Set/Unique Item Worshippers Tournament II

Hey erimat, now that I've finished in the Money-hater tourney, can I port over my barbarian from S/U worship #1? The original rules are compatible with yours. I'd like to finish that character, not start a new worshipper.

Exhibition of course, no competition intended with the current entrants. My character's progress fits in the range of your current leaders. I could revive the old thread, but then we'd have dueling Worshipper threads. No big deal, but I don't want to cause any confusion.

Absolutely. Welcome aboard. :)

Hi Insane Wayne, I was allowed to enter with my character from Worshipper 1 too. She was in first act normal though...
Now when I see how much time I spent with my HC projects, I really hope there will be Worshipper 3 :azn:
I could get her to act 3 in that case

Not a whole lot more to update, other than Bob did manage to take down Andarial. She got her very first S/U from an act boss. Too bad it was a duplicate Sigon's Belt

Anyway, Bob is now cooling his heels in Act 2.

Please welcome Destroyer "Maximum Fang" to the tournament. His bizarre name is the product of a random name generator. I call him Max. I created Max (a Barbarian) about 18 months ago in the first S/U tourney, after my first character (an Amazon) died in Act 2 Hell. I was too impatient to wait for an official S/U#2 tourney, so I butted in the original, just for fun. I guess you could say that Max truly belongs in this tourney, since he's my second Worshipper. It's been over a year since I played him.

Max fights with an Act 3 Cold Merc named Flux. Max and Flux are currently level 67, just starting Act 5 Nightmare. A breakdown of my stats, skills, and gear:

Str 132, Dex 90, Vit 229, Energy 20 (5 points saved)

Skills:
2 Howl
5 Find Potion :sad2:
4 Taunt
1 Shout
4 Find Item
2 Battle Orders
1 Grim Ward
1 Battle Command

3 Sword Mastery
2 Axe Mastery
3 Mace Mastery
3 Polearm Mastery
4 Throwing Mastery
4 Spear Mastery
1 Iron Skin
5 Natural Resistances

5 Bash
1 Leap
1 Double Swing
3 Stun
1 Double Throw
2 Leap Attack
4 Concentrate
1 Frenzy
1 Berserk

Early in Max's career, my random skill luck was poor. I had to spend saved points to open up certain skills. Additional saved points went to Find Item and Natural Resists. I have 10 points saved, which I'm 99% certain will go to Battle Orders and Howl.

Max's Gear:
Fleshrender Barbed Club, from NM Meph. End-game quality!
Steelclash Kite Shield
Wormskull Bone Helm, 5% Life Leech
Skin of the Flayed One Demonhide Armor, 7% Life Leech
Hwanin's Blessing Belt
Bloodfist Heavy Gloves
Tearhaunch Greaves
The Mahim-Oak Curio Amulet
Cathan's Seal, 6% Life Leech
Cathan's Seal, 6% Life Leech

Weapon Switch: Pompeii's Wrath Crowbill and Blackbog's Sharp Cinquedeas

As you can see, Max's bread and butter is his Life Leech. With 24% LL he can tank just about anything as long as it's leechable. Against large mobs, I will first frenzy with Pompeii's and Blackbog's. Both items have 50% slowing. Anything hit by Blackbog's also suffers 488 poison damage. After I hit all the monsters, I switch to Concentrate with Fleshrender.

Flux's Gear:
Blood Crescent Cutlass
Steelclash Kite Shield
Iratha's Coil Crown
Hawkmail (I often borrow this from Flux when I need CBF)

Stashed S/U's:
Sigon's Gauntlets, Arctic Binding, Naj's Circlet, Crushflange, Ironstone (upgraded to a Battle Hammer) and my favorite item, a gift from the Cow King.

These 4 items were found during an awesome lucky streak in NM Kurast:
Crimson Jewel of Fervor
Steel (+132 AR) Grand Charm
Steel (+116 AR) Grand Charm of Sustenance (+23 life)
Steel (+105 AR) Grand Charm of Sustenance (+25 life)

I can't complain about Max's finds. Not bad considering his atrocious MF. My grand total for MF is 1% from a stupid large charm!

Diablo... has fallen!

Four words sum up my Act IV experience: I love Blade Fury.

Nyx and her Cold Wolf companion, Ajheed, are an unstoppable force. Not much can stand in the way of being Knocked Back, Slowed Down, and Frozen. They bladed their way through worm, hags, knights, mages, corpse spitters, and bats. It takes a VERY long time on P8, but she has enough leech that she never worries about mana, and they never hit her, so life isn't an issue.

Phoenix Strike comes out against act bosses and major enemies (i.e. Izual). Hephy got Blade Furied to death, as I didn't want to deal with the meleeing against him. The forge rewarded us with a Thul, and a skull pile later in the act gave yet another.

The act was also very sparse for uniques. In fact, it took Lord De Seis to break the trend -- he coughed up the Chieftain and....

Iceblink! This is a really awesome armor. Cold resist and Hit Freezes Target? It could NOT be better.

The other S/U this round came from the Infector's Minion, and he gave Nyx the gift of Vidala's Amulet. Two fairly uncommon S/U amulets for me this game. It could be interesting for set bonuses later...

Diablo could not have been easier. He was severely slowed, and Rixot's made fairly quick work of his life bar. He gave a bunch of crappy rares, and access to the mammoth of an act that is Act V.

Nyx threw more free-use points into Phoenix Strike, and rolled points in Mind Blast and Fade. Fade is quite useful.... more so than Burst of Speed in many respects.

She's still lacking a ring, belt, merc shield, and two pieces of headgear, which I'm sure will mostly get filled up during Act V.

Nyx the BFsin, 11 S/U equipped, Level 34 - Next Area, Act V.

Edit: Played the Bloody Hills. Not exciting -- 2 levels, a point into Fire Blast...

Oh. And.. Bloodrise!!

Nyx the BFSin, 11 S/U equipped, Level 36 - Next Quest: Free the Barbs!

Although it's been a year since I played Max, it didn't take long to get in the swing of things. Double swing, that is...

The beginning Act 5 guest monsters were a complete joke! Imps, hawks, boars, and occasional slingers. I felt no need for a shield, and instead double-swung Fleshrender and Pompeii's Wrath. Max has only one strategy:
spam taunt, get mobbed, and bash skulls. I count on 24% LL to keep me safe. No problem against inferior baddies.

I made good progress on p7 setting throughout the outdoor areas, clearing every bit. I let Flux handle Thresh Socket, after leading Thresh into a trap. Mighty Thresh, pwned by tiki torch yet again! Will you never learn?

Things became more complicated in the cave areas. I had tough monsters with lots of aura boss packs. Snakes were everywhere, in the evil urns as well. I had to resort to safer gameplay, using howl and taunt to pick them apart. I hit the Tri-fecta of tough monster types in the Frozen River. Gloams, CI Sirens w/ Curse attacks, and more snakes! Including 3 consecutive Extra Strong LE bosses! I had to skimp on leech and buffer my resists with Iratha's Crown and Hawkmail.

Frozenstein coughed up the Act's first S/U, Hellplague. Wouldn't be too bad upgraded, but can't compare to Fleshrender and Pompeii's (although a little mana leech would be nice...).
Another S/U from the Glacial Trail, Riphook Razor Bow. My dream bow for my previous barb!... here it's useless.

Although the S/U's have been rare (due to crappy 1% MF), my luck turned good in random skill assignment. I scored a point in Battle Command, followed by Battle Orders. Nice. The next point (chosen), went into Howl.

Non-S/U finds have been OK too. I found a Bone Jewel of Fervor (my second fervor jewel), a Mentalist's GC of Frost, a couple nice small resistance charms, and runes: Amn x3, Sol, Dol, Hel.

Oh yeah, I saw a good luck sign: Black Hack.

Gibsu has beaten Diablo once again!

Working therough Act 4 we found Izual, and I used a paperweight on my mouse to slowly wear him down on /p8. Someone in his vicinity dropped Tearhaunch. Sweet! That replaced the Hsarus' Iron Heel Gibsu was currently wearing. Down in the River of Flame we faced Grotesques – sigh. Their 70% cold resist made it extra slow going, but eventually we cleared them all and reached the Chaos Sanctuary.

Inside the CS I dropped to /p3 for extra safety against Knights. Even so there were too many close calls. (Even a freezealot with good life leech has to beware Iron Maiden!) After clearing the Sanctuary Diablo was no problem. Gibsu just got in his face and tanked him! His resists are all >75%, and he was able to stand close enough to avoid the lightning hose. The entire battle only required three small rejuvs and two super healing potions. All it got us in the way of S/U, though, was Bloodthief, Arcanna’s Flesh, and another Sigon’s shield. Meh.

Now we’re off to Act 5, to get some real experience!

Actually, I put the shield in storage. I am addicted to +skills, so maybe I will drag it out again sometime. But to wear Arcanna’s Flesh, you must either be pretty desperate, or else it has some attribute I am unaware of!

I have the amulet: that would mean +50% MF!
I could move Hawkmail to the merc and borrow it when I really need CBF. Progress is neither slow nor dangerous, so I can just as well wear as much MF as possible for most of Nightmare.

You love MF% the way I love +skills, I guess. By the way, I found my own Hawkmail yesterday as well (from a champion Balrog). It's in storage for emergencies, since other than CBF it isn't so neat.

RiverSue has completed NM Act 2. Duriel was surprisingly easy at P4. No trips to town, no merc death, no Valkarie recast. It just took a few minutes to whittle him down. Of course he dropped nothing but a few rare items that I would not have used even if I were allowed to. Now we are on to Kurast to see what S/U items await us there.

RiverSue - Amazon {Level 57}
Equipment: {RiverSue is wearing 10 S/U and the Merc is wearing 4 S/U}
Ring Nagelring
Ring Plague Circle (RARE) +5 resist all, +9 fire resist, a few others
Amulet Wraith Gorget (RARE) +17 MF, +15 all resist, +1 Amazon P&M skills
Gloves Sander's Taboo Gloves
Belt Bladebuckle Belt
Boots Sander's Riprap
Helm Face of Horror Mask
Armor Venom Ward Breast Plate
Weapon 1 Hell Plague Long Sword
Shield 1 Milabrega's Orb Kite Shield
Weapon 2 Crushflange Mace
Shield 2 Stormguild Large Shield

Act 3 Merc
Helm Face of Horror Mask
Armor Isenhart's Case Breast Plate
Weapon Isenhart's Lightbrand
Shield Cleglaw's Claw

Skills: 24 of the 37 random skills have been assigned to various bow or javelin skills which are completely useless unless I find the one Unique javelin that exists. 13 of the random skills have been assigned to P&M skills and my own 25 skills have all gone to P&M skills so that this is the current P&M situation:
Inner sight 1
Critical Strike 5
Dodge 5
Slow Missiles 2
Avoid 1
Penetrate 4
Decoy 3
Evade 1
Valkarie 16
Pierce 0

The near term objective is to max out Valkarie. Next (If she should live so long) would be developing decoy/penetrate and Critical strike. If I should find that Javelin, I won't have very much to give it skill, but that won't happen anyway.

Actually, there are 5 unique javelins. 4 of them are elites.

It's been a while since I've had time to play SuJez, and now he has just finished the Kurast Bazaar. The fight through the tombs was quite exhausting, and led to unfavourable results. One of the mummies dropped Serpent Lord, the unique longstaff. Og oh, I had to switch to using the Angelic Sickle and put the rare 99 dura flail in the stash.

There was such a noticeable difference in the attack speed and damage. Stupid mummy. Thus, I was wishing that no other unique weapon would drop, so I could give the sickle to the Act 3 Merc and allow me to continue using the flail. Alas, twas not to be! Stupid duriel not only gave me a pounding, but had to drop that darned Berserker's Hatchet. Three crappy weapons, and no other set pieces  Found Hsaru's Iron Heel somewhere along the way.

Act 3 has been uneventful in terms of items so far. No unique/sets whatsoever to speak of. There's been plenty of great blue scenery though, and matrix style performance by SuJez. Holy freeze, coupled with 'ctc frost nova', and Jalani's glacial spikes/Ice blasts led to everything being almost still. Once the frost nova was triggered, herds of flayers were no longer deadly.

The random points placed themselves in cleansing, defiance, resist fire, and thankfully, resist cold! Been pretty lucky with the skills so far, and I'm refraining from unlocking Vigor and Holy shield with my own points till i actually need them. I have 4 skill points left over, which I'm debating whether to use in Holy Freeze.

SuJez the paladin
Level 31
6 S/U equipped
Act 3 Kurast Bazaar

The rest of Act 5 had plenty of fleshy guest monsters for Max to leech from. "Bring 'em on!", Max taunted, confident in his 24% LL. No special tactics, just non-stop Double Swing.

Nihlathak's Halls dropped four "of shock" charms, none with a prefix. Weird.
2 small, 1 large, and 1 grand; which collectively added about 4-110 lightning damage. I made room for them in my inventory, for now. No way those larger charms are going to make the cut, in Hell.
More charm luck followed, when I quadrupled my MF (from 1%, to 4%) with an Iron Small Charm of Fortune. Wow... 4%. I'm so thrilled...:unimpressed:

I found a useful armor on the Fruzen Tundra, Goldskin Full Plate Mail, with 35 resist-all. Unfortunately, it's ethereal! Flux can wear it in Hell, and with 36 durability, I can use it in a pinch for Max, if needed.

I accidently fought the Ancients at p7. No big deal because they had easy mods. With the monster slow on Pompeii's Wrath, I was able to separate them simply by running. I finished Madawc first. FE Talic gave me a scare. I wasn't considering the player setting when I killed him, and his FE burst took off nearly all of Max's remaining life. Korlic got stuck, and Flux (hiding behind a wall) killed him by firing through the structure. Crazy D2 physics.

No problems in the WSK. Mostly leechables again, packed with flayers. One minor delay, when I had to use knockback to separate 5 heirophants (boss plus 4 champs).
p8 for the Minions. Lister and Max fought an epic battle, knocking each other back between a pair of pillars. Max outlasted him, thanks to potions.
I went to p5 for Baal, still Double-swinging Fleshrender and Pompeii's. The slowing plus chilling kept him calm. Easy finish. Not one S/U dropped!

NM Cow entrance was cramped, to say the least. The Cow King glared at me through the fence. I killed him at p3, and horked him to receive a total of 10 items. The rare tyrant club was high-end ferocious, with big dual-leech. Nice mods, but utterly unworthy of worship.

The latest random skill points went to Mace Mastery, Shout, and Leap Attack. 2 of those 3 are helpful, can't complain.

To prepare for Hell, first I upgraded Steelclash to a Dragon Shield, for a higher blocking %. The leech approach is abandoned, although I'm still forced to wear Cathan's Seal x2 (no other alternatives). I'm using Cow King's Hide and Iratha's Crown to get resists up. Primary attack is Concentrate or Berserk with Fleshrender. I spent all my gold gambling bone shields, light gauntlets, and rings. Incredibly, I scored Iratha's Gloves! I've been trying for those for a long time now, what a lucky break! The set bonus is 20% IAS.

So far I cleared the Den of Evil. With my free point, I opened up Battle Cry. I was hoping to land a random point there, but it never happened. I intend to use this skill, a lot. Even at level 1, it's great.

Worshipper has found some more items to worship (with the MF of the party at 40%, 18% on merc): Infernal Cranium (worshipped by merc), Stoutnail (on switch) and, right before Andariel, Knell Striker which is the primary weapon now. And so, Worshipper has finally gone melee as most worshippers do.

The merc carries the unique short bow, Pluckeye, and that forbids me from hiring an act 2 merc for now, so the killing power will suffer.

Andariel was easy and dropped nothing of remembrance.

I've never played amazons before and it seems she is stunlocked much more than other characters, but that may be just an impression.

The skill points are distributed as follows:
Javalin tree (all randomly attributed):
- Jab, Impale, Power Strike 1 (i wish impale would work with all weapons)
- Poison Javelin, Lightning Bolt 2
Passive tree:
- Dodge, Avoid, Penetrate 1 (all carefully chosen :))
- Inner Sight 2 (1 chosen, 1 random)
- Critical Strike 3 (all chosen)
Bow tree (all random):
- Cold Arrow, Magic Arrow 1
- Fire Arrow 3

1 point saved.

Amazons have terrible block recovery speed with all swinging weapons. If you can´t be so lucky as to find a javelin, maybe you can find a good dagger. :wink3:

Otherwise you will have to get clever with Decoy, valk and merc and wait for the right opportunity (when battle formations are stable) to move in and start hitting, preferrably with a weapon with long range. That´s what I did in Hell with my amazon (using a 'Black' Knout) in the first Tankazon tournament.
