OT: Sacred Gold

I was wandering about the local mall when I stumbled upon a cd/dvd case of the game Sacred for a nice price (around 9 euros).
I've searched the forums for information, but I've found only some very old threads (2004) talking about the demo.
Is anyone still playing this game, or has played it for enough time to offer a comparison to Diablo II? I've browsed a wiki to see what the main game concepts are, but I'd like to have some first hand opinion.
Maybe I'll buy it anyway, since it's so cheap :) I hope it'll run nicely on my low-budget 3 years old laptop.
I see Sacred 2 is out and looks much better, but I'm not planning to upgrade/buy another PC until D3 comes out.
Thanks for any information

Didn't like it. It's too messy. In that regard it reminds me abit of Transformers:ROTF. Maybe there a demo of Sacred somwhere on the web? That should give you a good idea of what it feels like to play it.

Re: OT: Sacred Gold

The sounds are really annoying and if you don't patch up everything and have the latest expansion its riddled with bugs, heck even after all that patching you still have one bugged quest that can mess everything up if you do it (some sort of puzzle in the desert, given by a wizard). Other than it feel weird and messy like Pijus said, its a lot like diablo 2. Similar drop qualities etc. Just note if you will hunt for treasures its good to advance through difficulties since the easiest one drops very rarely and the items are actually weaker.

I've got it. Used to play it. The bugs were horrible, never really found any updates or fixxes for the issues. Most were fixxed by the players atm, but I'm not sure what the fan base for it is like now. There are a ton of side quests that you can do, and the devs have a great sence of humor. But for as cheep as you found it, I think its worth the price to play it for a bit. Or grab the demo, but hey, 9 euro's? just grab it and put it on a shelf to collect dust lol

Re: OT: Sacred Gold

If I were you I would wait a week for torchlight :) ofc you'll pay twice the price (still cheap), but you'll get a much newer game (and it looks very promising imo!)

Re: OT: Sacred Gold

I enjoyed it quite a bit when I played. I tried to find a copy of it to put on my company laptop as a diversion. (The company won't listen to me and go Apple). It's not the best game ever, but as long as you don't expect the best game ever, I wouldn't think yould be disappointed. And the ability to put points in the same skill up to your character level for one skill of death is nice.

My 2 cents.

I played it and enjoyed it quite a bit for about 2 months. Its like D2 with static maps, less MF'ing, and no ATMA. Definitely fun, and a good story, but doesn't have the lasting appeal that D2 has (at least for me).

Re: OT: Sacred Gold

I loved playing Sacred, and the best part was by far the Open World feel. It definitely isn't perfect, but it will keep you occupied for a few weeks or more. My favorite class was the Battlemage. There is some skill called ice shards I think, anyway it shoots out ice shards in front of you, from just 2 or 3, to half a screen.

It pwns.

Word of advice though: Don't play online. Nothing but hackers. And if your character gets hacked or has edited items, then it gets dressed in a bunny suit in the character select screen.
