Running 2 instances on the same PC

I am not looking for hacks and not looking to discuss ambiguities. Just want to get that out of the way.

Since D2loader is fully bannable now, is there a 100% legitimate way to play 2 instances on the same PC?

I have 2 sets of 100% legitimate keys and I really would like to level up an Enchanter for my Strafer.

Yes.
You need:
1) Windows XP with "Fast User Switching" and admin access.
2) Open "User Accounts" (Control Panel) -> "Change the way users log on or off" and check on "Use Fast User Switching"
On each users use own Diablo with different cdkey.

I do this using vmware (vmware player, which is free, works well):
- get vmware player: http://www.vmware.com/download/player/ (vmware workstation is much better, but costs money)
- create a virtual machine, e.g. with vmware builder: http://www.vmxbuilder.com/
- install windows xp normally

Once windows is installed in the vmware virtual machine, it behaves exactly like a completely separate machine. In fact, you could run as many as 4 copies of D2 on a single PC. Don't try 5, b.net won't like it.

Tipp:
- if you have two instances of d2 installed on your harddisk (just remove the registry keys to install a second copy in another directory (i use d2a, d2b), then you can use them directly from vmware. D2 does not need an installation, it works very nice as a portable app.
- d2 running in a vmware instance is perfect for trading, because you can have a look on the browser and the d2 window at the same time.

Hi

You need fast user switching, for d2 you can create upto 4 accounts on your pc by using the 'user accounts' in control panel.

Install d2+lod on the first account, then make sure you update d2 on bnett.
What you need to do then is make a new folder on your harddrive (example .. D2user1 ) and cut/paste that install of d2 into that new folder.

Then just switch users and install d2+lod again and follow the above steps.

Battlenett will let you have 4 copys of the game running (of course there are ways to get around this but then you use 3rd party software).
