Set/Unique Item Worshippers Tournament II

Played my way into the Stony Field with ol' Don last night. He('s) level 10 now, and despite flagrant abuses at the hands of the random skill points (his level 7, 8, and 10 skill points went into Throwing Mastery, Howl, and Find Potion, respectively), he's doing just fine. Still no green or gold, but I did gamble a decent Crystral Sword to take made advantage of his massive 1 point in Sword Mastery. /players 3 never knew what hit it. He's saving his Level 9 point for marriage and/or Stun, whichever comes first, and other than that, nothing to report except that he wishes Cain would hurry and get his *** saved so he could stop lugging this Tome of Identify around. Fin.

Hey is it still too late to sign up for this tourney? :undecided:

If it's not then I'd really like to join...
In the event I can join, whipping out my trusty excel spreadsheet I randomed up a 5 which is a necromancer

If you'll have him, BoneMuncher the Necromancer will begin questing for Set/Unique items to worship :prop:

General contest convention uses N/NM/H. Who knows why. We could use O/I/H (nOrmal/nIghtmare/Hell), but that's just silly.

By the way, what is the preferred method to post? A short message like this or the table with all the character listings in it??

Short posts work -- the important information for each post should just be a short summary of where you are, any new S/U found, skill placement (if you want), etc. You can post the big giant table each Act or so. I'll personally do it each time Nyx hits a new act, but if there's another special milestone, you can do it more often.

The more the merrier! Welcome aboard, Skylar!

I'm glad to see a good response for this tournament. This really was my favorite tournament (I did love the alphabet tourney too) that I was in, and it's great to see such a strong response for it again. Plus, that's just that many more chances to beat Jiansonz (that brilliant, brilliant man) at his own game.

I'm updating again! Why? Because I've been playing all morning in lieu of going back to bed, and because I do what I want!

Don is now Level 16, with nary a set or unique item to show for me dumping two chipped topazes and a nifty jewel into a 3-socketed Ring Mail. The elusive little pricks. Random skill points continue to have their way with poor Don; his Level 11, 13, 14, and skill points went into Throwing Mastery (joy), Axe Mastery, and then another into Find Potion (that's 4, all random). Vunderbar. He used his Level 9 skill point, as promised, on Stun, then dumped the Level 12 point to up Bash, his main attacking skill and a synergy for Stun and Conc, which he'll prolly eventually end up relying on. Level 15 found him annoyed at Shout's short-*** duration, so into Shout the point went. He's ventured as far as in the Outer Cloister, and awaits eagerly his chance to, you know, find a set or unique item. Rock.

SUWorshipper has been born, and sits at the Cold Plains waypoint. Already made one skill point mistake(duh), using a point in the Cloak of Shadows prerequiste Psychic Hammer. Immediately wished I could do over, knowing I'll probably hit that number very soon, and don't need more than one in that skill. Live and learn.

RiverSue warmed up for her adventures in the desert by helping Atma take vengence on the demon Radament. Radament was no real challenge to RiverSue and her Desert Mercenary. In her gratitude, Atma has put in a good word for RiverSue with the locals. Their prices should be a little better now that they see that they can trust her to be of help.

Before leaving Lut Gholein, RiverSue spent an evening setting around a stove in the local gathering area in the market square. The conversation was informative, but it was not immediately obvious how much of it was true and how much was simply over exaggerated stories told by men who remembered more than had happened. One tale was particularly interesting though. It seems that one of the Paladins from Peroque had been searching through a cave in the northwest part of the desert when he came across a group of living dead. They were no match for his broad sword and he slew them handily. But that is not the interesting part. When he was going through the bodies looking for treasure, he came upon a Unique amulet, one he had never seen before. It glowed with a golden hue that cast a brilliant aura across the cave and gave visibility to things further away. It also had magical properties of resistance to fire and the ability to do more fire damage with his broadsword. Another adventurer spoke up and said that such magical items were occasionally found by the careful searcher, but it was very rare. RiverSue took note of these things and vowed to find many such items to help her in her quest to cleanse the world of the demonic evil that plagued them.

The next day she ventured into the desert wilderness. While searching through a place that she later discovered was called the Halls of the Dead, she found a fascinating box that Cain told her had magic powers if she could find the recipes needed. He helped her use it to improve her collection of gems and runes. Later that evening, she absolutely astounded Cain when she discovered the shaft portion of the Herodric Staff in a putrid maggot lair near the far Oasis.

The next morning she again left Lut Gholein in search of rest of the staff. As she entered an area known as the "Lost City", she came upon a group of undead, ghoul-like creatures. They were led by an Elder whose powers were potent indeed. He glowed a fantastic emerald green, and RiverSue imagined that it was his source of power that caused the glow. However, after killing he and his minions, she made a fantastic discovery. The glow was not from his power, it was from his armor. She then realized that she had found the first of the items that she would need to succeed in her adventure. It was a Breastplate with a name inscribed upon it. Isenhart! Certainly he must have been an amazing hero to have worn such equipment as this. Yet, on close inspection, it did not seem to have much going for it other than that green glow. It was not nearly as good a defense as her rare Splint Mail. It did not have any magical properties other than a small amount of magic damage reduction; however, the urge to utilize it was beyond her ability to withstand. Then out of the corner of her eye she spotted the mercenary. She looked again at the green glowing armor lying on the desert sand. The merc looked at her and then down at the armor. He got a sick look on his face. His splint mail armor was not nearly as fine as hers, but it was better than this! Nonetheless, after a stern lecture on who was in charge and who was the paid follower, the merc took off his mail and doned the breastplate.

"Don't worry," RiverSue told him, "there may be other items that Isenhart left behind, and if we find them, you can wear them too!" The merc only looked down and shook his head.

After finding the other part of the Horodric Staff and using that strange box to restore the staff, RiverSue is now ready to investigate the Lut Gholein Palace.

Nah, but if I rolled one, I'd have kept him:wink3:

By the way, found my first item, Arctic Furs, in the Stony Field from a normal monster. Not a bad one, or set, if I can find more of them.

CryBaby, the Barb, has made clvl 17 and is saving skill points so that they can be rolled with some slvl18 skills available.

CryBaby has just found a Clegaws Claw. "Not a bad shield with poison duration cut by 75%" he thought. "It will go on my weapon switch." But then a cloud came over CryBaby's face, as he realized his peril - for if another S/U shield were to be found before four more one-handed S/U weapons then he must .....gasp....use Bash, or something stupid like that, because Double Swing will no longer be an option.

Double-Swing no longer an option!....Use...Bash?

CryBaby felt warmth beneath his furs. Embarassment appeared slowly on his face as he realized that he had soiled his pants. Fortunately there appeared to be a Devilkin nearby that he could wipe with....

Yeah, I realized after posting that my mulligan was on a Druid. But I really wanted to have a Paladin. :)

Nyx has made a little progress, cleared the Marsh and killed the Countess. Boy, there are a lot of enemies out there. A random throw at level 16 put a point in Cobra Strike. This Martial Arts thing might work out after all.

Countess gave her a Tir, which will eventually go into a superior socketed Flail for Steel. Assuming I don't find another weapon.

RiverSue had been having trouble with her mercenary ever since forcing him to where that Breastplate of Isenhart. He does look good in it though. Unfortunately he doesn't wear his armor for looks. Well, after putting up with his sulking for some period of time, RiverSue was thinking about trading him in on a good pack mule when another unique item was found. It was a gold colored trident that was so light that it could be wielded with amazing ease and agility. Just holding it gave her more strength and dexterity. She looked over at Jemali and saw the hopeful look on his puss. Should she use it herself or give it to him? If she used it, she would have to give up her shield. That settled it. Between the need to appease Jemali and the need to keep the shield that she had become accustomed to, the answer was easy. Jemali got the Razortine unique trident.

I finally got Sassy out & about. She made it to the Outer Cloister (at clvl 16) before deciding to rest for a while. Even with her whopping 50% MF, she still hasn't found any colorful items other than the boring blue & yellow. With 2 rare amulets within the first 10 minutes of her adventures, I was sure I would have found something to worship by now.

Kyoko stared out at the absolute carnage around her. There were dead monsters, dark ones, ghouls, afflicted… too many to name. In the middle of the great hall, there was now only a scant fire, a fleeting reminder of the great demon Andariel before she perished and was engulfed by the flames that spawned her.

A horrible scratching sound broke her momentary shock to stare at a disheveled Necromancer sitting in the corner chewing on some other white object. Bonemuncher was his name and Kyoko had traveled close to Bonemuncher ever since the cold plains and until now, the final liberation of the monastery.

Kyoko stared in disgust as he chewed, no grinded away at the white object while gently stroking the buckler with his other hand. THAT Buckler. Still fixated on the weird necromancer she allowed her mind to zone out, to when they first saw the buckler. Or more correctly he saw the buckler. Then jumped on it. Literally. Somewhere in a dark cave. With carvers still attacking them.

‘Then again, he used to have that other thing…’ Kyoko thought as she pictured the shiny belt lying on the ground. Bonemuncher used to stroke his belt and buckler at the same time before she attacked him calling him a pervert. At least she bargained him down to only ‘praising’ his belt in private.

And somehow despite all his weird and crazy antics, like running into rooms full of monsters, blinding them and shouting at her ‘Go shoot many pointy!†he had become strong enough to stand up to Andariel, stare her right in the face and wave his scepter at her. Then shout “You’re a bad man!â€

A tiny part of Kyoko sighed in sadness; this event would probably be the end of their journey together. He would probably head off with Warriv’s caravan in search of more adventure while she had to help rebuild their monastery. Kyoko wondered if he'll be okay, just being by himself in the harsh deserts of the east...

Again the horrible scratching sound brought Kyoko’s attention back into the present. Bonemuncher had started to disgustingly eat with his mouth open. Keeping her irritation contained she walked up to him and looked at the other small white objects next to him. He once told her they were ‘muesli’ bars. She picked one up to look at.

‘What are these things? Where did they come from? How does Bonemuncher have so many?’ Kyoko thought.

It didn’t look very edible, but it felt more like the edible thing was inside the white thing. Kyoko pondered if anything Bonemuncher did was not totally insane.

“May I eat this?†Kyoko asked curiously.

Bonemuncher looked up at her and said in an uncharacteristically intelligent and confident tone “No.â€

Incensed Kyoko threw the object at Bonemuncher’s face as hard as she could before storming back into a waiting town portal.

Bonemuncher was lying on the ground; Kyoko had hit him squarely in the face. As he moved to pick up the muesli bar, the actual food toppled out of its plastic packaging.

“OH!†Bonemuncher exclaimed loudly as he ate the inside of the white item greedily.

----------------------------------------

The game was played on /players 8 and every area cleared so far. Bonemuncher reached level 20 (!) when Andariel died. Regarding set/unique Items, I’ve found Hsaru’s Iron Fist and Arctic Binding in ‘The Hole’ and ‘Tamoe Highland’ respectively.

With randomization, I just simulated a roll of a 1d3 and made each different value to select a specific skill tree. Then giving each skill equal chance to be selected, I rolled another die to see which skill I ended up with.
Oh, and my randomized skill setup if anyone is interested.
(All 3rd level skills and bonuses I have saved to be used when the random skills might give me a foundation to which I can use to make the best of what he has)

Summoning (0)

Yep zero points, I got totally ripped off.

Poison and Bone (9)

Bone Armor (4)
Corpse Explosion (1)

I may have misunderstood how you did it, but it looks like you did it slightly wrong. If you, say, have one skill tree with 3 skills available and another one with 5 skills available, then with your method, each individual skill in the tree that has 3 skills available will be more likely to get a point than each of the other five skills. All 8 skills should be equally likely.

Great progress for Melica. I am not inspired enough to tell you any great stories, so I´ll just give you the hard facts. The merc has been doing all of the killing, but the way the S/U items have dropped, pretty much any two S/U weapons now will force me to hire an Iron Wolf.
