Thats right garbad, you break out and live wild and free with all the other mountain goats. That is, unless they pummel you for hanging out with wolves, bears, and beavers.

First off I'd like to say looks good and if I had a PS2 and extra money I would be very tempted indeed, but...
Why has every rpg for consoles have a cartoon/anime like outlook with unlimited time to scrounge around the landscape and generally be the same thing with in a different setting with changes that don't change anything in the gamplay? I know that people like the simplicity/complexity of these games and everything, but will the need for these kind of games ever end?

There will always be more people who havn't played these games before, who won't find it old and boring yet. So there will always be people to buy them. Story lines can help a game, and if you can get to like the characters then you can enjoy the game more.

Its difficult to make changes to a game world that don't mess up the plot of a game though. I liked Arcanum for the idea that you could kill pretty much anyone and everyone and still complete the game, either by finding objects near or on dead NPCs, or by summoning their spirits. You could be as evil as you wanted and it didn't mess up the plot at all. You could even be an imbecile and get away with it and it was amusing. Problem was that the plot was pretty linear, it just had alot of lee-way in how you went about it. Plus one of the most powerful spells was a level 1 spell :/ ("Harm" from the Black Necromancy tree).

I might go back to that game cause it was fun and I've forgotten most of it now, so I'd not get bored so quickly...

I thought the Disgea fans might be interested in that link though.

well there's three of us? any more Disgaea owners?

I preordered PB and got it the day it came out, so cross me off the list :drink:

as for changing gameplay, it's not a standard rpg, it's a strategy rpg, the gameplay is markedly different

It's not the new gamers I'm worried about, it's the gamers that have been there and done that with snes and are still buying the newest PS2 equivelants(sp).

Are you saying that in order to make an rpg you have to stick to the basic rules and restrictions of the "mainstream"?

Haven't played arcanum, might be fun, but I liked fallout 2 very much though. Have to agree though that the travelling and encounters makes it very similar to the console mainstream rules.
