OT: (ressurection) character names

So far I've only two characters, and their names are from Warcraft 3 characters name.

@DeadDave: The link is not working.

I take two words and combine them.

My last Pat was named Vag*naBurger. Sorry for the crudeness.

Otherwise it's named after the food/snack I was eating as I made the character.

Must fight ....can't hold ..back.

That's a very odd snack, where does the bread go

Anyway, I've been naming my characters after Cream songs recently
Have a barb named Brave-Ulysses and a Necro named Swlabr

Also sometimes use science for names. There was my auradin named Oligodendrocyte, Barb named Caspase and Charged boltress named B-wave (that'll only make sense to the retinal biologists).

Other than that I usually make up "witty" names that more likely come off like I'm trying too hard.
Had a Singer named Decible. A CtC Thornadin named HitMePlease. And my Dexazon that has no chance of winning the GlassCannon tourney due to AJK's amazing feat named AmpleDextrous.

No worries.

[crudeMode] Hopefully you weren't eating both at the same time. :) [/crudeMode]

So to get away from the subject of VaginaBurgers;

Most of my character names come from other videogames, music, or -gasp- Anime.

Some characters even follow certain themes, such as in the classic game Final Fantasy Tactics, there are two NPCs, -quite tough- NPCs at that named Celia and Lede. What is their 'job' in the game? That's right. Assassins. You'll notice my PvP assassin goes by the name Celia, and I have a Blade Fury assassin by the name of Lede. They both hold their ground quite well, though I wouldn't trust either of them in /p8 PvM. Even though Lede is supposed to be pure PvM.

I had thought about basing an entire set of characters off of the characters from the game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but the project never got off the ground due to lack of feedback from the forum(s), and the feedback was something I felt was needed, but meh. I would've probably never finished it anyways.

I just can't use made-up names or randomly generated names that doesn't seem to fit. For me, the names of my characters should remind me of something. (or maybe my creativity is too dull to came up with a nicely sound made-up word)

I usually use names from games/books/myths, and try to group them so that one char from every class gets a name from the same consept.

I have planned and started 7 such chars named from the dragonlance series; also i have planned another 7 char/build that can fit by greek god names, hades for fishy for instance, hephaestus for fire druid, apollo for my cleric and so on, i only have a problem to name an assassin for that consept

My out of consept chars are my enchantress sorc 'rapidash' and my pure blizz sorc 'jynx', i found out that jynx means bad luck, i though it would be ironic to name my first mf char like that and i don't have regrets so far :wink3:

cLvl99 Meteorb "Angelforge"
cLvl98 P&B Necro "DreamWeaver"
cLvl89 WolfDruid "TheSheppard"

:D
SP or B.net? If B.net, you were lucky to get name like that. My test characters on B.net end up with names like dkisdfmh after I get tired of being told a name is taken.

I use several different methods to name my characters, but the most common is to just pick a regular name: Bob, Kathryn, Paul...

In general, I take the names to be descriptive of the build (Fishy, Meteorb, Hammer, etc)

For tourneys, I tend to take them from either the tourney idea, or from literature or something. I'm now playing the not so aptly named amazon Triggerhappy (I don't see her sing crossbows anytime soon) as a glass cannon. I had a few named after Discworld and Red Dwarf characters as well.

"Hm, haven´t I answered this before?" Oh yes, Twice, as a search revealed.

(copied from an older post about this subject)

For me, names on characters are important. I may even hold off starting a character for days if I can´t come up with a good name right away...

The names come from all over the place:

Mythology/religion: Brynhilde, Artemis, Diana, Odysseus, Io

Fantasy characters from somewhere else: Herne, Jules, Gabrielle, Whaizzzzg, Elayna, Isorion

Descriptive/associative: Venus, Stabber, BladysHighkick, SniperBlazie, Slump-Maja, Lucky, Ursus, Fattigman, HotBabe, Bones, VenomousVixen

"Normal" names that I think are cool and/or beautiful: Angelina, Carol, Mike, Jake, Surya, Laverne

Names I made up: Adriella, Ai-san, Treena

Homages to some people: Sapphidia, Sten, Bengt

and my favourite category:

to get an advantage in a certain tournament: Aaliyah!

The names represent an important part of RPGs for me, thus, I always take some time to name my characters. Since I'm very slow fantasy name generator, I alternatively pick those from books/movies/other games, if they go well with the theme.

In D2, I often use the names of Valar from The Silmarillion. I haven't played so many characters yet to run short of them.

Then said Manwë, looking upon the glory of that ship as it strained to be away: "Who shall steer us this boat and guide its course above the realms of Earth, for even the holy bodies of the Valar, meseems, may not long endure to bathe in this great light."
But a great thought came into the heart of Urwendi [Arien], and she said that she was not adread, and begged leave to become the mistress of the Sun and to make herself ready for that office as Ilúvatar set in her heart to do. Then did she bid a many of her maidens follow her, even of those who had aforetime watered the roots of Laurelin with light, and casting aside their raiment they went down into that pool Faskalan as bathers into the sea, and its golden foams went over their bodies, and the Gods saw them not and were afraid. But after a while they came again to the brazen shores and were not as before, for their bodies were grown lucent and shone as with an ardour within, and light flashed from their limbs as they moved, nor might any raiment endure to cover their glorious bodies anymore. Like air were they, and they trod as lightly as does sunlight on the earth, and saying no word they climbed upon the ship, and that vessel heaved against its great cords and all the folk of Valinor might scarce restrain it.

The Book of Lost Tales I, "The Tale of the Sun and the Moon"

Incidentally, there are 8 most powerful Valar (5 male, 3 female) called the Aratar. Ulmo, the Lord of the seas, scarcely comes ashore, which leaves exactly seven. I wish I had the time..

My four characters are named:
Christof (Barbarian) - A character from another game
Sigon (Barbarian) - He used the Set
Angmar - Part-built IK Barbarian. From LOTR
Charon (Necromancer) - Mythological Greek ferryman of the dead
