RiverSue and her faithful mercenary Jemali were traveling through the spider jungle when a host of fetishs attacked along with a few gloams. The Battle was intense, but finally the Amazon and her merc prevailed. Once more the glow of "GREEN" caught RiverSue's eye. The aura came from a "pretty" splint mail armor lying on the ground. She picked it up and inspected it. In the lower edge of the armor was one word "BERSERKER". This hauberk had 32 less defense than the rare splint mail she was wearing. It had no resistances (her armor had lightning and cold resistance totaling 34 points. Nonetheless, she was driven to utilize it. She looked over at Jemali. He had a grin on his puss that stretched from ear to ear and he clutched his Isenhart breastplate in his strong hands indicating that he would not give it up! Ok, the new treasure was hers.

RiverSue continued on to Lower Kurast and is waiting until morning to do a thorough search of the area. She believes that more treasures await her there.

After a couple of years of playing WoW, I'm back at playing D2. And what better way to start than an SPF tourney. I first rolled a 3 for a barb, but mulliganed and got a 5 for a Necro. Thus ToxicMojo is born.

Noobarb has started off and is now level 12 at the Stony Field. Not a single S/U found yet, and the skill points have fallen out not so bad yet. A point in Ax mastery, and 3 in Mace mastery, 2 in Leap, 1 in Bash and 1 in Double Swing so it could be far worse with the overlapping masteries. All the rest are saved and we'll see which way things head.

Gibsu has passed through Act 2. His cold resistance is 78%, so Duriel was over in a snap. In retaliation he only dropped five rares; all were worthless, and three were ethereal!

Gibsu got three new set pieces to play with: Isenhart’s Lightbrand (which went on switch), and both Cathan’s Mesh and Cathan’s Seal. The partial set bonuses from Cathan’s Traps aren’t great, so he kept the ring and his Arctic Furs and passed the armor to his merc. I also found a third pair of Cleglaw’s Pincers!? Oh come on now! :tongue: (Nine set pieces found so far, but only one unique. Strange odds…)

My typical tournament item finding luck is continuing, so far... Not one S/U item found up through Tristram. But I do have a 3 chipped topaz ring mail now, so no doubt things will start dropping any moment. I'm counting on the Black Tower for my first drop.

Skillwise, it's been... interesting. My random skills have been truly random, giving me a point in just about every available skill so far... with two points, alas, in Sacrifice. I haven't used any of my "player's choice" skill points... I'd like to hold out as long as I can, since I'm still doing fine on players 8 with a combination of normal attack, Sacrifice, and level 1 Holy Fire.
 
SUWorshipper's been sitting at the OuterCloister, for awhile now, awaiting my attention.

Kind of interesting how I don't think we've had a single RIP, and in other tournies, like the Pass it On, we have so many fairly early on.
 
I'm trying to juggle too many characters at once, but I know I need to get on the ball in this tourney. I mean, Jiansonz got 10 items on already?! GG, man! :thumbsup:

So as a show of good faith to my commitment to the tourney, I quested from the outer cloister to Andy's lair and it couldn't have been easier. I was only running on p/4 since both my merc's and my bow are crap-tastic. A unique "lightning spitting demon" (can't remember enemy type's name) dropped an Arctic Binding in the Catacombs 2, giving me a whopping 2 items now equipped (Hsarus' Iron Fist on switch).

All of the following skills are randomly allocated; I've saved all my personal points thus far... two trees are essentially useless unless I find some unique javs.

I need a rules clarification. I've been assuming that, other than the skill points earned as quest rewards, we were requried to invest our skill points in the following sequence: Random, Random, choice, random, random, choice, etc. I knew we could save skills points, but I did not realize we could save the Skill choices selectively while rolling for the random skills.

Are we allowed to save the skill choices selectively? Or must we choose a skill as a prerequisite to rolling for the next two random skills?

You can save both points from levels 3,6,9,12... and the quests. You can use those points at any time you choose. The random rolls have to be taken immediately upon acquiring them, however.

I *think* that answers the question, but I don't know if it did... :)

Do we get our choice points on level 3, 6, 9, ... or on our 3rd, 6th, 9th, ... level up?

At levels 3, 6, 9, etc. Easier to do the math, and allows you to put points in your level 6/12/18/24/30 skills as soon as they open. Nifty, eh?

Well then, I guess I have been assigning the points slightly incorrectly. I randomly placed the first two leveling points (level 2 and 3), then used my skill point selection for level 4. I have continued this sequence ever since and I am now level 32.

Looking at the results, I guess this was a very slight disadvantage for me because I could have started my skill point selections one level earlier.

My next skill point is due at level 34 according to my method, but I will take it at level 33 instead and that will put me in sync with the rules. Do you agree, or is there some other solution...

Go ahead and start doing it at 33. It'll snap you back to the right grid, and then everything will be okay. :)

Alright, due to the little debacle involving my questionable strategy for randomising skill points, I decided to take the major mulligan and start off on a new slate.

So my awesome weapon of choice so far is limited to Crushflange and Serpent Lord... oh yeah, feel the burn. All I do now is wander around and watch the merc kill everything and I mean EVERYTHING because Crushflange is just so bad for /p8 act3.
Can you say 9-34 damage at level 29 (and bear form)??
or maybe 3-9 damage with hunger??
(in wolf form which I never use --> hunger --> 2-7 damage)

Because this thing is TEH BOMB.

But that's pretty much what happens at this stage of the game with a necromancer so that's okay. Sorry about my smallish weapon rant, it's actually been quite fun and I've been cruising along quite well. There were some NDE's in the later part of Act 1 (barracks->jail2) but past that it's been absolutely peachy.

I've just updated the table from the code Mama_ZanRondo (ECC) posted for my new druid because that's a pretty significant change. This will be my first and probably last table post by me.

RiverSue defeats Mephisto and Moves on

RiverSue (lvl 32) went toe-to-toe with Mephisto and killed him on P8. No merc loss, no trips back to town and no need to use potions except a couple to keep the merc alive. Amazing considering the lousy equipment and wasted skills. Everytime she finds a new "pretty", her resists/defense/etc. go down as she throws away a good item. At this point, she only has ugly items in her jewelry and helms. It is almost time to get that Act 3 merc, but I will hold off until I am forced to due to the acquisition of another two shields.

My selections were all in the Passive and Magic tree because the other two trees will be useless once I get three shields. That means that my random selections have been 5 in jav, 9 in bow and 7 in P&M. I guess I cannot complain.

Couldn´t stay away from my sassy assy...

A new bunch of levels, and a major boost to Phoenix Strike. It´s so powerful now that a Meteor and some afterflames is enough to kill all regular critters.

Once I had rescued the barbarians, I hired one. I tried to give him the IK helm.
"I can´t use that!". Oops, required level 47. D´OH!

Stupid Blizzard. Why make it possible to find items so long before you can use them?

OK, back to a Lightning Wolf again. Khaleel was his name, and he was very good at slaughtering imps. Before I hired the barb merc, I had sold the plain Circlet of Luck, so I didn´t have any MF headgear for Khaleel. I gave him a Circlet of the Magus instead, and this is why he was better than old Devak.

Halfway through the Arreat Plateu, we got cursed with a second Isenhart´s Case! This meant that Melica´s amount of MF suffered a major blow.

I had temporarily "wasted" two Topazes in the IK helm, but more of those piled up soon enough. When I found a third, Melica was level 39 and this means that shopping for socketed Great Helms at Larzuk´s can be profitable. Got an Artisan´s Great Helm of Energy (+10 ENE) on the first visit! It´s now stuffed with three topazes. With topazed gear, quantity is more important than quality if you are not very gem rich. This helm gives +48% MF, which is 2/3 of what a 3 PTopaz helm has, and that is for a measly 1/9 of the gem value of such a helm! Khaleel got Melica´s 38/29 Sapphire Circlet of Luck.

Gibsu has finished the rest of Act 3, with no major news. All of Kurast cleared on /p8 did not give up a single S/U. In the Durance a random monster dropped the Berzerker’s Headgear, so I finally had to give up my two topaz great helm.

Meph himself dropped five rares and a set mace. No wait – there is no set mace, so I got a 120 durability magic mace instead. That could have been Crushflange! I would have used Crushflange! :rant: [Is the 200% durability is there as a consolation prize, a programmer flag, or just to rub it in your face?]
