Hope I'm getting this right, just making a general post where I can reply and include all of my previous pat/pat/guardians (I don't think I have guardians, but that seems to be the theme) and have them added to the fancy archive. This will take me some time to do since I have to do some digging. I'll set up the general format of everything and get it all rounded out as the day goes on.

EDIT:

Here's what I have so far. I feel like there's more but it would take some more digging that I don't currently have time for.

EDIT2: All characters are SC because I'm a big baby that won't set foot into Hardcore

Patriarch Miroku(1.10) (Originally posted May 4, 2005)

So I finally got around to just dragging my Wind Druid through the rest of hell.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean dragging as in it was hard, I just mean dragging as in it was boring.

Since I wanted to get it done fast as possible, I cruised through at /players 1. He could do plenty fine at /players 8, though(Except maybe against that Minotaur boss pack...). So here he is. Patriarch Miroku.

His gear is... "Meh" but yeah.

I could probably swap out a few charms and easily max out my resistances, but I didn't wanna. And it wasn't really needed that much.

I decided to skip using TGods since Cyclone Armor absorbed 1955 Elemental damage. Even though it doesnt count resistances, that pretty much rendered gloams harmless.

Trang-Oul's Claws and Girth gave +18 to fireball. After +skills that went up to 27. At one point I ran into a PI/CI that couldn't be broken with Decrepify. Desperate I swapped to the fireball. Surprisingly it worked. So I kept with that setup. Sadly in late act 5, quite a few monsters regenerated waaaaaay too fast.

Weeeeell... that's it.

He didn't have any interesting finds along the way from what I remember, and Hellforge in Hell dropped a Lem. :(

Well I finally got my Trapasn to mat. Hard to believe that just a couple of days ago she was sitting in Act 1 normal at level 7. Ah the young days.

Her journey up through normal was pretty humdrum. 1.09 Raven Claw gets things done nice and cheesily. Once I hit level 25 I stopped using it and relied purely on my traps, though.

Nothing too special happened. She didn't have many deaths, and those that did were due to my misuse of skills or just blindly charging through masses of enemies only to run into more masses that I couldn't run past, then trying to backtrack only to get sandwiched.

Well here she is!

Basically her strategy was to cast a few Lightning Sentry's and let things die. If she came across a lightning immune monster, the Shadow Master engaged and I spammed Fire Blast while my mercenary attacked. If Gloams approached, CoS was cast and then the same above procedures followed.

So yes. No real notable finds along the way, except Hell Hellforge decided to drop me an Ist, which is nice.

What will I do with her now? Well after getting... two more Entrapping charms(plus two more from lemming I haven't gotten to use yet, gg dood) she's retiring to a life of PvP. That's right. Watch out PvP. Here comes Serdash.

So... uh... any questions?

Matriarch Alexia(1.10) (Originally posted June 16, 2005)

Well this is my pure blizzard sorceress. Honestly I don't see what all the hype is, you have to A) Have a beefy merc and no crowd control to speak of or B) Run around like a scared little girl.

I chose option B.

Throughout my entire career of playing, this character had the most trouble at Hell Ancients.

What is she good at?

Just about nothing. She can run pindleskin, but in the time her merc dies, she's got one shot or nothing at it, otherwise she's dead.

But. With a little help from shermo a few minutes ago, I got past the ancients, and Baal was a snap.

Overall one of the most annoying characters. Are all of the one-tree sorceresses this bad? I mean my fire sorc is only 72, and my lightning sorc in her mid 60's, and they seem to not be having this kind of trouble with the game so far. I mean my trapper didn't have this much trouble(Then again she had CoS).

Meh. I guess I can retire her to pindleskin runs or something. Not much else she can really do.

Another Mat/Pat I can't help but not really like all that much. :\

Anything I missed?

Well then. This character was sometimes fun to play, given she was highly overpowered. Early on I used my cheesey combo of Raven Claw up until level 28. Then I put on a Razorswitch and other good caster gear, basically once she hit level 30 and got orb, she was dominating the game.

I like the fact she could run through hell decked out with a whopping 356% MF on normal killing gear, and if I swiched weapons it came up to a grand total of 481%. Given I didn't find too many interesting things, it was one of the more "Gaha! 3y3 r0xx0rz j00!" builds. Which seems to be what I've been playing lately. This one was more fun for some reason, maybe because it's not a single-element-pwnfest.

In act 3 hell she found a Gris Caddy from a random boss in the Ruined Temple, Hellforge drop was an Um(bleh) and Diablo and Baal dropped crap.(As usual)

So uh...

Any questions?

Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you one of seven... Patriarch Breathadin.

You might've noticed my "zomg botd" post a while back, and I had to create this character for him. After a spiffy discussion with Nightfish, I've decided to create, what I have deemed, the Breathless. Seven characters, one of each class, each one utilizing BotD in one way or another. I figured since Ryon and Icebird have the "Endless" for their 7/99's, I would do a cheap ripoff of it with the title "Breathless". ;)

75 Dex
355 Vit
15 Ene

That's right. Utilizing a mere 75 dexterity, I maintained 75% blocking throughout the game. I could've probably went with base, but it would've made early levelling a real pain in the bum.

In fact I probably could've dealt with a bit less in str as well, since my gear gave quite a bit as it is. But whatever.

I played through the entire game, including hell, at /players 8. This is the reason for his "higher" level, which to be honest isn't really impressive for some of the work it took in certain areas.

I was going to utilize Passion on switch for the Berserk to easier handle PI's, but it turns out that on /players 8, 2000 damage with zerk isn't as much as you once thought. Especially when that pack of extra strong extra fast ghosts is right in your face. So after I polished off Act 1 I gave my merc the Reaper's Toll.

For areas heavy with skeletons and mummys to raise them(or just heavy in skeletons or overall unleechable monsters) I used Dracul's grasp. Though my mercs decrep usually overwrote it very quickly, I usually got in plenty of hits to refill my life in the short time it was up, as did he.

This guy had one major weakness, that was Iron Maiden. Passion was also my solution to Iron Maiden. But once again, /players 8 made the Berserk not so impressive, especially while in an OK's face and surrounded by a bunch of doom knights and storm casters.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why I died a grand total of 14 times throughout the game.

Normal wasn't bad, I was still utilizing cheap strategy(read: 1.09 Raven Claw). In nightmare I could effectively use Passion and berserk for a good kill on Oblivion Knights, but hell was damn near impossible with it. So I charged in and hoped for the best.

So uh... yeah. Nothing too spiffy or entertaining about him.

Any questions?

So yeah. Basic lightning zon, just minus a synergy and plus an "LI ****" skill. Which oddly enough in her last moments of becoming Matriarch, wasn't much **** since we were playing on /players 8. But when I was solo-ing, it wasn't too bad. And 7k AR wasn't really that bad when fighting off LI's either. Sure the damage wasn't insane, and they didn't go down in like two hits, but if I was to solo, it wouldn't have been a bad experience to be using the Windforce. I would've gladly used an Eaglehorn for the extra AR if it wasn't for the fact I didn't have one. But oh well. It's all good. She's going to rock some face in cows now. Sadly her backup of strafe would now be wonderful to place for a syenrgy to make cows go faster, but meh. I figured it would be nice to have something on the times I'm not cowing. Plus, LF rapes enough anyways.

Uh... yeah. Questions? Comments? WTFNOOBs?

The character was pretty fun. It was insanely easy for 90% of the game not including the ancients. They sucked. They were what almost tempted me to use my 200+ stat points I had floating around. But after an MP session with Guai and Cloudy, ancients went down and baal along with them.

She survived fairly well on her supply of 555 life and 423 mana. Her base stats are enough to get her equipped with her items, and that's it. Since M'avina's set already gives a nice boost to str and dex, this wasn't too hard.

Maybe at some point I'll spend those 280 stat points. But for now, I think I'll keep them as a reminder that FA zons, in 90% of all situations, are way too overpowered.

GG? Questions? Comments? Concerns? orly?

Patriarch Breatharian(1.11) (Originally posted Jan 16, 2008)

This is 2 of 7.

I know what you're all thinking, "WTF, Dash? You still play D2?"

Those of you not thinking that are probably thinking, "WTF, Dash? 2 of 7? Where's 1 of 7?"

Well, some of you might not remember that I decided to go on some crazy and really lame quest to make a sept with one of each class that utilizes not only BotD as a primary weapon, but also uses it to attack. (No Necromancers just holding an axe behind an army of skeletons. That's almost as lame as Silo and Aman combined.)

So since I was procrastinating on finishing the barb before I got Fortitude, I finally decided to finish him. He was in act 3 hell, and just needed to get the part from the sewers and the flail, which meant he didn't have much left to go.

Finally finished him a few minutes ago, and I must say it was an overall gg character, although it got really boring after level 24.

I could've improved his equipment by leaps and bounds, but didn't find a need to. His only real purpose was to provide Decrepify against PIs.)

So yeah. This was a pretty boring character. All I did was cast Battle Command, Battle Command, BO, then Shout. Hold down right mouse button, and then watch some TV.

I played through on /players 8 in normal, /players 8 in nightmare, then for hell it went something like... p8, p8, p8, p5/p1, p3. In act 4 I dropped to p1 for clearing the Chaos Sanctuary simply to get past the whole iron maiden thing(Of which I didn't die to once in the CS, yet died to a single time in the Throne in act 5.)

Bosses were a joke. I had 45% Crushing blow which was gg, and my deadly strike was at... 96% on Death Cleaver when totalling up the DS from Death Cleaver, Gore Rider, and Guillaumes. Tack on the 21% Critical Strike from my mastery and it turns into a ~98% Deadly Strike or so. Which meant I was dealing just about twice as much damage with Death Cleaver almost all of the time. While BotD was dealing twice as much damage ~42% of the time. Not as much, but it has too much damage anyways.

So yeah.

Pretty boring stuff.

Next up is Breathazon. The tankazon of nightmares. It'll be a story filled with despair, and possibly Serdash taking another break from D2 because he picked now of all times to finish this lame BotD Sept.

GG?

GG.

Any questions?

Patriarch Symon(1.11) (Originally posted Jan 23, 2008)

WTF? Dash has another pat having just finished one barely a week ago?

WTF? It's another barb?

WTF? Dash still plays D2?

Well, I indeed did decide to play some D2, and this time it was with my thrower, one that I made way back when I had to restart 1.10 due to a HDD Crash.

He got parked in act 1 hell because his overall gear(not weapons, just the other stuff) was sub par and his kill speed even on players 1 was questionable. Lack of attack rating made things difficult as well.

Well, after putting a few spins on his gear selection, and swapping around a couple more items, I came up with a decent amount of gear that made him completely viable. At first I kept his normal setup of 2x Lacerator, with 2x Ethereal Lacerators on switch, but I remembered I had Warshrikes now. Which were much more gg.

This turned my throwbarb into a Throwbarb/Nova sorc. Nova flying off at insane speeds, and the fact that I was MPing with a few others when he went from Act 2 -> Act 5 meant he didn't have to worry -too- much about strategy. Just throwing knives at ridiculous speeds. And when in a party of a couple paladins, he would deal a lulz amount of damage.

Well, here he is, and any questions can be answered afterwards.

So yeah. He was a lot less boring to play than the frenzier, although after his equipment revision, I can't say that it was making it much more "fun". Not to mention self replenishing weapons don't self replenish fast enough in most cases.

No Hellforge drop for this guy yet. The group we were MPing with had a couple of nubs who had already finished the game and were giving us WPs and helping us totally hax our way through the remainder of the game with little to no effort. All was gg.

Any questions?

This is #3 of 7 of my BotD Sept. She was actually quite fun to play and surprised me at how efficiently she killed things. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm lazy and impatient she probably could've cruised her way through hell at p8 with minimal difficulty.

I didn't realize until just now when I was looking through my charms that I had a worthless +5 str/+12 def grand charm in my inventory. Must've slipped my eye when I was getting botd equipped, but oh well. The most I could've squeezed out of that would be another 10 max damage gc or maybe some life charms, nothing huge lost there.

My equipment got me to the 6 frame hit recovery breakpoint, and though I could've swapped gear to get to the 5 frame one, I didn't find it to be necessary. With my IAS, I was swinging the axe at 8 frames, which I would've needed another 90% or so more IAS to reach 8 frames, so rather than sacrificing what would be tons of damage for another breakpoint, once again I decided against.

Her damage was quite astounding, one shotting things even in parts of act 3, and still 2-4 hit kills in parts of act 5 for certain monsters. I was amazed she was doing this well, but then again it was only on p1 so no huge need to stand around and swing all day. With Critical Strike as well as Deadly Strike from equipment she had a...
66 + (60/100) * (100 - 66)
66 + (60/100) * 34
66 + 20.4 = 86.4% Chance to deal double damage. Not as high as my frenzier, but still quite effective.

You might wonder why I have Sol runes in my helmet and shield instead of the usual pdiamond or something else of that sort. The thing is my resists were fine in hell without those things, and I honestly couldn't think of anything to put in there unless I wanted to try for the next fhr breakpoint(which I didn't), so in went the Sol Runes. With the shield, helm, fortitude and my rare ring I came to a smooth 23 DR. Combined with the 35% damage reduction from stormshield, they made for a nice combo of keeping me alive whenever I DID take damage.

Speaking of taking damage, this girl was practically invicible. ~50% chance to avoid attacks with d/a/e, 75% chance to block, high resistances(except poison, but only noobs use poison lolololol) and a decent chunk of life. Assuming a physical attack DID pass through, it hit a nice wall of 35% damage reduction and 23 DR before touching the zon. And with 27% life leech and her damage? Psh, wasn't going to do much.

You'll notice that in the screenshot I only have 2268 AR. Which you may think to be low for act 5 hell, but I opted to drop points into Inner Sight rather than Penetrate. Why you ask? Well, at level 24, Inner Sight drops enemy defense by 1095, which might not sound like a lot, but in hell, Baal only has 2847 Defense(According to AS. Someone can prove me wrong if they like.)

So toss Inner Sight's -1095 defense on that, and it becomes 1752, but wait we're not done yet! BotD has -25% target defense, which (sadly) comes into play after Inner Sight, so drop that by another 25% and we've got... 1314 Defense. That's roughly -46% target defense total, which with my level gave me about a 60% chance or so to hit baal. Which isn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either seeing as fast as he went down. And other monsters don't have anywhere near that defense( I don't think ) so it makes inner sight just as good to use as Penetrate. Granted I had no other use for my mana aside from tossing a decoy every now and again, so others may wish to use penetrate instead.

The mercenary proved to be a fine companion until around act 5. In fact until the moment we set foot in act 5 I think he was trying to ruin my day and just died left and right. Mostly due to high amounts of succubi and unleechables, as well as elemental attackers. He wasn't exactly outfit in the best of gear, and I simply had those things in my stash at the end of NM and rolled with it. His might aura proved to be quite efficient, and decrepify was good for handling PIs.

Also, my valk was godly.

Deaths? Only one in hell, that was when I decided that this zon was completely invincible, no matter what the circumstance, sans IM(which I didn't die to at all) and I charged a boss pack of dolls while Cursed.

Well we know how that one ended. Invincibility can only go so far it seems.

Either way, here's #3 of 7, and I hope you guys enjoyed the read.

Any questions? Comments? GG?

Oh god. Dash is still playing D2?
Why yes, yes I am. Some of you might have seen me in a few MP Baals, I was just getting warmed up to play a real character for once, or at least I thought so.

So how was it?
Horrible. I must honestly say that I would've preferred going with a faster weapon, possibly a passion PB for zeal, and maybe even a few other things just to make it go a little faster. It wasn't hard. Just horrendously slow and boring.

Wait, an Act 1 Mercenary?
Quite. While my attack rating was in the 8000's, I figured it would be nice to have something around that could help me hit things more. How does an Act 1 mercenary do that? Why Inner Sight of course! At level 80 she was casting a level 26 Inner Sight, pushing monster defense down by a whopping -1255 points. That's quite a lot of defense for most monsters. That with an almost 9000 Attack Rating meant I didn't spend too much time missing, keeping me leeching and everything.

So it was an ES Sorc? But how? You only have 700 mana!
Indeed. She buffed up to a level 22 Energy Shield, which was 77% Absorb rate and was just fine. She used mana for two things. Teleport and Static Field. The latter was only used for bosses or high HP champion monsters, and the former was used to just reposition myself and the merc. So I didn't have to worry about low mana for casting spells. Sure it got drained a little "faster", but quaffing a mana potion now and again took care of that.

But what about mana burners?
What about them? They drain sorcs with a hell of a lot more mana than I had. I didn't need mana for spells. I let my ES go down and I killed them off and buffed later. To be honest I only buffed the level 22 ES when I went to town for something, if it went down after that I just kept the memory on switch and put a lower level one up as a nice tasty damage buffer.

Why so horrible then?
The sorceress wasn't low on equipment. She had enough FHR to reach the 6 frame breakpoint, Stormshield automatically gets to the 6 frame block rate, her HP was probably a bit low, but with ES it made it like she had a second life bulb, really. She swung at 11 frames, which was slow, but her damage was fine. She didn't need to worry about having mana regen from insight becuase with 7% mana leech on BotD and 6% mana leech on Vamp Gaze, she was eating back a good amount of mana with each hit, and her life leech wasn't too shabby either, coming in at a nice 26%. She didn't die EASY, but...

But what?
Elemental attackers, and skeletal mages were the bane of this build. Elemental damage ate through her low HP since it sliced through energy shield, and her maxed resistances were reliant upon Fade being active from Treachary, which it wasn't always up. Her fire resistance was bad as well, Venom Lords were very difficult to deal with in act 4 and the last of act 5. Most things spitting fire, like hydras, also ate through her HP. I equipped a Laying of Hands at these times to try and deal with it better, but it only helped so much.

Hey, I notice your formatting is a bit similar to Liq's threads, but it's lacking the witty randomness and humor!
Your mom is lacking.

Okay but seriously. While the sorceress suffered very few deaths(most of them due to bad teleporting decisions) and was overall safe, I don't think I would build a melee sorceress without some kind of plan in mind. I'd most likely go with using enchant from Demon Limb so I could put up a higher level ES right off the bat, and maybe plan my equipment a bit better. I went into hell with random things equipped and had to wait until I got stormshield and a few other items together to actually outfit her so she could survive.

I only had a couple of difficult fights. But sometimes the monsters just stood there and got what was coming to them. (No really, for some reason, Thresh just stood there and didn't attack once, had something to do with the little torch thing between us.)

The Ancients were about as boring as this screenshot. Held down the mouse and had them in that little corner. Mercenary stood to the side plinking arrows while I smacked at them with my axe. Had to drink a few potions to keep energy shield going, but it probably wasn't necessary.

My hellforges were looking promising in Nightmare, but come Hell, it just decided to take a crap in my face.

With the way Venom Lord type enemies were bothering me, I was worried about lister, but he turned out to be a puppy. A puppy I had to draw him and his minions out one or two at a time and kill off at my leisure, but he didn't spawn physical immune so it wasn't a horrible fight. And the fight with Baal was boring itself.

At least I got to see some fun numbers with combat shrines along the way.

The character probably would've shined a bit more if I went into it with a plan, but instead I just started up a character and levelled her all willy-nilly. Next up will probably be a druid or a necromancer, whichever I feel like will be more fun(Probably the necromancer)

Oh well. Kind of a lame writeup, but I'm tired. I suppose one good thing about this sorceress was the fact that she couldn't handle being completely surrounded very well, and it taught me how to find choke points in wide open spaces like in most of Act 4 or the Canyon of the Magi. Sometimes it turned out being backed into a corner was a hell of a lot better strategy than running around an unexplored area to wake up even more monsters, even if it meant sacrificing a few potions and risking having ES be broken down or being put near death. There was SOME fun in the parts where I had to do a little thinking, but otherwise it was a very boring hold down the mouse button and go. At least the necro will be more involved with curses and such, even though he'll be attacking at worse speeds than the sorc.

Any questions? Comments? GGs?

Patriarch Breathuid(5 of 7) (Originally posted January 4, 2010)

What? Another finished char from Dash? And less than a year from his previous one?
I know. Insanity. I'm not sure what came over me!

Maybe it's the D2 itch?
No. No it's not. The only itch I have is a very personal one from a bit too much sweating and running around at the same time.

So what is it?
A druid. A fury druid, at that. Quite the standard build and all, which will be listed below.

#2 Breatharian
#3 Breathazon
#4 Breatheress

Patriarch Breathuid
Stats+Shapeshifting Tree
Stats+Summoning Tree

So yeah, he was your standard fury wolf. I realize his life is a bit "low" for a shifting druid, but you'll notice I pumped his str a bit. I was aiming for getting just enough str to push his LCS max damage over 10k, buuuut... I came up just short in the end. Oh well. It wasn't like the combination of Feral Rage and 18% Life Leech on equipment wasn't enough to keep him alive. Not to mention the whole shifting back to human form with 1 HP situation making it hard to die.

Regardless of how hard death was, the last stretch of playing I had a few in hell, oddly enough they were AFTER I lowered the players setting from 8 down to 3. Oh, right, I played on the following settings in hell:

Act 1: P8
Act 2: P3 up until Duriel, then P8 (lots of unleechables and PIs, waste of time to go higher than 3)
Act 3: P8
Act 4: P8 up until I got bored watching things die slow, then P3, P1 for Chaos Sanctuary until P8 Diablo
Act 5: P8 up until I realized I stil had it on P8 since fighting Diablo, which was around Crystalline Passage, then down to P3, and then P8 for the ancients(for lulz) and P1 for throne/minions/baal(because I was very bored)

I could've played on P8 the whole way through, but it would've taken a lot longer and come with minimal reward.

Even though he didn't quite cross that 10k max threshold, he still had PLENTY of damage, and plenty of being awesome. But playing this druid has shown me one thing.

Druids have everything going for them. Fast, high damage attack. Great hit recovery, insane leech through Feral Rage, recastable tanks, recastable minions that provide either huge life boosts or huge damage/ar boosts, great movement speed, and incredible attack rating for melee. This proves something I've been saying all along...

Liquid_Evil is a n00b
I mean he obsessively plays these druids, when anyone can clearly see they're a class that only noobs play. They're the most ezmode class I've ever played, even when not shifting. One day I hope he mans up and plays a real character one of these days, instead of just taking the easy road with a druid every time.

Alright... let's see... what else am I missing? Oh yeah, Mercenary was a Might Merc and wore a standard Reaper's + Ethereal Upped DShell + Guillaume's Face.

Breathuid's Gear
eBotD Zerker (Demon Limb on Switch)
Lance Guard(PDiamond)
Jalal's Mane(PDiamond)
Fortitude Archon Plate
Highlord's Wrath
Ravenfrost
Plague Touch
Bloodfist
Thundergod's Vigor
Gore Rider

All in all I did the same thing with him that I did with my enchantress. Finished putting points in skills and then assigned whatever I wanted. Gear was chosen and put in place by the end of nightmare and I didn't swap anything or look back since then. I could've made a few upgrades, and honestly TGods was getting on my nerves with the casting FoH on attackers and interrupting my ability to attack.

Oh, and about those deaths I had? One to Iron Maiden in act 4, one to trying to take on a room full of 15000000000000000000 Succubi throwing blood stars at me, and a few more to Iron Maiden in the throne, since apparently Oblivion Knights have x-ray vision binoculars that let them curse me from offscreen behind walls.

I also have a screenshot somewhere of him with a combat shrine on, giving him over 260k AR. Which is just silly, yet hilarious at the same time.

But I suppose that's it. Any questions? Comments? GGs?

And yes, this is quite possibly the laziest of my mat/pat threads to date. Blame it on the Guinness.
