*Serverside patch* duping fixed/connection interrupted ifr

haven't been around for a while, but it's good to see something going on in the diablo 2 sector

they still need to remove all the dupes and reset the ladder though

I think that they could check incrementally. Everytime you enter/exit a game record the items on each char. When you find someone else has those items go check the inventory of the other char for dupes.

Seems pretty straight forward. You just have to keep an array indexed by item numbers that contain the char number.
Yeah but that wouldn't be active at all. Better than what we get today but still not a sudden and decisive fix. I could keep 100 duped HRs in a mule just for trades... Anyway I still think that would take massive computing power. You have to keep a second record of every char (at least the gear, which is 80% of the char file) reduced to only the ID codes. Then you list it and everytime a char enters you have to compare all his itms to the list and record it. And everytime you save, the list gets changed. With jerks like me entering/leaving games every 2 mins with 6-10 chars...The amount of recording/comparing/deleting could get huge...

They should definately increase the ping to more then 100.. the game is almost unplayable now with this patch. Sure all is well in games with low ammounts of players.. but the player limit on games is 8! not 2.. if the game cant be playable with 8 characters then that makes no sense.. start nerfing all the animations and make everything into lines! that will remove the lag.

This fix was not thought through and its been out for a while now with no changes to game playability. Dupe lag sucked but atleast when people werent duping we could play. We had our ups and downs. Now its just constant. (Cant play)

Seems fine to me. I find it much easier to duel with less lag, but there are those who intentionally try to crash games. :grrrr:

I have a hypothetical question: if Blizzard decides to reset the lag (do you think will it happen ever again?), what are the chances that duped items will reemerge? Frankly, I find it disgusting to play the game where everyone has a perfect Grief or some other totaly unattainable items... Tendency to drop runes is catastrophicly low in the game, yes, however imagine how you would envy that guy who was actualy able to get their hands on Enigma in a legit way... I heard that the problem with runes is that they cannot be traced after cubed to a higher rune, is that true?
Basicaly, I would like Blizzard to improve rune drops (I played single and lan for a very long time, got several characters to 99 in cows, found almost all artifacts in the game which I still keep, even in TC 90 that existed in previous patches, but never, never got any rune higher than Gul from a drop. That is simply insane) and reset the ladder and kick dupes out (that I do hope).

The lag dupe has been round forever, because lag has been around, well, forever. If the serverside "patch" was fixed, duping would become rampant again

Again? So it means that there was a time when it wasn't possible?

Theoritical question: is it possible to make a game (i.e. Diablo 3) that will be (almost) totaly dupe/hack/etc free?

About my other questions (cubing runes, rune rarity)?

Erm, cubed runes will still poof, i don't know the specific mechanics about how that works though.

Sure it is, it is just that Blizzard encourages cheaters by not stopping them or waiting 6-10 months and then suspend a few accounts for a month.

In other games using 3rd party programms has bad consequences very quickly, within hours and if the server logs show you exploiting a bug (e.g. selling something back for more that you bought it) you will get a suspension or your account will just be terminated.

Lag spikes have been awful lately. Spent a bit of time shopping for trapclaws and got horrid 10 sec+ lag frequently. Was annoying.
