I'm going to a university about 20 miles or so away, commuting, and she is going to a community college about 7 miles away (can't live at a community college, hence community...)

If they're gonna be going away, you're actually not terribly far away and might have a decent chance as a result.

At the same time, there's the issue of her meeting new college people.
