Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

Re: Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

Where do you have your DII installed?
If it's somewhere in C:\Program Files\ the easiest fix is to reinstall to another dir outside \Program Files\ (For instance C:\Games\D II)
If the problem is with the virtual store thingy, that is.

I'm running Vista on my laptop as well and I haven't had this problem. My install is in D:\Games\Diablo II\
And while you're at it. Move your ATMA/GoMule away from Program Files as well if they're there.

I've previously been advocating disabling the UAC, but I actually wouldn't do that except as a last option.

Edit. If you really must disable UAC, the easiest solution is to use tweakUAC. (Google it if you want it)

Re: Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

DII is installed in D: \Diablo II\.

I made a new shortcut and got rid of my old one.

It looks like it is working now. Freeze time is only about 3 seconds.

I'll have to keep trying though as it could be a fluke, like it was before :\.

Re: Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

Bloody hell!

Just tried taking another screenshot and its back to 30 second freeze time.

I have no idea what the hell is making it change and freeze for so dam long!! :banghead:.

Re: Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

Run virus checking and some spybot removal program.

Dont think that is the problem.

This has been occuring ever since i got my new laptop. Thats why i thought this problem was associated with Windows Vista.

I doubt a brand new computer would have a virus on it straight away, causing D2 to freeze for long periods of time when i print screen :\.

Re: Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

No idea if this will help at all but,...

Run Diablo in windowed mode
Have a Task Manager window open, set on the Process tab, and sorted by CPU useage
Take a SS in Diablo and see which process is spiking the processor

May help root out the culprit.

Re: Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

Along with Bob's idea above to check CPU usage.

How much RAM do you have in the system? It also could be between the processes running and the screenshot that its running out of RAM to do everything in a timely manner.

Thats a really cool idea!

I tried it out and well in windows mode....i have not 1 second of lag!

I switched back to normal mode and tried another screenshot and its back to 2-3 second delay hahaha.

Hopefully it stays like this!

RAM shouldn't be the problem.

Like i said this problem has been occuring every since i got my laptop.

But for your information, it has 4GB SDRAM, more than enough to take a few screenshots i would imagine :smug:.

Re: Taking screenshots is making the game freeze?

Yeah, plenty of RAM to keep that from being the problem. The windowed/normal thing could point to a driver thing, can you try the Glide wrapper or something like that to change from Direct3D? Or see if there is an updated driver for the graphics card?
