Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

I think going with the four main mafia plus one regular Serial Killer would have been better. Then change the Coroners as below plus remove the backup though still masoned and maybe change the Bodyguard to a Jailkeeper. Poison then being allowed to ignore JK saves, with the possibility of one more mafia member gaining the poison NK ability. Including a few different flavors of vanilla townie might have been a good change to the setup. It seemed there was a fair amount of soft claiming based on that.

I had expected they’re be more bodies on the ground throughout the game than there were. Leo was the first kidnap victim and didn’t have to be investigated. The second and third times, both the mafia and Krazeyivan targeted the same person. Laarz didn’t last long enough to make any vigiliante attempts. Then there were the two doc saves. So ThunderCat didn’t have to make too much of a choice on who to investigate on each day.

Originally more of the roles had percent based abilities. The Coroner ended up being the only role that still had a percent activation chance. If I were to use the role again, I’d change the Standard Investigation to give just the target’s alignment. Or have it give role + alignment and give the mafia fake claim names. Thorough I’d change the action to take two day/nights to complete, but give alignment, full role information on abilities, and half to all of the actions. I was considering giving the coroner more exact descriptions for how the players died, but decided the role was getting more than enough information already.

Sathoris’s Manipulation ignore ability ended up being almost useless since the bus driver was gone the first day and the roleblocker never made it into the lineup.

I’m not sure if the 16 day posts soft limit in the mafia QT was restrictive enough. I think a 12 hard limit would have been better.

I think giving Noodle (the traitor) one mafia player name might have been better than giving him none.

Framing ended up having little effect on the game since Laarz died the second night and Marahumm only ended up getting two investigations off. The electrical issues on the 2nd day was Marahumm getting roleblocked. Maybe just as well that it didn't since the game was so close.

I gave the Mad Scientist the item ability to help balance out his less frequent kills. But I wanted to give him an ability that had a trade-off. So kits could be given to any player regardless of alignment and the kits could even be used against him. He himself couldn’t use the kits, they had to be given and his target was not told from whom he received the item. I guess I should have stated somewhere early on that items could be held by any alignment. He had investigation immunity as well but could be framed just like anyone else. Perhaps, I should have added an FBI agent that could find him.

His kidnapping ability would ignore doctor protects and bulletproof, but still be susceptible to the bodyguard and his target being watched. As well as having his captive freed should he be lynched or killed on the following day/night.
Other thoughts on the game:

I suspected this would be a close game, but wasn’t sure what I should do after the two Mod-kills. At first I though switching Noodle to a vanilla role would work. But I then reconsidered the idea after examining the amount of power roles still in play for the town. So Noodle ended up being Pro-Town for 13 hours.

I’m not sure how Bad Ash got away with his slip of Feysal’s role being common knowledge before ThunderCat had investigated his body.

For most of the game, the mafia team didn’t guess that Noodle might be the traitor. Bad Ash was more concerned that Noodle might out him as mafia than to suspect him as the traitor. It wasn’t until after Noodle was locked that Bad Ash figured it out.

Here’s the City Slicker Role PM, followed by Valhauros’s claim. Should I have allowed his claim to stand without a mod-kill?
---
You are the City Slicker, Pro-Town.
You’ve come to Ravenwood Retreat for a relaxing vacation in the countryside.

You have only your wits to help you.

You win when all anti-town threats have been eliminated and at least one Pro-Town player lives.
---

Valhauros claim post:
I'm the City Slicker (Pro-Town). "You have only your wits to help you".

I’m not sure how to rate the accelerated start mechanic. There seemed to be a little bit more vote activity in the start of day than usual. I’m not sure if that made up for the hassle and confusion it caused. I’m curious to what Feysal’s opinion is on this.

Should the game be paused or just extended on Saturday’s in the future? It seems that most people will be online for some time on both Friday and Sunday. However, Saturday seems to have overall low player activity.

At least for this game, the mafia never wanted to cheat with their votes. Both times there were invalid votes they had wanted the votes to count. So I’m not sure that being able to cheat with the votes is a necessary feature.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Congrats to the town. I only wished Krazey got lynched a day earlier, things may have ended differently.

Krazey, after the mafia died we were all convinced you had it easy street and would have won the game. Cal had that full proof aliby though on night 2 with me targeting TC, and I think that sealed it for you.

My first time playing as mafia, and I had fun being evil! sorry for the deception all. Ankeli, you were a darn thorn in my side! I should have killed you off sooner.

here's the QT for the mafia, you all have fun reading about how sneaky we were!

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

I honestly think the 4pm deadline for days and nights was what caused a lot of no-lynches. It's right around the time for people in the US to be getting off of work, and is right around the time people are going to bed in Europe I believe.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

That mafia QT thread is very interesting and enlightening to read. Poor Bad Ash, he tried so hard. Admittedly he made an amazing case against me for being the SK; so good, I almost started believing it myself and that somehow Uraj just forgot to mention it to me.

What I find most hilarious is this little snippet:
Sathoris said:
Woops lol memory's failed me. Botched up the claim. For some reason I posted watcher and went with that. ****. Can't backpeddle now. Can't reclaim tracker and got the results I posted.

I lost track (pun!) the number of times I had to re-explain how my role works, and that I was playing a watcher, not a tracker.

Wonderful game, thank you everyone for making it a memorable first. I had tons of fun.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Asrrin(Forger) -- Redirect(2nd shot) Zarniwoop to “CoolBadGuy” CoolguyBad

Huh? Not sure what you meant about the "CoolBadGuy" part.

It is hilarious that CgB protected Ivan! He's gonna feel pretty awkward!

Haha Techno, forgot I did that! It's alright, we Krazey managed to get a kill on Asrrin and everyone figured him to be SK anyways, even you guys=P

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Huh? Not sure what you meant about the "CoolBadGuy" part.

That was just a humorous misspelling on Asrrin's part when he sent the action in. Or at least I thought it humorous. Considering the amount of times his name was misspelled this game.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

oh whoops, I spelled you name wrong! yeah, I hate it when people spell mine wrong, they always somehow think there is an extra "s" in there!

Cal, if I didn't know any better I'd say you were a veteran the way you played this game. It was a mistake to keep you alive! Congrats on the win.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Ditto congrats to the town! And congrats to the new guys both being alive at the end victorious!! I am green with envy (and I'm sure Val is too) ! :D I agree Cal, you played like a pro. I was pushing to keep you guys alive since I thought newbness was beneficial to us, but about halfway through, I was thinking "Damn, we should have took out Cal! He's sharp!"

There were a lot of clever mechanics that were made moot with early deaths. Asrrin (Assrin? lol!) would have been much more awesome if Mara and Laarz had lived longer, and with a Vigi, this game would have been more interesting too if Laarz had lived longer.

On Val's modkill, *I* probably wouldn't have killed him, but with the "wits" quote, that is really pushing it and it was technically within rights to kill him for it. I'm just ultra lenient. :D

It would have kept the game a bit more confusing and paranoid if everyone knew that anyone could have an item. That would have benefited mafia the most I think though. And it may have been useful for the Traitor to know something or other to drop hints for recruitment. We were totally hosed by the Noodle thing. The thought never even entered our mind, we were just like "Noodle is lynch-bait. Bandwagon. Profit."

It's surprising how dead Saturdays are, and a later start/end time would have helped me tremendously! I would have been able to easily participate in end-day discussion and voting is it was more like 8-9pm EST. Instead I missed one vote, almost missed 2 others, and had to generally rush around.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Well, I got 2 out of 3 right.
Like I mentioned in the dead QT thread, too bad Sathoris wasn't town, I would have gave him a hat to chew on for the next game after my lynch.
Congratulations to us town. However, reading what powers the mafia had, and their numbers, I'm surprised the town won.

Nice work there Uraj,[Modesty off]you might even have a chance to be one of the big boys when it comes to hosting :) [Modesty on]

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Yeahh, I'm gonna say the same thing here aswell TC. You messed up your claim so bad you deserved to be lynched no matter what. You should eat your own hat for suggesting others should when you survived the way you did.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

A quick note to say I will never make that claim again.

I just got so irritated with the town's inability to see how filthy sathoris and asrrin were that I just put some stank on it.

From now on, I won't use that claim again. In fact, I'll add it to my rules the next time I mod a game.

I'm glad to see I guessed correctly on the last vote.

Very good game Uraj. Memorable.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Zarni, what ever would happen if you were given a role that forced you to lie, as in an actual post restriction?

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Great job Uraj, If I had lived alittle longer I would have killed either Ankeli or Sathoris, i had even flipped a coin to decide, it would have been sath if only i had lived longer, but still a fun game thanks Uraj:)

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Zarni, what ever would happen if you were given a role that forced you to lie, as in an actual post restriction?

I would lie.

I've misled in mafia games, but I'm the type of player that has to remind myself that I'm actually anti-town when I am.

Heck, when I was the cult in the previous game and won, I had to continually remind myself - oh yes, I'm not pulling for a town win here.

Numerous games ago, I said I was done with the "I am going to go so over top with my claim that you're going to believe me" claim method. Many of you have mentioned and I agree, its not really fair to those that play really scummy and don't have the option. But, when given the choice, I always go with speaking honestly because even in a mafia game, history matters.

But, Sathoris just infuriated me to the point where I strapped one on and said "its go time (censored)". It was wrong and I apologize for doing it.

From now on, I'll continue to play the way I do, but if I'm hemmed in by scum, I'll either think of a way out or I'll mentally congratulate them and berate the sheep-like town for listening to obvious hogwash.

Huh? The game is over? I've been totally disconnected with what was going on... Stopped reading new posts three weeks ago, focused on games I was still alive in.

And town won? So miracles do happen. When this bunch lynched the cop instead of obvscum TC, I gave up hope.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Very nice game Uraj.

For the most part, I loved the roles. It's great to see watchers/trackers. The multi-faceted approach to the coroner was fantastic. I'm glad to see mafia have some abilities.

That Mad Scientist role though... the mafiascum wiki was way off. It took the even/odd day dichotomy of the SK and a lucky N2 to catch Ivan.

Val's mod kill was the correct decision in my opinion. Val directly quoted an entire sentence word for word, letter by letter and punctuation by punctuation. Other parts of the claim changed 'You' to 'I' and added some parentheses. Omitting two sentences shouldn't qualify for not posting a mod PM.

Not sure what the deal with Saturday's are. Some games (Saw) see a flurry of activity on Saturday while others are a graveyard. Might be a fall/winter vs spring/summer kind of thing.

As I said in thoughts section, I'm curious what you thought of the accelerated start mechanic in this game. Did it help much, if any, in your opinion?
