Re: Diabloii.net trade moderators
I've been a member of dii.net for quite a few years now, and a long time reader/fan even before I registered. I used to play diablo a fair bit, and I frequently used dii.net to conduct trades. But with the start of the new ladder, I decided to start playing again with some friends only to notice something..
This site and community has changed entirely. I'm not sure why, but for some reason your trade forums have turned into something that I don't even recognize.
I'd almost say that they're unpostable in now. I'm not making this thread because I was banned or warned for posting a previous thread, but merely observing what I see around me. I'm aware that this isn't my website, and of course I agree to forum rules by using this message board. I understand that there are legit reasons for refusing to host trades of banned items, as dii.net has always discouraged hacking/dupes.
The problem, however, is now upon looking at your trade forums, it isn't uncommon to see page after page after page of locked threads. People are given temp bans for a single bump. And now, in what is quite possibly the most absurd rule I've ever heard of, you're threatened with a perm ban for conducting a trade OUTSIDE of the forum that you posted on because they can't be "monitored". People are being banned/warned..because somebody whispers them in game wanting to bid on one of their offers.
Not because they tried to ask about hacks, not because they tried to trade a duped item..but rather, because they simply want to conduct their business on somewhere other than this site? Furthermore, you're threatened with a ban if your trades are found on another site as well. I can't believe that this is what this site has turned into. While I'm aware that your concern is protecting the members who bid on items here and ensuring that offers aren't scams, it's almost seems as these rules are designed to punish someone who happens to get a better offer from another source.
Some of these rules are even just downright hypocritical, such as the fact that you allow perming/leveling "services" to be "traded", but not the flat out trading of accounts, since that would lead to "scams regarding password recovery" - even though you're still swapping passwords for any of those services which could lead to stolen items at a future date.
I guess things are just funny because..when I posted frequently here there was very little enforcement of the rules, and yet, nobody seemed to have a problem. I mean, sure if you bumped your thread 20 times in a single day you'd be warned/banned, but most people were respectful enough and you didn't see that. Likewise, you also didn't have people being temp banned over a single edit to their post without waiting for 12 hours.. I guess things were just more relaxed, and as such the atmosphere seemed much more enjoyable.
The purpose of my thread wasn't to flame the moderators of the trade forums, as I know that they do dedicate a large portion of their time to keeping things in order and that there are plenty of threads that do need to be moderated. I was just simply making an observation based on how much this site has changed and why I'm hesitant to make a post in the trade forums for fear of violating one of your pages upon pages of new ever changing rules.
