So they changed the DLLs and the exes. Storm.dll has been changed too, which is interesting (Storm is what is used to map out the MPQs).

None of the MPQs have been changed, so no items have been changed. They could potentially have changed the D2S files, but it seems very unlikely. It would be difficult to change anything major without changing the mpq files.

RRM and RWM should work fine.

You will need a new D2Gfx.dll.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

I know this is a longshot, but is it possible they added in certain things without mentioning them? More specifically, has anyone tried to either do the Tristram event or create a ladder only runeword without RWM?

I know it's probably just wishful thinking, but I just can't believe how much a slap in the face this patch was, considering they had those long series of "what would you like in a new patch" threads a while back.

I know this site had some of those threads, but were there any on the official Blizzard forums? Don't confuse Dii.net with the official sites, we don't have any real input as to what Blizzard decides.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

So the new D2Gfx. dll does what? Allow multiple instances?

Also does it mean we don't need a glide wrapper anymore?

<Not techy here.

Sorry, I realized afterwards I should have clarified. Yes, the forums over at Blizzard's website had multiple threads started by moderators asking for people's input on what they would like to see in a future patch, if blizzard theoretically ever released one.

As likely as not, they were looking for input on some future product and simply didn't want to reveal too much.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

If only.

1.11 and 1.12 are identical in terms of gameplay, so why even differentiate between the two?
to get you to spell it out...

are you saying that the game can't differentiate between characters that are 1.11 or 1.12?

Re: Patch 1.12 released

I'm a bit worried about patching.

If I patch I wont be able to trade with 1.11b
If I don't patch I wont be able to trade with 1.12

Re: Patch 1.12 released

For now that remains to be decided Bassen. Best would be to give that a little time/discussion.

Hmm, phylosofical question. Should we even call this a patch?

Simplicity.

I appreciate your point RTB, I really do.

The mantra here has always been "don't move things backwards". To make that "don't move things backwards except those two versions" would be difficult for people to understand. Simple answer "don't move things backwards".

Frankly if this is just a no-cd patch then I don't see the need to upgrade. We'll see the uptake in the next few days.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

Speaking of upgrading/not upgrading: Which patches are worth having available for play?

Re: Patch 1.12 released

Define worth having... Basically all of the patches have something special to offer. The most common non-1.11b patches people use are 1.07, 1.10a, and 1.10s. There's some pretty nifty stuff available in 1.08 too, but people tend to shy away because of the buggy MF.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

Interesting that this 'patch' is 1.12a
Blizzard have never done an 'a' patch on D2 before always 1.xx then gone to 1.xxb and so on ( 1.09 also had b c and d as most of you will know) I guess I am looking for anything that suggests there is more to come, ( I really wanted the flying parrots fixed in LK ) but as has been said most games this old have no support at all, the arreat summit even has some recent updates, D3 announced at WWI ??????

Re: Patch 1.12 released

I'm with RTB on this point (yeah, I know it's not up for discussion, but has that ever stopped me before? :D ), it really *is* the same patch. They didn't even take time out to fix fangskin, griswold or any number of simple .txt problems. Lazy bums.

It's not simplicity anyway, because now the 1.12'ers won't be able to trade with the 1.11'ers if you set it up that way which I assume is what you mean.

And anyway, it isn't possible to move items backwards. And it isn't moving items backwards. It's moving them sideways, if anything.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

I really really do understand what you're saying Si and RTB. But let's be honest; 1.12 is a No CD patch. I already run without the CD; mounted on a virtual drive (I can PM this to anyone who want it but you need the original disks).

Please look at the bigger picture here.

We look at trade/MP. The SPF has always been very strict about cross-taint (vanilla/modded) and versions (never move things backwards).

It would have been so much easier if Blizzard called this 1.11c. But they didn't. So we are in this position.

EDIT:
I'm going to have a think about the mechanics of this and chat with SirP. But right now. They're separate.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

It wouldn't have been any different if they called it 1.11c, moving things from 1.11c --> 1.11b is the same logically as it is from 1.12 --> 1.11b. I haven't upgraded, I might get around to it when I'm not busy, but it's not like I use the CD anyways... this honestly isn't a patch, and one (obvious) exception to an (obvious) rule of not moving things backwards isn't really that complicated.

Re: Patch 1.12 released

If we knew with any certainty that this would be the last patch, I'd say 1.12 = 1.11b. But, we don't. If 1.13(x) is released, and has significant changes, then the trading and MP'ing becomes complicated as Thyiad indicates. I can easily see people (especially new folks) getting confused between 1.12 = 1.11b but 1.13 does not equal 1.12 and therefore not 1.11b and 1.10a does not equal 1.10s even though they both say 1.10 and 1.09 does not equal yadayadayada.

IMO, 1.11b does not equal 1.12. If you feel you need to play w/o a CD, feel free to patch, but don't expect to sell your 1.12 tainted items to me and please stay out of my 1.11b MP games.

Tainted even? All because of a no-CD patch with a Rosetta fix. :scratchhead: Not trying to be antagonistic, but I haven't seen evidence of anything that would taint 1.11b, but that's just me.

Edit: this one is confusing, but I'll go along with whatever the SPF's mods decide, of course. Might've shot myself in the foot for MP games, but I took the plunge and upgraded so I wouldn't have to use the CD.
