I look up the meaning of 'Standard' on Wikipedia:

Classically, standard referred to a flag or banner; especially, a national or other ensign carried into battle; thus "standard bearer" indicates the one who bears, or carries, the standard.

The modern primary meaning evolved through symbolism: "a quality or measure which is established by authority, custom, or general consent".

In technical use, a standard is a concrete example of an item or a specification against which all others may be measured.

Knowing how much Blizzard looks into stuff like this, I believe that the Standard of Heroes is nothing more then a "a flag or banner" and a "concrete example of an item or a specification against which all others may be measured." If it truely wasn't, it would not have this name.

Just because standard means "flag" which we can clearly see it is one doesnt mean it doesnt do anything. I mean there is no proof in your statement.

You clearly don't have a lot of experience playing diablo. Blizzard names everything for a reason.

Standard of Heroes has a level requirement because Blizzard loves nothing more than to spawn wild speculation.

They get a cheap thrill from making people guess.

1) it adds +2 to skills -- the person was trying to get me to trade for it so my guess is obviously a scam

2) prevents losing experience in uber trist

3) helps make uber trist a bit easier
