OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Which level are you easyG? I would like to MP with you, if you don't my crank-powered PC that crashs every two loading screens on act 3 :badteeth:.

I have the weekend free (actually, I'm free until to thursday, afaik - Brazil doesn't kinda function during carnival. I had a meeting and it was cancelled. I seriously don't consider vacations due to that) and some alternates I want to test. Since I'm not that fast, probably you're at the same level my main is right now... :whistling:

Hi baron, sry I allreaded went ahead and lvled up my char to 63 :) She is a total blast, loving it.

Here is the progression:
-I started my build like this. mana and mana regeneration are the key to exp fast, i basically juust ran through the stages cold nova/firestorm anything on my way.
-from that point I took all offensive nodes of my build in order to keep lvling fast: link Molten shell and tempest shield were used exclusively defensive. Firestorm and flame totem were my killers. With this tree I arrived at Merciless and i had to get my resistanes covered: link
This was around lvl 55-59, where I made the transition to molten shell, picking up some more lifenodes and shieldblock nodes, lvling up at the monkeys in the forest, which is an excelent place to practise my molten shell skills. Im now lvl 63 and this is current build.
With the equipment I had from my previous char im very easily able to farm any lvl 62 area. Next plan is to take elemental adaptation, so I dont explode myself anymore vs elemental reflect auras. (explosion does 4-5k aoe damage). And the lifenodes at the witch starter area. Then I will go for all shieldblocknodes, I think if I take all, I reach 76%, while it is capped at 75, I might leave it at 74, to save some skillpoints. Then around lvl 80-85, I will be finished with this and take body and soul circle at the left, hoping to have my aegis aurora by then, which needs more armor and energy shield. If im still lvling up at that point i can finish the build with more damage and mana regeneration at the templar starter area, finishing like this.

ps. looking for white champion kite shields (lvl62) to use my orbs of chance.
ps2: also looking for flammability curse, edit: dropped it.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Nice progress, everyone! I really enjoyed reading it all.

My ranger is at 51 and midway through cruel act 3. She is fairly safe to play but feels slow at times. I've started using puncture/knockback a fair amount, on top of using frenzy and poison arrow. She's mostly just parked for now though as I've started a new char.

The templar was started as a very defensive build. He is using :
storm aegis, mostly for the extra block as the damage is bad.
Molten shell: not that often while questing as it often won't trigger before expiring, but it's been more useful the farther I progress.
Lightning strike: I used this a lot early on but don't like it that much anymore. In use it on large groups, but without good support gems and lots of mana it's tough.
Shield charge: love this skill! This is actually what I've been using to kill most stuff as it's super fun and it's easy to get out of trouble.

I'm almost to brutus in cruel and I haven't died once.
I've got about 1.3k life, 35% armor reduction before molten shell, and 80 AR besides chaos.

Planning on picking up a few more life nodes on the marauder starting spot then I'll grab another shield section. I'll try to link my build next time I'm at my computer.

Edit: Here's my templar

I'm planning on getting those last 3 life passives by the marauder start and then the shield section below that, any other advice?

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

great stuff you got there. looks good, I dont rly have any advice, except also make sure to get some damage, at the official forum>templar is a sticky about such sort of builds.

One amazing website I found 5 mintues ago is this: http://poetools.com/market/

I dont know how the tool works, but it works awesome, you can fill in what kind of item you look and the tool checks the forums for you. This tool saves me hours of searching for aegis aurora, I even tried google. With 1 simple klick, I can see there are none for sale right now.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

It's interesting to see how much attention PoE has got from SPF even though it is still in beta, while Torchlight 2 didn't. TL2 is almost exclusively for single player while PoE focuses a great deal on online stuff so I would have thought TL2 would be favoured by SPers and PoE by the Bnet crowd. But it doesn't seem that way. Hm.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

PoE is getting a lot of attention because a lot of us see it as what Diablo III could have been. Also the intricacies of the massive passive skill tree and the active skill gems, and a decent item system (which I've herad is sorely alcking in TL2), present a level of theorycrafting potential that is right up the SPF's alley.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

That's an awesome link, easyG! Thanks!

TL2 almost felt like a step back from D2 to me, in just couldn't get into it. PoE is fresh and innovative and it does have tons of theorycrafting potential for sure.

I finally acquired a blood magic gem this morning.....yum!

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Man im so jealous guys...lil. Im so busy i can only game on weekends guys. About 4 hours max. Ill post my build. In need of advice what to do next. Im a lvl31 marauder and im barely cutting it in act3 normal. Im on items bought at vendors and self found.
Before allocating future skills, i need to sort out these equations.
1 handed with shueld,2 handed or dual wielding.
Best single and double hand dmg weapon (base weapon) requiring str for marauder.
Is shield viable for this build? Ill post my skills tree when im on my pc.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Mm.. I've been thinking of starting a summoner. Do any of you guys have any experience with that?

Other then that, I've been having sort of fun with my ranger. Trying to go for a pure attack speed/physical damage build. Curious how viable that is, and if I have seen all the arrow spells there is, or if there are more surprises in store for me.

Act 2 normal btw.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

sounds good skjolde.
Summoners in POE are completely different as necromancers in diablo2. The minions die extremely fast, but deal explosion damage on death. As summoner you actually need a lot of castspeed and manaregenration to non stop summon your summons while they are dieing.

From about lvl 50 and later, your minions become somewhat more durable, you will have most of the passives and supportgems and minions scale extremely well from lvling up the skillgem. Als around this point you might start running some auras and maybe a spell totem support to summon your skeletons. From lvl 65-70, a decent equiped summoner can farm everything solo. You will also allways be farming solo, because playing in party with an endgame summoner gives guaranteed lag, even with the fastest pc's.

My moltenshell witch tank is lvl 74 now. I found out you get extremely less experence when 11 lvls above monsterlevel. At lvl 73 I left solaris temple and went to lunaris temple. Now im lvl 74, I have to seriously start doing maps. Im currently in trade for an augis aurora, which will make me strong enough for maps, so waiting off that trade: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/143039

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Did anyone else notice that the 1.10.1b update was huge? I updated to 1.10.1 last week (I think), then didn't have a chance to login until last night and had to d/l the 1.10.1b update. The patch notes had what seemed like 3 inconsequential updates but it was a 432mb download? Weird.

Anyway, last week tried to push through to Jail but was woefully underpowered. Went back and farmed the ledge and rocky climb a bit last night and finally found some worthwile gear, may give it another shot tonight (or may just farm some more :)) and try to push on to A2. Still playing my Templar as either a split arrow w/ summons to distract or my new tactic is to pop a decoy totem and spam the spell that works just like frost nova in D2 (don't remember the name). 3-4 blasts of that destroys all the skeletons in the ledge/climb areas making it reasonably fast to farm.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Easy: that shield just makes me drool, if they don't Nerf it soon I'll likely end up making a build similar to what you have. (I'm guessing, I haven't ever seen your witch passive tree)

Bob: what difficulty are you in?
That patch was very large, I'm guessing it's because of all the new graphics.

I took the last couple days off to play the new D3 patch. That was enough for me to realize that I don't really have any desire to play D3 anymore.
My templar is most the way through act 2 cruel now. Damage feels a bit on the lacking side, but not bad. Still haven't died yet, but it'll likely happen soon, and likely to something that deals chaos damage.

I also have a bug with shield charge that you get stuck in the animation and can't move. Happens about once every half hour, hopefully they'll fix that soon.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

@kestegs- I'm still in the first difficulty, whatever that's called. I still think of everything in D2 terms, e.g. Normal. Haven't got the PoE jargon down yet. Character level 13 I think.

Why can't I see the shield if I click EasyG's hyperlink?

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Unless im missing something obvious, what build is it that you're guessing EasyG uses?

EDIT: Hmm.. Google does the most wonderful things..

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

ye thats my shield, except mine has 97% increased armor and energyshield and the obvious 20% quality.
My character: Copia
Here is my build at lvl 75. Took health/castspeed/skillpoint as bandit quest rewards. At level 89, I will reach 73% blockrate with this build.
Got currently 2600 health and 1100 ES 80 to all resistances and armor depends at molten shell/flask usage but is usually between 5 and 15k.
So 73% chance to block attacks, 48% chance to block spells and 10k armor and 1k ES. Now you have these facts, take a look at my shield again. All attacks under 1500 damage and spells under 700 damage (after armor and resistance reduction), heal me, which makes me pretty immortal. I can only die from 4 things:
-extremely hard hitting monsters, like brutus (boss of dungeon map). Multiarrow from piety can also be dangerous since my cold resist is only 78 at the moment and once got unlucky with block procs.
-chaos damage
-unblockable spells (chaos/poison clouds in maps and unrighteous fire in lunaris temple) I think corpse explosion can be blocked.
-reflect elemental damage, allthough since I got aurora I never died from this anymore so I think it can be blocked.

molten shell damage is 4-6k.
skills used:
-molten shell-iron will-increased quantity-increased rarity
-rain of fire-fire penetration-increased duration-increase rarity
-reduce mana-clarity-discipline-tempest shield
-reduce mana-determination-flammability
-flame totem (could use some supports when I find decent gloves, leveled up an extra iron will support to lvl 17)

My shield+amulet+passives(after i get the 2nd body and soul) offer me 70 lightning/70 cold and 85 fire resist, because of this I only need 210 more elemental resists from equipment at 7 items (rings/armor/helm/gloves/boots/belt) to max out at 80/85/80. Since single target resist mods go up to 45% endgame this is very easy, and im sure I will be able to squeeze in a decent amount of chaos resist too some day.

If you ever consider making similar build, but then with CI, dont do it. With your low hp you will be in non-stop block-lock, unless you also get the stun immunity keynode, at the complete different site of the skilltree map. I did make a tree for this, but I think the HP/ES will still be better as pure ES. Especially since im convinced to have 75% chaos resist some day. And use pure ES you will need some pretty awesome ES/armor items.

Read here, about block/stun and other mechanics.

Edit: Even with HP build the blocklocks can be annoying and so I started to think about another build. It offers 74% block, much more HP and stun/block immunity. No mana for determination aura, but the extra armor nodes should make more then up for that. The fact that it has less castspeed is no problem since that will be made more then good, not getting blocklocked. It also has slightly less damage I think, allthough the STR will add a lot. All in all, this build might be better, especially for hardcore (especially with the reduced critical damage taken, making stuff like brutus much less dangerous). I would start as templar, since the int will be more needed for more mana/ES as the str for more hp/damage. The more I look at this build, im starting to feel sorry I didnt go this way.

Thought about endgame maps:
Maps are fun, the variety of monsters and terrain needs you to udnerstand the game mechanics or you will get suprised. Map droprate is low. When soloing maps you dont drop a map each maprun so you will eventually run out of maps. I understood even when doing maps in larger party's you will eventually run out, but its much better. Offcourse its nice if you can do this with trusted players.

You can drop lvl 66 maps from all lvl 60 monsters, I suggest to farm them as soon as you can and keep doing so until you are lvl 74. from this level exp from lvl 63 area becomes significantly lower (like 3-5% from each Piety run) and start doing your lvl 66 maps. White monsters are lvl 66, blue lvl 67 and yellow/boss lvl 68. They are able to drop maps similar to their level, so while doing your lvl 66 maps, you might drop lvl 67 and 68 maps, while doing those maps you might drop even higher level maps etc. Itemmods and items over lvl 73 are a lot stronger, this is why even white items (for crafting) from these maps are very valuable, but its very hard to get those maps because of the low map drop rate.
Personally I am out of any maps and forced to go back to lunaris temple to farm them again, which is imo a bit boring and I hope there will be soon an expansion with higher map drops or higher level stuff.

If anyone feels ready to join mapruns, then you can contact me ingame and you can join me, with the rule that mapdrops are for the mapcreator. For each player joining quantity drop goes up by 50% so there will drop more maps.

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

Thanks for the write up EasyG.

I have a question about currency... What is it?

Is there anything special that is often used as currency?

Re: OT: The SPF Path of Exile Thread

So you mostly list the value in exalted orbs?

So according to this table, if I want a item that has a price of 1 exalted orb, people would/should be satisfied with me trading them 20 Blessed orbs?
