OT: Loving the SPF

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Oh yes, the Pan Galactic Gargleblaster. You'll want to die a thousand deaths but enjoy them each. Something about lemons, I remember.

What do you strain out of it? The ice? I may have to try that. It looks good.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Who said anything about good whiskey? I mix the cheaper stuff, and if/when I ever get the more expensive labels, I drink them straight.
I've tried a couple of more expensive labels, and for me, they don't really taste too much different. Some are smokier, some sweeter, but to me, they're close to the same. Blasphemy as it may be, most whiskeys are quite similar to me. Thus, I enjoy a mixed whiskey and cola most of the time. I would never mix expensive whiskeys though. Never!

@zemaj - Come down to australia. Gotta get you to make that for me. I haven't really tried many mixed drinks, mainly because I don't know much about what goes with what, how much, etc. Not really for me. ;)

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Gold? In the Goldschläger I suppose?
Gold is good to drink, we have gold in us naturally.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

<--Black Velvet and Coke.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Nah, whisky must not be that old unless it comes from Port Ellen.
A young, ripe and strong Ardberg or Laphroaig for me please.

Jack + coke is not bad as a party starter. But I would not classify Jack as whisky after all.

Heresy. Jack Daniels is a bourbon whiskey (note the 'e'). Whisky is the real stuff. That is to say, SCOTCH Whisky ... and the older the better.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

So it's:
Scotch Whisky - the real stuff.
Bourbon WhiskEy - the imitation?

I spelt whiskey both ways, and didn't know why.
... I should just look at my bottles under my table to find out how they spell it. :)

Red Lablel/McAllister/Ballantine 'whisky' and Jim Beam bourbon 'whiskey.' The things you learn! I do have to say, I do like a good Jim Beam.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Forgot about Wild Turkey. Definitely a good choice.

I declare this to be the actual bar. Where all things alcoholic exist. Drinks, mixers, labels, ages, spirits, wines etc. This is where to find out more, and just to have general alcohol related chat!

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Sorry, Kest. Only got premixed Dews. Drop by the EMB if you want one of those. ;)

Where's my phone?

*wanders off in search of phone*
Cya all!

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

I enjoy Wild Turkey. That's a ROUGH whiskey though. If I go out and want to get smashed, I ask for 4 WT doubles and a dr. pepper. Slam the doubles and wash it down with dr. pepper.

But for flavor sake, a well aged Single malt Scotch cannot be topped. I'm going to attend PAX East this year, and there's a bar near the convention center in Boston which has 50 year MacAllan at a ridiculous price per shot, and I plan to have a couple.

Strange as it may seem, for I was extremely lit when I made this thread and declared my love for the SPF! Fitting! Very Fitting!
*hic*

*steals everyones' phones*

:D I need a new one anyhow! Have fun with no internet and 200 txts!

And I will be making the KFC here soon! Or KGF whatever it's called.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

not all bourbon is 'bad'... Wild Turkey(101) & Old Charter(12yo), for example, are quite tasty.

it still doesn't hold a candle to scotch, but it isn't bad... better than rum, gin, or tequila. A good vodka is quite nice, too.

EDIT:
also, there is a difference between bourbon whiskey & whiskey... mostly just appellation, but it does make a difference. As usual, Wikipedia makes a good stab at explaining it, though it does fall somewhat short of the whole idea.

i like bourbon better than "real" whiskeys. if i'm spending a fair amount, i get Knob Creek or Maker's Mark. if i'm feeling cheap, i go for Fighting C**k (heh, got censored out). even though FC is 103 proof, it's still pretty drinkable with a little bit of water or if you wait for your ice to melt a bit.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Takillya is nasty nasty awesome stuff, alright. i think a lot of people (i included) would agree to the hate/love relationship.

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Every experience with Tequila is simulateously great and terrible. I also agree to the love hate relationship

Re: OT: Loving the SPF

Single malt should only be mixed with more single malt :p I am actually partial to Laphraig on the Rocks.

@Zemaj: We don't get Hurricanes we get Tropical Cyclones :p.

On a serious note TCs are only really in the North of Australia. I think you would be safe in Brisbane and you are definitely Safe in either Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth.
