on mr Kaa. had to S&E twice to get fire towers to destroy.

I read your analysis with great interest. When I was putting together the structure and rules for this tournament, I kept reviewing in my mind how popular builds might stack up against the 12 challenges - I was striving for balance, realizing that I would never attain perfect balance.

And the Sorceress was the one who continuously gave me most concerns. I fretted over her Teleport skill nerfing the Survival Labors - which is why I selectively limited it's use at spots. And the standard Sorcs' two-element fast-killing attacks that are independent of weapons would reduce the challenge of other Labors (Wirt's Revenge, Ancient Kaa). The Kill Duriel task might be tough, I imagined - but no, every Sorc has at least one point in Static Field. But, in my mind, I kept coming back to the Hell Ancients death-match and asking myself would I really want to play a fragile, low-HP Sorc against 3 Hell Ancients on /p8? Even a tri-elemental Sorc would face huge problems - finite reserves of Mana and inability to keep a Merc alive. So, my analysis was not as detailed and quantitative as yours, but I finally concluded that the Hell Ancients Labor would be especially challenging for Sorcs - and would have to suffice as my "balancing element" against Sorcs -because Sorcs would not have a problem with the other Labors.

There is one other labor that offers little danger but that I thought might be hard for Sorcs -the Fire Towers on Hell Difficulty. The Towers are 99% resistant to fire and 85% resistant to cold damage, and many Sorc builds are built around fire/cold damage. Obviously the Merc can chip away at the the Fire Towers, though the Towers also have 45% Damage Reduction (and 1000% PoisREs and 50% LightRes -they really are stout little things.) But it would not be a breeze, I hoped.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

just hit lvl 61 in lower kurast. found an AR, dex grand charm which is handy. Found a few S&U items but nothing ot upgrade my gear. finally found the sigon's shield i was hoping for but my rhyme is now better so meh.

maxed Conc and BO with 8 hard points in shout. saving stat and skill points now for when i find my super uber weapon of death.. see all that confidence.

Ancient Kaa wasn't to bad, found him in the 3rd tomb i tried, the dual bosspack combining extra fast stone skin ghost with a fanat ghost was scary. lots of weaving between pillars to seperate them. Kaa wasn't too bad, i just stood behind the merc swinging away and fed him pots as the LE hurt him.

edit: i completely forgot duriel. which is exactly how his fight was. forgettable

Thanks, and now I started tabulating some results of runs. It's made me concerned about facing them, of course, as it is quite often that at least two of them turn out to be double immunes, and the third resist could still be pretty high on those double immunes. LI is a big issue simply because of Static speeding things up so much. A very strong merc could be quite important, but I won't get a chance to practice to see how the chances of the merc surviving are until it's too late.

Re: The 12 Labors Tournament

i've never found the caster classes to have any problems against the ancients. they are easy enough to avoid, especially with teleport. it's just a matter of patience.

Defendor is now lvl 69 and going to finish running pindle to lvl 70. he only had a 3 socket polearm for Deseis. so it said SES. the Stab Emergency Service.

Diablo was slow but no danger at all. Minor rare armour upgrade and a new rare ring for some more resists. Got a heart carver from pindle and it's actually a pretty deadly little beastie.
