OT: Need a new TV series

Re: OT: Need a new TV series

I'm on Eddie's side. The American version of the office is grade A programming. Blows the British version away.

Re: OT: Need a new TV series

I forgot to add that It's Always Sunny is hilarious as well. I know others have mentioned it, but I agree with that recommendation.

if you are into anime and I have noticed some people recommended some (good choices, btw. Have not seen all of Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo (RL, not much time, ya get it) but from what I have seen, awesome!), Death Note is freaking awesome and I really liked Hellsing. and Yu Yu Hakusho. There are four seasons, the last one is the worst one (too short, felt rushed), but another good one. I'm currently on Spice and Wolf. it's okay, something about trading, money, and a wolf-goddess... I paid more attention to the music than the actual plotline. >.>

Ugly Americans. That one took a little while to grow on me, but it grew on me fast. It takes place in an alternate New York City where monsters and creatures are everywhere and Mark is your main guy. He's a social worker who works with an interesting set of creatures and the other castmates are as interesting.... his roommate is a zombie dude thing and his girlfriend is the daughter of the Devil (i think). There ya go.

Re: OT: Need a new TV series

Community. This belongs alone, for it is far and away the best show on TV.

Otherwise:
Psych - Funny stuff. I would recommend, if at all possible, watching from the beginning, since there is loose continuity throughout. Not essential, though.
Monk - My favorite mystery show ever, still the best mysteries on TV. Watch in order, if not just watch the first 4 seasons. After that the mysteries take a severe dive in quality and the comedy gets cruder and cruder.
How I Met You Mother - Talked about already.
Law and Order: Criminal Intent - Bit of a wildcard, but my favorite crime drama. Goren is such a great character.
Poirot - Old BBC miniseries from the early 90s. Based on the novels about the little Belgian, and the acting, writing, and period-settings are perfect.

I forgot The West Wing. And The X-Files.

Re: OT: Need a new TV series

+1 for The 4400. Loved that show.

Also +1 for the Mentalist. It's not overly serious most of the time. A good lighthearted watch.

Re: OT: Need a new TV series

Alright...thanks for all the replies, I got a bit of TV watching to do to catch up with everyone. I watched the first two seasons of Archer and I got to say this was hilarious and at ~20 minutes a pop it was so easy to watch them with limited downtime. So many great lines, and witty writing. Basically addicted.

I watched the first season of Walking Dead. I found that I liked reading up on everything on the wikia for the show and about the comic books, but found the episodes lacking. I just didn't find the characters decisions all that realistic-then again I don't live in a post-apoctolyptic zombie wasteland so maybe I would do things differently. For similar reasons I can't do any of the medical dramas (ER, chicago hope, grey's anatomy, house, etc.)-too unrealistic to me, but scrubs surpirsingly is fairly insightful and I have watched most of that.

I saw one episode of Battlestar Galactica and think I might try to watch a little more of that: I like "Jamie Escalante". and I hear that it can stretch your thoughts on philosophy and "what would you do in this situation?" type thinking. Plus it is sci-fi and I like that.

Saw an episode of Monk, and I know a lot of people like that show, but the first episode I was sort of "meh" about. Should probably watch a couple more before deciding.

I think the next sampling will need to be game of thrones, and the wire. Anyway, happy watching

Re: OT: Need a new TV series

Game of Thrones, now. By the time you finish it, you'll be in time for Season 2 (or if you're me, you'll be done it in one day).

Re: OT: Need a new TV series

+1 On The Wire being the best drama show ever made! None other is worthy mentioning in the same breath. But Oz, and Breaking Bad, gets a somewhat distant second place honours. And those shows are really good.

Comedy would be Traier Park Boys. All those canned laughter shows can **** off to the **** abyss!

Cowboy Bebop.

Also, anybody seen Broken Saints? Hard to describe this masterpiece, but it involves slight scifi, horror and other elements in a neat comic sort of style. It can be very esoteric if you have an affinity for the kind of atmosphere present in every chapter of this show.
