I have finished off Andariel twice and got some decent rares. Got a defiance merc with a rare trident I found and killed Radament as well. I am level 20 now and ready to go and get the cube. Open slots left: boots, belt.

I fixed jiansonz into the code as well.

Now I was wondering if I get the malus will that count as a rare weapon if I don't want it to? Because I'ld like to keep my starter staff until I have to give it up. As I havn't found any rare weapons yet.

Also, we are only allowed 1 craft in nightmare and one in hell. No crafts in normal. Could I use my nightmare craft in normal if I wanted to get the best chance at a desirable alvl.

Got my two Andy kills in... a couple useful items, but nothing special. My equipment slots are all full, except for amulet and ring#2. But mostly, Rare-Skunk's shiny equipment is all gloss and no quality. So it goes.

SCORING CLARIFICATION:
Yes, please count the WP in each town for a point. Consider it a bonus for getting through the previous act.

Glad everyone seems to be having fun!

Just to make sure everyone plays hard: the prize stash contains (among several hundred other things) a particularly desirable belt, a splendiferous orb, and a very, very ugly green hat :D And I still have 23 runs to go...

1. The malus does not count as a rare weapon (it isn't, it's unique). However, if you wish to use it, you may. You certainly are not required to, however.

2. No crafting in normal. Just NM and Hell.

The madness continues! Promptly after reaching lvl 30 I put a point in valk, which has helped quite a bit so far. Killed mephy twice, one the way to him the first time I found a cats eye ammy, too bad I cant use it :( Second run gave me a new bow, but suprisingly the most rewarding thing to kill has been the witch doctor in the flayer dungeon. I dont know if I will go through A4 tonight or call it quits. Just wondering, but has anyone found any rare jewels or any drop dead awesome rares?

Once I hit level 18 in the Inner Cloister, I popped my players down to 1 and killed Andy twice and got the cube and the Marsh WP. I plan on finishing A3 by tomorrow. I'm looking pretty good, a little jaundiced, with everything yellow and all. I've got just about everything filled, minus headgear for my merc and myself, but at the moment, I really don't need it. I really haven't had any NDE's, but I did give myself a scare when I accidentally sent 12 teeth off at a wall of beetles and I saw a wall of lightning coming at me. *flashbacks to death in survivor tourney*

I haven't found anything good really, though I've been lucky to roll faster cast on two of my items and have hit the 13 fpa breakpoint. Silly Necros cast so sloooooow.

My glittering freezealot has battled to the forgotten tower with the help of his lvl 5 rogue companion - still havent found any armour which is becoming more dangerous but i did find a very nice bow for my merc:

Killed Duriel twice, he dropped me 30% Chance Guards and a pair of Vidala Boots. Couple rares, but no use of them. I got the first WP in Act III and also did the +20 life quest as well.... almost 400 life.

Act II was easy, those lightning bastards are the worst though..

Had some bad luck with rares so far. Namely, I haven't found many. First weapon was throwing daggers in the Den of Evil. Not too bad. Starting as a sorc really sucks. Blood Raven was a very long battle of running around and casting firebolts. Got lucky in the mausoleum and scored a rare hunter's bow for a rogue merc. Found a rare Bardiche,Trident, quilted armour, cap and skull cap somewhere in the open fields of Act 1. Bardiche I kept for myself, Trident would be later used by act 2 merc. Gambled a belt on the way to Andariel, because no yellow belts of any kind were showing up and having only one row of potions resulted in way too many near-death experiences.

Andariel proved a little tougher than expected, as I was lower in level than I usually am when facing her with my other characters. Eventually it came to running away like a scared little girl with Blaze activated. Poor rogue merc got toasted. I'd expected that, and had stripped her of everything but the bow. I didn't bother reviving her. Andariel dropped a rare chainmail, boots and amulet which I'm still wearing.

AR started proving a serious problem in Act Two, resulting in some points into dex and the slow progression into a spellcaster. Hired a Prayer merc, which has made hardcore life a bit easier. The Staff of Kings has proven a valuable weapon, and the newly made Horadric Staff also, and a point in Enchant has helped with the AR problem. Now at the entrance of the palace. Planning on spending some time levelling and gathering items in the Arcane Sanctuary. Desperately need mana to maintain firebolts and frost novas.

Duriels 2 deaths produced 2 useable rares, a shield & a jewel, from a total of 4. I had a close call in the durance during the 1st kill, so I grabbed the golden bird & leveled before heading back for round 2.

At the end of Day 1 I have the bird, the eye & the spider WP. My merc & I are both running around in leather armor & I am still stuck using the Cain quest ring.(+40 AR) I'm sure Ormus will find a way to make me miss this ring.(Wow, light radius & stamina regen on the same ring! Are you sure you can part with it Ormus? All I did was trek through a demon infested forest to save your town. Look, could you at least throw in a pair of gloves?)

Well, that's it for me. Elolroel got hit by a champion ghoul on Catacombs 3 and became unable to move (again), and very quickly used up her whole two healing potions (no belt) and died. Really sucky performance, but oh well, that's how it goes.

Fenris, the budding RabidFury Wolf, is taking it slow. This was a hard time until Fenris found a rare Axe (and then a rare bardiche) and was able to lose his 1 to 6 damage club. Still, the only slots I have filled are armor, helm, weapon and switch weapon.

I decided to go ahead through act 4, not very hard once immolation arrow finally became useful. Found a new rare armor and bow for me. Diablo and his stingyness didnt drop anything :mad:
I'm done for today, and probably most of this week :(, but maybe I will have a little time on wednesday, who knows
Nice jewels Reid, I still have to find some, but now I dont use my socketed armor. Can I use the ort from the hellforge to put in armor?

Lol I died. I got swarmed by 2 boss packs. Those demon-things who spurts lightning balls out of their mouths and a bunch of devilkin peeps+shaman. Drank 2 rejuvz and 2 light healing. Then died.

Yeah, it's been really damn slow going for Patsy. He started off from the rouge camp a-punchin and kickin till he landed a rare sword (yar!) at bishi, and from there has had very modest success in his item finding: q. armor, dirk and l. shield.

Being lvl 13 and knocking on andy's door, he'll soon be getting a change of scene. And leap attack isn't all that far off... :teeth:

I have now taken CrossCheck as far as the inner cloister. The one thing about the crossbow is that it does do decent damage for a ranged weapon, and using MA I at least don't ever have to worry about bolts. I sure wish it were a few frames faster though, or that I had some knockback... I am beginning to think about changing the build a bit for some multishot, which would be nice with some knockback. Guess I'll play that one as it comes.

Anyway, she has found a rare ring, boots and sm shield, but still no gloves, armour or ammy. I reread the rules and realize I can gamble a weapon for my rogue merc without worrying about losing that slot when I change to act ii merc. The merc has nothing at all equipped right now.

I have decided to gamble items for the different slots as soon as they can produce end-game worthy items. All Freddie could ever want on gloves can spawn already at affix level 18, so I started gambling Leather Gloves at level 20. I gambled an awful lot of them and finally at level 24, I scored:

Corpse Knuckle
Leather Gloves
Defense: 4
+11% Enhanced Defense
+11 to Attack Rating
Lightning Resist +28%
25% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
Level 1 Weaken (22/22 Charges)

Unlikely to be replaced with anything for a long time (and a fitting name for a necromancer, eh? :) ).

Regular Boots have been next (the big resist prefixes kick in at alvl 25). Many many pairs, some equal to the gloves but I want better. At least 20% MF AND at least one resist over 30%, preferrably with some Faster run, too. BTW, boots is the only item slot that is still empty.


Andariel wasn´t much trouble. Even on /p8, she didn´t take to long to kill herself punching the golem while IMed.

I hired a Prayer merc. That has proven to be a solid choice for now. The Prayer keeps the entire party (6 members as of now) healthy. The merc´s weapon is pretty old (Trident, found back in the Jail) but with the added support of the rest of the team we still dominate, especially when a good Iron Golem is present. When I first reached lvl 24, I made one from an ethereal rare Cestus. That golem performed very well, survived all the way from Far Oasis to Tal´s third tomb, where a Spectral Hit Gorebelly pack and a multitude of Apparitions killed him. 382 life! That´s one tough little machine...

When I wanted to make another one, I made a mistake. I don´t have a hotkey for iron golem, so I intended to open up the quick skill meny and select the skill, instead I opened the skill tree and put another point into IG! :rant: Damn, what a waste! But I think I have enough skill points to be able to live with that mistake. From now on, I´ll spend my skill points right when I get them...

Duriel suffered the same fate as Andariel (Iron Maiden and a whole army of Clay Golems). I had brought three cold mages into his lair. Keeping Duriel chilled gave me more time when things got a little out of hand. More than once, Freddie had to run from Duriel and place a golem between them to attract his attention. Eventually the merc and two of the mages got killed, but the third one survived and victory was ours.


We have decent gear overall. Durga the merc has a lightning/cold resist Scale Mail with 2 sockets. Any rare MF jewel (or topaz from Hellforge) will go here. I have still not seen any rare wand or necro head.

When Durga got blocked in a doorway and I didn´t have an Iron Golem (only Clay) I noticed that the mages can actually kill stuff on their own. Not fast, but that´s not strange considering I have only 3 of them and the Mastery isn´t so high yet.

BTW, there is no other build I can think of that will benefit more from +to all skills than this type of necromancer that uses several skills from all trees. +8 necro skills is the maximum you can get from rares, but that´s unlikely, and only for the very late game. +(4-5) is a reasonable goal for mid-NM.

I finally found some armour around lvl 15 and after that a targe so all was fine and dandy - once i hit lvl 18 and got a point into holy freeze it was players 1 all the way to andy who dropped a few rares on my two runs (of which i got some boots and a ring from) but this drop caught my eye:
