Phoenix strike and freezing

I am making a MA assassin and im considering maxing phoenix strike to freeze for crowd control. Do more points in phoenix strike freeze target longer the more points i have invested, or no? Is PS worth maxing? thanks in advance

Yes, more points in phoenix strike does increase the freeze duration (if i remember correctly). There's been previous threads that discussed this in more detail; try doing a search for "phoenix strike" on this forum and see what comes up.

PS is worth maxing, but only if you decide to build your assassin around it, since you'll want to max atleast one of its synergies as well. Typically you DON'T want to max the cold synergy; the damage is less than the other two. Lightning is really good, though a tad tricky to release consistently. Fire is good too, and easier to release.

Hope this helps :)

More points in PS increases freeze duration. More points in the BoI synergy do not increase the PS freeze, just the damage.

And everything FF said is dead-on.

I'm on the PS bandwagon, with maxed the BoI synergy. I'm doing around 900-1000 damage per shard (which is not to shabby but not elite by any stretch). The tricks that seem to work well with this variant is to have a shadow master along for the ride along with a well-equiped barb merc. The freeze effect sets up the pins and your party of 3 commence the knockdown. The barb merc is a very active buddy with the right equipment and he'll knock down two or three frozen foes per second. It seems that there is a minor explosion/pop when he kills a frozen monster and I often see more than one go down per blow. Occasional Cloak of Shadows helps alot too. I built this character because I collected the whole Nat's set and I wanted to see how well PS worked in the patch.

I mix up the finishing moves between DF and DC. I'm at level 79 and I'm still having survival issues in hell. I'll be found hugging paladin aura's or working my way through a mob behind a nec army, using his lower resist curse as a damage booster. My barb merc casts an occasional weaken with his sword which helps when I'm alone.

Point of the post - The cold end of PS works fine for a careful player. The freezing effect is one of the longest in the game allowing all us multi-hotkey assassins to drop CoS, DS, and recharge the PS before the monster pack wakes up.
