What bands/music you guys into?
Lately:
Keith Jarrett. Complete piano virtuoso. In 1973 he started to play a concert format where he would improvise, alone, for the ful hour + encores. Absolutely amazing and brilliant musician who is capable of playing any style given to him. Also played with Miles Davis, Don Ellis, and Charles Lloyd. Currently is touring with his trio comprising of him, Jack DeJohnette, and Gary Peacock.
Rahsaan Roland Kirk. The original avant-garde musician, a completely werid person all around. Became blind at age two when a nurse was having a bad day and poured too much of the wrong medicine in his eyes. Learned to play music on a water hose. His grandfather would come and practice on their piano, so he would run out back and play along on a water hose. His life long dream was to be able to play 2 saxaphones at once, and learned to play the mazello and the stritch at one time. He developed a one handed technique where he could actively play different melodies on one another. He also had a strange way of singing while playing the saxaphone, it's hard to explain.
Albert King. I picked up his "Born Under A Bad Sign" about a month ago and it hasn't come out of my stereo yet. Probably the best modern-electric blues guitarist, he has always had wonderful sessions.
George Lynch. He was the guitar hero of the '80s for the hair-metal band Dokken. He now plays a darker style of rock, but with a very complex virtuoso feel to it. Currently been listening to his covers of classic-rock tunes where he completely shreds through Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower."
Cynic. Death Metal Progressive with a very distinctive vocals. Odd and strange music, yet it fits and is cool.
Addison Groove Project. Local fusion band that I personally know. Great covers of classic Floyd albums. Lately they collaborated with Phish guitarist Trey Annestasio.
