Roles of Madness. Mafia Thread

THE GAME HASN'T STARTED YET. I HAVE SOME FREE TIME SO I'M DOING ADMIN ON IT. IT IS SET TO START ON MONDAY

CURRENT STATUS: Roles sent
THE RULES

1) You do not talk about your role or any other relevant information concerning the game outside this thread.

2) If you post at night I will kill you, no matter what.

3) If you edit your post I will kill you (This includes editing for spelling mistakes)

4) If your role allows you to communicate with others during the night, please do so using only the quick topic provided in your PM

5) Once you're dead, stay that way. Dead people tell no tales, or in this case, dead people make no posts. Suck up your death and keep watching and rooting for your team. There's always the next round.

6) Every player gets one lynch vote during the day. Votes and unvotes need to be bolded . If your unvote isn't bold, it doesn't count. As long as i can read it and figure out ho you are voting for, I will count the vote. Obviously names that are grossly misspelled will not be counted. I'm also not going to take issue with names being case sensitive. You don't need to place a name next to unvote but it helps.

7) The required number of votes for a lynch is INT(X/2) + 1 where X is the number alive players. Once you reach this number nothing can save you. (To veterans: Only locks will be lynched, no majority only lynching) (Rounded up) Edit: X is the number of alive players, not half. Proof reading..yeah - RE

8) Never post anything in the thread that shouldn't be known to the town. Don't flame in the thread. If you have a problem with anything in the thread, please PM me and I'll do my best to handle it.

9) Any player may claim any role. I.E. Any player may claim to be something that they are not. The includes theme names.

10) Do not post any information sent to you in a pm. If you want to claim a role, don't copy paste the PM I sent you, you may paraphrase it.

11) I won't be telling you the starting roles.

12) Day lasts 48 hours and night lasts 24 hours.

13) Do not post at night or edit or I will kill you.

14) You will get mod killed if you are inactive (at least 1 contributive posts a day).

16) If you wish to ask me a question, ethier PM me, or write @RE: <<question>> in bold in a post, I will answer it to the best of my ability. Do not be offended if I do not answer questions at all, or to the extent you were after if probing on roles/game mechanics

17) On death (NK, Lynch or otherwise) roles may or maynot be revealed. This also has to do with the plot and game mechanics.

- Victory Conditions:

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.

Cult: You win when your numbers equal that of the rest town and nothing can prevent you from winning

Speical: See role PM for futher details.

Role madness notes:

1) Power Roles:
Role madness games means everyone has a power role, a power role is not a VT, I've tried to limit how little "quasi-power roles" exist but obviously for balance reasons not everyone can have an activated ability. There will be passive roles, choice roles, and triggered roles of varrying power in the game

2) Dreams: Unique to this game the mafia have the dreaming god ability, each night (Including the pregame night) they can pick an ability, dreams effect ethier the next night or day from when they're used. You will not be aware of it's effects until they happen, but the story may hint at whats going to happen.

3) Night actions: With role madness my inbox is going to get hammered, if its full and you need to send in a night action do 1 of two things, ethier wait, I'll be checking and clearing the inbox periodically. If you can not wait, email me the action at Rlyeh.exiled AT Gmail Dot Com with the subject of "Role Madness Night Action" and I'll check the account when I empty the pm box too.

Once each night you can choose a player to either stop their targeted ability them or force them to target you. Either way the other person will not be aware of this. (Specify which power you are using in your pm) (You can't roleblock triggered or passive effects)

Cult: You win when your numbers equal that of the rest town and nothing can prevent you from winning

3c Orc Warrior: You are an Orc Warrior, worshiper of the Dark One. Your mettle in combat is as fierce as your temper is short.
Each day as soon as a person reaches L-1 (1 vote off being lynched) you will passively hammer them unless you are already on their wagon, if you have a vote elsewhere you will automatically unvote to hammer them. The vote records will show the hammer vote as “the hammer” and if you were forced to unvote that will not be shown.

5c Dark Psion: You are the Dark Psion, worshiper of the Dark one. You have methods to cloud the judgment of other weaker minds.
Each night you may target a player, if you target an anti-town player that person becomes immune to investigation roles for the night, if you target a pro-town player they will appear to be guilty

Third Party (2)

6c
Assassin Guild Master (SK): You are the master of the assassin's guild and have taken this opportunity and distraction to kill as many people as you can, and if you happen to snuff a few idiot cultists along the way, the more the better.

Your training makes you resistant to damage but not invincible, a single NK attempt on you will instead wound you, you will recover to full strength at the end of the next night step, if you are NK'd again in the same or next night you will die.

You must kill every night (except the pregame night), failure to send in a target will result in a random target being chosen.

If you wish, you can self target:

Special Win Con: You're on your own, eliminate everyone for the win.

7c Missionary : Each Night you can give a Holy Ward to a player, they will be notified that received the item

Special Win Con: You win if all other alive players possess a Holy Ward while you are alive, you share in the factional victory. You are neutral and appear as such to investigation roles.


Town (14)


8c Gnome Shopkeeper: You are a gnome shopkeeper. On the night of your death your store ledger will be published indicating who visited your shop. This list will be alphabetical and no indication of what was done to you will be included.

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.


9c Gypsy Princess: You are the gypsy princess. Your mastery of tarrot cards allows you to intertwine the fates of others.
Each night you may pick 2 players, effects that would happen to one happens to the other and visa versa. Nobody else will be aware of the switch happening.Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.

(10C)
Faith Healer: You are the Faith Healer. Medical man
Each night you can target a person to make night kill immune for that night. You may target yourself, but you can not target the same person two nights in a row.
NB: This role 100% works. It is not the 50% doctor that shares the same name.

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.

(AS) Blessed Child:
You are a blessed child, nothing bad every happens to you. If you are targeted with an action, instead that action will be redirected to a random player. The person preforming the action will not be aware of this however.

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.



2s Monk: You are a monk. Your reading into the dark arts allows you to identify them easier
Each night you may target 1 person to learn if they're alignment

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.



3s Necromage: You are necromage, channeler of dead spirits.
You have a 1 shot ability of each activated ability of dead characters, you may only use 1 ability each night. If the dead character had an expended X-shot ability, you will gain that power but with 0 charges.
Each day and each night you will receive a PM of powers you have and which ones have been used.

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.

4s Rouge : You are a rogue, stealth is your key weapon.

Each night you can ethier track a target or watch a target. Tracking someone will inform you of who they target, whilst watching will inform you of who targets them. Ethier way no clue to who did what to them will be given

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.

5s Paladin: You are the righteous Paladin, a beacon of justice.
Each day you may cast detect evil. You may target a player (by pming me) to learn their alignment. (You get the result as soon as you preform the task [allowing time for me to see it], that is you don't have to wait until end of phase for the result)

6s Fighter:
You are a battle hardened fighter, and you have the scars to prove it.
If you're going to die, you'll take someone down with you. If you are lynched the locking voter will suffer your wrath on the way to the gallows.
If you are Night killed successfully you will night kill each player who preformed a successful night kill on you that night.

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.

7s Martyr: You are the Matryr, what greater privlege is there than dying to stop evil?
Each night you may redirect all other night actions from a target to yourself. No-one else will be aware of this redirection

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.


8s Ranger: You are the Ranger, your aim with a bow can stab the wings off a fly from 900 paces.
You have a 1 shot ability to kill a player of your choice at night.

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.


9s Silver Seraph: You are a silver seraph, a creature native to the astral planes. Your job is protect very important mortals.

You have the 1 shot ability to target a player, for the rest of the game, as long as you're alive that player can't be killed except by being lynched. The other player will not be aware of this celestrial protection

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.

(10S) Power Thief: You are the power thief, you trained for years to steal the abilities of other men.

Each night you may swap your role with a target, this will not change your alignment, or the targets alignment. You will receive a modified version of your new role PM

Pro-town: You win when all anti-town threats are dead.


Deva: You are a Deva, a being that has lived 1000 life times, and has found a way to transend death. When you are dead, instead of going to the end game thread, you may still post in the game thread as though you were alive, you have no vote though, and are considered dead for all other purposes. You may at your request gain entrance to the dead thread at any time, doing so loses your right to post in the game thread for the rest of the game, the other players will be made aware that you've passed on.

Claiming this power (or tree stump, or something similar) will cause you to commit suicide. (If in doubt pm me)


(Sorry for the unformatted goodness :/)

Edit: In end game stuff you'll see things like As and 4C or 2H on players and roles, they're the cards used to represent the player/role. I took all the red and all the black cards (well 21 of each) from a deck and asigned cards to roles players, shuffled both decks and drew the top ones in pairs to randomise roles.

It is currently still the pregame. The Mafia can use thier thread to talk.

Night abilities apart from the mafias dream can not be used on this night.

GAME START!

In the town of Sunopal, a dark pressence could be felt, that and the roiling thunderclouds above the city kind of suggest some evil is at work. Heroes and adventurers from the land gathered in the town to root out the cause of evil, the Cult of The Dark One, but the evil god had a trick up his sleeve, he blinded the heroes, so they could no longer tell friend from foe. Working though his cult he will slowly elimiate all who stand before him to gain power needed to lay waste to the entire world. Can the heroes use their powers and wits to uncover the identity of thier foes in time?

It is now Day 1, The day will last 48 Hours.

21 Players alive, it currently takes 12 votes to lynch.

In other news, I can't login to the forums at work atm because mcafee "trusted source" thinks that threads have a virus (the one that rush removed last week). This means I probably wont be hyperactive like normal :D.

Some thoughts on the game. What do people think about not lynching day 1. I know common theory is that you lynch every day, but given most people have a power role and we have almost no information, would it be best to wait until D2 for a lynch (that way we hopefully have more information from Deaths / power role useage)?

I guess it all depends on how this dream thing works ......
 
I Think it's a solid suggestion, but I'm not sure. Shouldn't the town use all the chances they have to try andlynch mafia?

I'm pretty darn certain Cakes is mafia, so let's lynch him!

nah, I'm usually in the favor of always lynching. First of all because I've read posts from smart people that says it's a good idea, second of all because no lynch days are boring.

If somebody comes up with some awesome argument to why we shouldn't lynch, I'd most likely be willing to listen, though.

My thoughts exactly! I remember reading from time to time, posts of pretty smart people saying the town will benefit from lynching every day. Something about statistics and whatnot. Besides lynching can also help give some extra info that just waiting around for a night kill and/or trying to guess at who used which powers won't.

Well yea, but town has a lot more players than mafia side does, so they can afford to lynch someone. That way they town can start searching for clues, like who voted, who didn't, when did they vote (very early/very late), who locked the vote etc, as well as reading through the conversations and see if someone slipped up. Usually people tend to find some nice tidbits of info in there, and honestly I've not managed to do that before myself. At least I know my profession won't be private detector! :jig: j/k lol. >_>

Yeah, but technically so will the odds be for the entire game. And if we decide now, that we won't lynch anybody, we won't get to see any posts/vote patterns/etc. that we can use tomorrow and later in the fame. I think that's the essense of it (I think). Also, if we go with a no lynch, I don't see the point in deciding for it this early - IMO it would be a lot better to let the day go on and actually see some posts from people.

Also, no lynch is boring. Did I mention that already? Well, no lynch is boring.

Completely agree FoE, which is one thing I didn't think of at the time. Just agreeing to a no lynch right now gives no incentive to really post, and even if we do manage to do some scum hunting, there really isn't any real threat behind it. And some people (especially newer guys) tend to slip up more under pressure.

Or maybe that's just me. :tongue:

I agree that no lynch is boring, I was curious as to how it all worked out. I know normally lynching is good, but I was wondering how it would work with every having power roles. Anyway it was just a thought as a mafia noob :D
