Set/Unique Item Worshippers Tournament II

So, My paladin died trying to kill Duriel, but I figure at least I get a Mulligan.

And Thus Randazon the Amazon was born.

Also forgot to add my congratulations to achieving Guardian Insayne_Wayne. Always an impressive achievement.

So, I managed to Kill Andariel with the Randazon. had an interesting trip through act 1 managing to find Gorefoot, Arctic Belt and Stoutnail. So already up to 3 uniques. No NDE's to report. I've decided to try and focus on blocking and passive skills as these will always be useful whereas the bow skills will probably stop being useful quickly and the javelin skills will only be useful if I can find a unique javelin which I can't bank on. as a result, only using the placeable skill points in a single tree. Now I just need to get past Duriel.

Randazon the Amazon, Level 20, 3 S/U items equipped, Act 2 Sewers next

Just finished act I, finished with:
Uniquies:
Gull Dagger
Damage 2-21
Adds 5-15 damage
-5 mana
%100 better chance of getting magical items
etheral

Set:
Artic Furs Quilted Armour
Def 47
+297% enhanced defence
All Resistances +10

Not bad start i'd say i'm not attacking with the dagger though i use spells and just use dagger for magic find crappy that its ethreal

An early Gull is a nice find indeed.
You have a good chance to get the ball rolling with more MF items before Normal is over.

So hey everyone just gonna do a quick update on my druid.
I'm Lvl 23 in Kurast equipped with
Cathan's Rule Battle Staff
Cathan's Mesh Chain Mail
Sturdy Spirit Mask of The Jackal
Shimmering Amulet
Sturdy Chain Boots of Thawing
Felicitous Ring
Fortuitous Ring of the Apprentice
Heavy Gloves of Fortune
Snake's Belt of the Jackal

on Weapon Switch i have
Gull Dagger (strictly for the MF)
Sturdy Spiked Shield of Deflection

So sitting at lvl 23 I can take out the boss and than for the last blow pull out the Dagger and use 146% MF.

My abilites are currently as follow:
4 Fire Storm
2 Molten Boulder
2 Fissure
1 Artic Blast
1 Werewolf
1 Feral Rage
1 Lycantrope
1 Werebear
3 Raven
1 Poison Creeper
1 Oak Sage
Remember Cathans Staff gives me +1 to all fire skills :)

Melica got something of a dream roll on the monsters in Frigid Highlands: imps, rogue archers and Slayers. Nothing cold immune and nothing scary.

The imp invasion continued on the Plateau, but here were both pure imp packs and imp/Blood Bringer packs. The Blood Bringers were dangerous - cold immune and with the ability to hit for half of Melica´s max. life on critical hits. My number of extra full rejuves fluctuated quite a bit.

Slingers (wuss monsters for my duo) made up the last monster type.

Thresh Socket was LE Extra Fast. I had a special plan ready for him.

Pit of Acheron was very easy: Maw Fiends, skeleton fire mages and even more imps. No exciting fights (there could have been one, but I killed the HF Maw Fiend boss from across the lava). Cheesy as it is, I crank it up to /p8 for sparkly chests. The one in this area rolled desired quailty of unique. That´s a nice thing for almost any character, but especially for a S/U Worshipper.

Both those uniques were new to me. The armor is Spirit Forge, and this one was ethereal. The axe is called Rune Master and has a very weird combination of abilities:
* Cruel damage
* Max cold resist +5%
* CBF
* 5 sockets! Hmm...

Tough start in Abbaddon: Extra Fast Mana Burn Stone Skin Balrog boss. I managed to kill two minions before the boss woke up. Then they all came running, despite my CoS. I escaped to the small starting platform. This boss was probably tankable, but I got nervous now since I didn´t look forward to the times when the four minions would be able to see again. I decided to let Geshef distract the boss while I ran for it, forward. It worked out perfectly and we could now own them across the lava.

The other monsters were Hell Spawn and Vile Temptresses. Nothing dangerous.

What to do with my new toys? Well, the Spirit Forge is slightly better than Hwanin´s for my merc. I added a PTopaz to it (hopefully to be followed by another soon).

Then it hit me: I could make a Rune Master with abilities almost like The Scalper, but with more damage and range 2. I checked a weapon speed calculator and found out that the 30% Sigon´s combo IAS and my level 5 Burst of Speed will make this axe just as fast as The Scalper. A Jewel of Fervor (or Shael, which I don´t have) would not make any difference.

However, first I had to make sure Melica could lift it.
This was the perfect opportunity to use my Sapphire Jewel of Freedom I´ve had for a very long time. That was not enough STR reduction, though. Do I need the Hel rune as well, or do I have another JoF? Yes I do!

Then add life steal, Open Wounds and bonus to AR (well, reduction in monster defense should work just as well...). Here is the result. I really like it (but in hindsight I might have been better off with a flawless skull instead of the Amn, because that would have cut down all needs for mana potions against monsters that don´t drain mana).

Scary ice caves coming up. No nasty early Frenzytaur boss/champ packs, please!!

wow, an ethereal Gull!

hmm, another Melica update!

laughing at Thresh...

Ooh, a unique sparkly chest...

Seven available S/U sockets, non-Larzuk, in one drop, from one mouse click?! :starry:
That's one of the coolest tournament-specific drops I've seen!
Yet again another great drop in an area commonly skipped.

My zon had that armor in the original tourney (non-ethereal), from NM Snapchip's chest IIRC. I used Ort-Thul and was quite grateful for it. You could probably Ort it and use it sparingly for the +life, but it's nice to have CBF independent of weapon choice, i.e. Hawkmail.

The axe socketing is excellent, although the PSkull might be better like you said. And it rolled near-perfect ED and max sockets.

refresh my memory... does the +life/level work on mercs?
not that it matters much for an Act 3 merc, but it helps.

Hey rolleed a 6 on my mullie so i'll take my paladin and try one more time

That is not really within the rules (which state that you only get a second chance if you die in the first two acts) but what the heck, Good Luck with the Paladin!

(BTW, 24 is a really low level to take on D. You would have been much better off if you had access to Summon Grizzly.
My characters reach level 24 already in the Maggot Lair...)

Yeah, Ort-Thul sounds like a good plan. It would be nice with the extra life against Ancients and such. There is 14 durability to play with.

Not Perfect. Flawless is all I have at the moment. Very minor difference, though (no difference on the mana steal).

After I read this comment, I checked the stats (trying to avoid looking at the other elite unique axes. Yikes, there are many!). Had no idea the number of sockets varied. That was indeed an excellent roll.

It works (unless the merc screen is lying).

My official record in SPF HC tournaments is 5 guardians, 6 deaths.
Hmm, let´s see what I can remember:

Guardians:
* Max, of course.
* Victor Shen the Rare Pleasures necromancer (with beefy golem, powerful merc and loads of points in CE)
* Your character in the first Tankazon tourney
* The Poor Barbarian tourney (where you Guardianed a rogue merc! That was awesome.)
* Emerald Lin the level 89 '/p8 all the way "What´s yer poison?"' PJ amazon? Was she Hardcore? If not, who is #5?

Deaths:
* The FE bug death to that Unraveler in the original S/U Worship tourney
* All Alone amazon mobbed to death by snakes in the CVT
* Randomly Challenged character died to Gloam lightning in NM Icy Cellar, right? (and that was going back after he/she became Conqueror, IIRC)
Which other three?

wow lol jiansonz you seem to know alot about Insane Wayne :P or you have done your research

That was just from memory. We have competed in several tournaments, and (as you know) his updates are good reading. :azn:

(Hmm, gotta check my own Guardian/Death record...)

Emerald Lin the level 89 '/p8 all the way "What´s yer poison?"' PJ amazon? Was she Hardcore?
No, she was SC, and died twice (FE maggot boss, and Palace arrow barrage). I remember how bizarre it felt, running naked to retrieve the corpse. My only 2 retrievals in the last 3-4 years playing.

If not, who is #5?
Oberon, the single-skill-tree druid. Level 88. 20 Raven, 20 Sage, 20 Dire, 20 Grizz.

Randomly Challenged character died to Gloam lightning in NM Icy Cellar, right? (and that was going back after he/she became Conqueror, IIRC)
Which other three?
Wow, good memory. A zombie bashed me into new territory and I got zapped by gloams.

My 2-handed sword zon, Kara, was blasted by a teleporting FE beetle in the Act 2 Hell desert (2nd tankazon tourney).
My CS zon, Indigo Lin, was mobbed by Cursed evil urn Hell Frenzytaur pack (Melee blues).
My dual-war-hammer, double-swing, pure-mace-mastery barbarian; dead from unknown causes, in a very old tourney I can't quite remember, and the search isn't working. An early death IIRC.

----------------

I'll take a guess at your old characters (puts on thinking cap) :prop:

Lucky the random zon-- tardy in acquiring Dodge, died Act 2 or 3 Hell.
Brynhilde the Blackazon-- guardian.
Sapphidia the 2-h sword zon-- memorable Passion sword. died in Hell temple from CE bats.
Sten the S/U barb with upped Fleshrender-- guardian.
Isolde the fire rogue (with Mark? the mage necro)-- died Hell Meph lightning.
alphabet sorcie? -- with the AA name? guardian?
All-Alone paladin-- died in Normal, temple snake mob?
skill-less assassin-- died in Hell Kurast, cursed thorned hulks?

I'm pretty sure you're still playing in many tournaments I can't recall. I don't know how you can switch between so many.

Single skill tree tourney, totally forgot about that one! Forgot about Oberon and also forgot about Isolde and Mark. Yep, Mephisto´s Lightning. What a freaky death (considering all the tribulations that duo had survived until then. Sigh...)
Make that 11 deaths, then (see below).

I did remember your sword amazon and the FE beetle (when I was walking back from lunch:azn:). You are correct about my swordmistress. Double boss back of CE Extra Strong bats.

You nailed Sten, Brynhilde and Aaliyah. Blackazon, good description.

My other two succesful heroes:
* Freddie the 'Rare Pleasures' Necromancer (Returnomancer and Lord of Mages)
* SniperBlazie the 'Silly Build' Blaze Enchantress (a little shady due to being played mostly in 1.10 beta)

Then it gets ugly. :hanky:
The ones (except Sapphidia and Isolde/Mark) you got right:
* Adrian the 'All Alone' Frost Zealot (died in a Kurast temple in NORMAL (how embarassing!). Mobbed to death by lots of snakes and beetles while at the same time being exectuted by TWO CE archer boss packs!)
* Lucky the Randomly Challenged amazon (mobbed to death by snakes in a Kurast temple)

Then there are:
* 'Psychos' tourney Daggerzon (really old 1.09 tourney. Got killed in NM Pit, by the death nova of a CE + Conviction skeleton boss (she had bad resists because of MF greed  ))
* Scorchie the Blaze/Lightning sorc in the SPUMF II got killed by Charge attacks in NM Pindle´s zombie garden (my most recent victim)
* In the Pass-it-on tourney, I got Geisha the PS assassin killed in the NM Throne level (mobbed by Doom Knights, balrogs and Frenzytaurs)
* The assassin that died to that Mighty Thrasher boss was not the skill-less one, it was Aimee the Melee Blues Phoenix Striker.
* Venus, the 'Up to level 12 skills' tournament Dragon Talon assassin (instakilled by FE-bugged Madawc in Nightmare)
* Vince the Fire/Summoner Druid in the 'When it rains, it pours' tournament (killed by Ghoul Lord Fire Walls in NM Arcane Sanctuary)

Selena the Skill-less, Langer Briser-toting assassin is technically still alive and she is just where Melica is: about to enter the ice caves in the final act. However, I have now retired her because I cheated. :embarassed:

I saved her with an emergency S&E when she got mobbed by a stairs-trapping dual boss pack of Cursed bats in the sixth and final temple. All potions gone and no hope of an escape. Damn bats! I got so pissed off and could not let go. I felt I really had a realistic chance with that character, and I felt robbed. I played through that temple (no problem on the second try) and the whole way up to where she is now but I lost the drive and the fun since I could not fool myself any longer.

I am not proud of what I did, and I think it shows in Selena´s updates after that. I have now fully accepted that you can never be sure that a character will make it. There is always a risk of getting robbed.

Yeah, I think I have at least a dozen characters in different tourneys. I usually only alternate between 2-3 of them at a time, while the rest are put on ice (some shallow, some deep down) for long periods of time. Tournaments often seem to "die" all of a sudden, and I have much more fun if there are other active players in them.

And then someone comes up with a great tourmanent idea, and I enter far too many of them...

ooo ok i didn't see that rule my bad :p anyways i didn't think lvl 24 was that low last time i did HC when i hit diablo i was around same lvl like i had a decent amount of life, but i accidently clicked on Diablo to melee him and buy the time i ran to my portal he had boned it and out came a ring of fire lol
