Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

ARGH... sorry about that, pwangsta and ohomemgrande. Let's solve it this way: ohomemgrande, please forward Farr to pwangsta.

That should take care of it.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Offee received and working.
Quick question,
the rare boots were not here imbue?

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

No they were what i was thinking of using for anya quest, but found gloves towards end of act and decided on those, so i just left them in the stash. You can sell them, or whatever, i should of mentioned it when i sent her.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Jiansonz -

Yeah, it will be viable throughout unless some really unlikely drop happens. Even upgraded to thunder maul the STR req will only be around 126. Something like 80-90 at exceptional?
It really is a great hardcore 'big stick' with huge -req, inbuilt big IAS and high damage. Pity the roll was sub-average, instead of 195%ed now it could pack up to 270%ed!

Still dominant, especially upgraded. I reckon Solo has a good shot at this

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

@Jiansonz:
I noticed that lovely weapon, and thought I would show you what a double upped one with a -req jewel can look like:

John_Henry's Steeldriver
Thunder Maul
Two Hand Damage: 123 - 673
Durability: 43 of 60
Required Level: 77
Required Strength: 108

Item Level: 58
Version: Expansion 1.10+
+40% Increased Attack Speed
274% Enhanced Damage
+150% Damage to Undead
Heal Stamina Plus 25%
Required Level +12
Requirements -65%
1 Sockets (1 used)

good luck

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Amidala has finished normal and been sent to Ohomemgrande.

A small update:
I must say, Amidala was a blast to play throughout Act 5. There was never a close call, the killing speed was phenomenal, and the whole thing went just about as smoothly as possible. Chopped through /p8 Ancients in a minute, maybe two, with no trips to town. Never used a rejuv the entire act. Just total domination the whole way through.
Equipment-wise, she's undergone a serious face-lift, as I imagine most characters have this act. She got through the early parts of the act behind a powered-up charged strike and a "Malice" Maiden Pike. Later, since the vast majority of her damage comes from CS anyway, I swapped to a normal war javelin (then a white maiden jav, and finally a white ceremonial jav which I cubed up from a low-quality ceremonial jav that dropped in the cow level) for a faster attack and better safety.
I crafted blood gloves for Amidala very early on (low 30s), but they turned out to require clvl 46, so they were only useful for the final parts of the act. Also crafted some blood boots and a safety ammy, although only the boots turned out to be useful.
I ended up personalizing a nice elemental damage circlet I'd gambled with Amidala way back in Act 2 that I had kept (an extra 24-150 combined fire/lightning damage plus 26 life and some life steal). I used the socket quest on Sigon's shield, sticking a P diamond in. I figure the high blocking and +1 skills should make the shield relevant through NM, at the very least, although the low resists might eventually force it to be replaced.

@Jiansonz - thanks for your suggestions for gambling targets. Although the weapon suggestion was not applicable due to the specifics of Amidala's skills choices, I had a lot of fun gambling jewelry. Alas, nothing helpful showed itself. But thanks anyways. :)

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

yes, about Solo:

I was really, really glad to see that Steeldriver. Especially since it's highly likely I'll find the materials to Upgrade it before I'm done with act 1. I haven't started him yet, but he should be pretty reasonable to play.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Biggs has made Destroyer, but I've got some work left before he'll be ready to send along... been holding off on his socketing and personalization in case some better options come along.

He'd give his left arm for a steeldriver right about now. He did find an endgame worthy rare from Baal... for another class. It'll take my stash slot for act V NM unless the right character comes along sooner, in which case i'll just pass it along with the character.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Ahsoka has been passed along to purplelocust to begin her journey in nightmare.

I have to say, I was not too thrilled about this character. Not that she is too weak or I think she'll die, it's just that the previous skill choices left me with a real dilemma for the third power skill. (Kind of a long update)

When I got Ahsoka, she had some runeword gear (Nadir helm, Stealth armor, Zephyr Stag Bow), and her act 2 mercenary was decked out similarly. One of the first item drops on the Foothills was an ethereal 2-socket flamberge, so after rescuing the barbs I switched to an Act 5 merc and equipped him with a Steel runeword in that. I later crafted him a blood helm for some life leech and deadly strike.

But what about her skills, you ask? When I received her, Ahsoka had 5 points in Freezing Arrow and 5 points in Valkyrie. She also had an extra point in Decoy, 5 points in Penetrate, and 11 in Critical Strike. I saw 2 logical options: choose the cold arrow synergy for a nice frost maiden that would then rely on her minions and a normal attack to deal with cold immunes, or go with mutlishot or strafe to take advantage of the already placed points into penetrate/critical strike. After leveling the Valk to 8 (she gets the lance then) and pumping Freezing arrow to a similar level, I decided to go with strafe. It really wasn't doing much damage with that 9-15 damage stag bow, and Ahsoka didn't see any item upgrades until I was getting ready to pass her.

She really needed a new weapon before nightmare, and by the end of the act I had a plain Razor Bow (from cow level), a rare Hunter Bow with the cruel suffix (234% ed) and a magic Hunter Bow with the evisceration suffix (+56 max damage or something insane). Both of the Hunter Bows were gambled. The problem I had was trying to decide how else I was going to upgrade her gear. She was still wearing normal belt and boots, and I had also gambled a nice 30 frw, 30 light res, 10 fhr and +mana pair of boots for personalization. She had a magic circlet gambled from earlier in the act with +5 min damage/+19 res all that I really wanted to socket. Lastly, I had +15 max and +12 max damage jewels. I thought about burning through a bunch of resources by socketing the Razor Bow in the cube, then turning it into a socketed magic item and re-rolling with chip gems until I got 2 sockets and a decent suffix roll, but that would require personalization, and she would still be using normal boots. I ended up socketing the circlet (everyone looks better in a circlet anyway), used the cube to socket the Razor Bow, and dumped my two damage jewels and a Shael rune into the bow. She fires super fast now, and has 2 customizable sockets in her helm that purplelocust will have to decide what to do with. I crafted her a safety belt from a demonhide sash that came out crap, but better than a plain plated belt.

Her resists are good, her merc and valk are reasonably strong, and with level 10 freezing arrow and a super fast strafe she should be fine for a while.

Looking forward to the next act, and maybe a new class! (I've had 2 barbs, 2 zons and a druid so far.) Good luck everybody.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Well, seeing as how Wolron guardianed an untwinked amazon with no weapons and only passive skills, I think you can manage quite nicely with that particular amazon  I like the choice you made.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Binks sent to Hoop.

I've spent a lot of time running Binks after killing Baal, and he is now a pretty tough sob. The running took him from level 45 to 57, as well as allowing me to equip a Lore helm, a pair of Manalds, a Caster belt, Caster Boots, 36% Chancies (personalised), +1 Druid skills rare club (socketed with a Tir), and a Rhyme shield (CBF FTW!). I replaced his resist charms with +life and +mana charms, since a Windy has little need of resists other than poison, and I maxed Cyclone Armour first (for Hurricane duration). Because of this his Tornado damage was quite lame when I took down Baal for the first time (~180), but is now quite nice for this stage of the game (~650).

After the effort I put into improving Binks, I really hope I get him back at some stage. I love Windys, and they are powerful, even with pretty poor gear. I'd be inclined to think Binks will be one of those making it to the end.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Good work from the 2 of you! Both characters sound fun, I look forward to either of them! Particularly happy how binks is coming, after having had him for act 2

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Binks recieved, and looking pretty good. Act 1 should be fairly safe.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

I sent Yaddle onward to cenyth but I won't say anything about her since she still hasn't got her last Power Skill decided yet. But she is quite strong and fun to play!

I got Palpatine in fine shape.
I have a Dol but not an Io yet and want Palpatine could really use eventually would be a White wand in a +3 Bone Spear base. So it may be a big big shopping trip in A2 norm! I did this once before in a Skunkbelly tourney (ElliotOffen in 2007!) and I remember it taking a long time to shop one. Hours of boredom, wow! But if I could do it for Eliot, I can do it for Palpatine!

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

OK, I have a working Amidala.

Farr has been forwarded to pwangsta.

Chewbacca has been sent off to Thomh

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Kenobi sent to scrcrw and Ahsoka received from JoeBruce.

Good luck to everyone in NM!

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Dooku has become a Destroyer after killing Baal and then took a run through the cows. Dooku now has been sent along to Soulmanz.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Farr received from Oho. I hate barbs with bad weapons (ok fine, I dislike barbs in general too :)). Here's to hoping Act 1 goes smooth-ish.:scared:

In a completely unrelated post :whistling:, Biggs has been sent on to Quickdeath.

I'll be on vacation this week, but I should have plenty of time next week for Organa to move through act I.

Re: Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge 2011

Mothma killed Nihlatak a lot, but now she`s sent to Kestegs to hopefully get some rest.

Chewbacca received from Ohomemgrande.
