SWAT team

I once made an Assassin that beat ancients normal at level 14 or so.

With CoS and BoS you can easily run past most stuff, and DTalon is simply great if you have a Crushflange, Gnasher or Rixots. At least in normal a sorc will be a lot slower because she will constantly be in mana problems, or spends more time leveling. I didn't find AR to be much of a problem.

I haven't thought too much about optimizing a socketrunner, but I do like Hsarus complete set which works well with Angelic's complete set for the early FRW and STR bonus, which makes other gear easier and doesn't commit any serious stat investments. BTW, the untwinked speed run of the fire assassin is impressive, but one thing that isn't immediately clear in the writeup is that though it was untwinked, they knew what the map would be by playing that seed in advance. FRW is important for getting through normal, so good FRW gear or a FRW skill like BoS or Vigor matters a fair amount.

Funny but fire sorc would be the last of my choices for a sorc build. With both frozen nova and charged bolt you don't have to aim, just spam as you are running. Both will kill a lot of little monsters so with a few Tirs you never run out of mana. Charged bolt in normal really "mows the lawn" of monsters. And you can pick up the occasional jewel of envy etc.

Unless you would want to run higher than players1 (why?) you don't need big killing power against one tough boss you need to mow down lots of riff raff that are in your way like in tombs/passages etc. Killing lots of little dudes will also reap the mana needed to teleport. Even the splash damage from Fire blast can't compare for area coverage like charged bolt or frost nova and when running the difference goes even more in favour of those two skills over the low fire skills.

A well twinked charged bolt or frost nova sorc is godly in normal! Why would you want to stop running and have to AIM at things??

I'm with wakiki on this one. A Holy Fire Ranger equipped with the unique Long Bow is a OHKO to almost everyone on /p1, plus it's completely mana independent. Add in a couple skills to Charge to speed up running and you're golden.

Unfortunately, that "unique longbow" (ravenclaw) has a level requirement of 15. If you're leveling enough to make use of that, why not go all the way and rush a sorceress to 18?

Until you get teleport or what?

Have you ever tried the 1.09 Raven Claw? It's very fast until lvl ~25, good for blizzardsorc runs...

No, only the 1.11 one, which should still be enough to OHKO anything in the hands of a fully twinked fire ranger. But the whole idea is to get somewhere fast, which doesn't necessarily involve killing things fast. If you get to level 15 at an early point (and planning for ravenclaw is useless if you don't, IMO), you'll probably get to 18 at an early point as well. And if you get to 18 at an early point, nothing will be faster than a sorceress.

The way I see it, the only real question is: is there anything faster than leveling to 18 early on?

I think you should have a higher level than 18 to beat normal diablo, well, maybe not. I agree with that sorc is the char to go, but I believe Raven claw until lvl 24 blizzrad is the way to go...

But when thinking more about it... I use to play at /players 8.. Maybe a 1.09 Raven Claw will rock /players 1 diablo...

I'm still leaning towards charged bolt. Usable right level 1. Orbs and staff with +3 CBolts can be equipped pretty early. By level 5 you can flood waves of CB forward and then run forward through the dead monsters. It has plenty of take down power so you could run players3 or 5 at the start to quickly get the char level up. My last low-lvl charged boltress was a blast, especially through late normal.

Re: cold or lightning sorcs. Two things:

(1) the tc3 with +5 to fire bolt equippable at level 2 IIRC.

(2) +3 fireball leaf staff

Show me an equivalent to either that applies to the cold or lightning trees. My level (x+5) firebolt at low levels and level (x+6?) fireball beats your level (x) charged bolts and ice blasts. Fire is superior due to the godly low level equipment available (without even counting + to fire skills equipment like magefist if you get that high). Also, if you level enough to get blizzard you're doing something wrong.

Cool good point.
But also re the equipment you can get good cold and lightning stuff. I looked in my low lvl twinking stash and found;

Eagle Orb (grey)
(no req lvl)
+3 charged bolt
+2 ice bolt
+2 life

At item lvl 2 so they do drop. And allows a shield. But no it won't touch a Bane Ash for damage.
