Socketing a Hone Sundan Ghost Spear

Thanks to the trade forums here I was able to get my hands on a nice 192% ED Ethereal Hone Sundan. I promptly upgraded it, and handed it to my summoner necro's Act2 might merc. Now the problem is that there are still 3 open sockets in that thing, and I would like to get them filled with the best that I can. The problem gets even more complicated when I think about helm and armor options.

Here is the chart I got from the weapon speed calculator for Act2 merc with a Ghost Spear

0 % 8 3.1
9 % 7.5 3.3
20 % 7 3.5
37 % 6.5 3.8
65 % 6 4.1
105 % 5.5 4.5
200 % 5 5

Now I'm guessing that since it shows the attack per second going up, that the half-frame breakpoints will have an actual effect. :scratch: I'm hoping someone can confirm this for me.

Now a simple choice appears to be Shael-Shael-Amn to hit the 37 breakpoint and get life leach on the weapon. This would also allow me to replace his crown of thieves with a Guillame's Face, and use Duress armor without worrying about life leach. 95% Crushing Blow sounds great.

Now that I've written it out shael-shael-amn seems like the good obvious choice, but before I do it does anyone have other opinions, especially regarding using Andy's Visage or IAS jewels to hit further breakpoints. 65 breakpoint won't be too hard to hit, but would require a lot of planning in equipment. Anyways thanks for reading and your opinions to come :thumbsup:
 
I was in this same position awhile ago ... I ended up socketing a shael/shael/amn after reading countless threads about this topic. I'm playing untwinked though so I don't have the luxury to tweak my headgear and armor options as much.

My reasoning was that if you are going Hone Sundan then the major reason to stick with it is for the CB which coupled with a Guillame's Face gives you a ton of it. Going for a faster attack rate with some leech will allow you to set the CB off more often and that's really what counts.

You'll find all the info you need if you put "hone sundan" and "socket" in the forum search engine. Just select "thread titles" instead of "whole thread" and you'll get lots of threads. This has been asked many times. Hope this helps.

if you're rich, put in Cham, Amn, Amn

if you're not rich put in Shael, Amn, Shael

if you're dirt freaking poor put in Eth, Eth, Nef

my reasoning is that summoners don't really rely on their merc to do everything for them, they have summons of course
 
Thanks for the replies, I went with 2xShael-Amn. The think works great, but I was disappointed when I tried out Guillame's on my merc and just put the Crown of Thieves back on him. He just seems to not die with that crown on. I'm also trying out my assassin's Duress armor on him and it seems pretty nice, if I ever find the right 3 soc armor I think I'll be making him one, unless I find a nice ethereal Black Hades maybe.
 
If you are spending silly runes on it I would have thought ohm, Lo or Ber would be better than Cham but each to their own and personally cant afford any of those anyway.

WickedFrog25 - Try getting a hold of an eth 4 socket armour and making your merc Stone, huge defence and my merc seems to love it. Eth Balrog skins are good and will get 4 sockets from larzuk.

Griswold armor has 3 socket too and comes with +20 str giving a bit more dmg. I placed 3x15 IAS jewls on it, 1x15 IAS jewel on orphan helm and 1x15IAS jewel on hone sundan + 2xAMN

As a more expensive option:

Andariel's with 30fr/15ias jewel (35 ias, 2 skills, ll, str)
Eth upped HS (25+ed/15ias jewel , 25+ed/15ias jewel , 40ed jewel )
Fortitude

The HS will not reach the damage of a high end eth Bonehew socketed with 2x40ed jewels, but will come close enough and will have an added 45% cb.

Edit: I am not even sure how I managed to resurrect this one.
