Scythe Necro, anyone?

Scythe Necro, anyone?

I just realised that my last char found a load of nice-looking scythes - Grim Reaper, Soul Harvest, Athena's wrath, Grim's Burning Dead. So that made me think - if I can make a viable Necro build around Grim's, that would be worth several thousand style points and a huge boost to net-cred :D

Has anyone actually tried this? I have the feeling that the Fishymancer build can be easily adapted - i.e., load up with +to life items, run around with the skellies and the might merc, cast amp damage, harvest monsters' souls, you know.

Grim's Burning Dead
Grim Scythe
Two-Hand Damage: (72-84) To (168-196) (120-140 Avg)
Required Level: 45
Required Strength: 70
Required Dexterity: 70
Durability: 55
Base Weapon Speed: [-10]
+140-180% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Adds 131-232 Fire Damage
+3 To Necromancer Skill Levels
-50% Target Defense
+20% Enhanced Defense
+200-250 To Attack Rating (varies)
Fire Resist +45%
Requirements -50%
Attacker Takes Damage of 8
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.09 or later)

Perfect upgraded GsBD would do 112-319 (215.5 avg) damage. A little low if you think of doing something else than just looking cool wielding it :)

But what about making a Crescent Moon scythe (thresher) for your summon/meleemancer? That way you'd might even actually do something to the baddies (= static). Hmm... right. Add that to my neverending list of builds to do :(

Necromancers with scythes do look really cool, though, especially with a Bone Shield and Helm.

Necros can wield shields + Scythe?

Not at the same time, but you can put the shield in the other weapons lot. I had a shield and a bone wand with bonuses to my armor skill. Cast the armor then switch to the scythe, or if I ran out of mana while fighting and my cast armor was depleted, then switch back to the shield and wand and let my summoned creatures fight while I regain mana.

Once you have Amp, Melee Merc, max SkelMaster & max SkelWarriors anything is possible.

In 1.09 my Throwmancer's Skeletons were just buffers that occassionally died... 1.10 changed them into a lethal super army.

I'm trying this right now actually. He's my little Grim Reaper.

He is using Soul Harvest until he can use Grim's Burning Dead, and he looks so cool. I've got full Tancred's on him (the weapon on switch with a Bone Sheild) and he looks sooo cool).

He uses Bone Armor, Decrepify, Life Tap, Poison Nova, Poison Explosion, and Scythe goodness.

He owns ;)
