Ot: Hellgate London

I'm a creature of habit, proof being that I still fire up d2 every once in awhile, even pat'ed a druid recently. I generally wait a few months before I purchase a new game just so I can see some official reviews, and wait for all server/bug issues to be worked out.

I'm kinda skeptical about the gameplay, it might look all new fangled and fancy, but if it's not much fun I won't bother.

For me it all comes down to the content between paying and F2P customers. If they pretty much make it so that you can only access ~50% of the game content without paying I wont really bother.

Goddamn, hot chicken

I just played the demo and was hoping I'd get in the european beta test server thing just before the launch. I played the demo and it works suprisingly well considering I didnt even hit minimum specs bcuz I'm missing half a gig of ram... still it runs totally smooth with medium settings and shadows to the hilt. Actually I have almost identical setup with Colony except I have a lil more CPU power but less ram atm.

But what I really love about this game... semperfi and the zombie apoc feeling. Dammit it had even a Dawn of the Dead reference so I just have to buy it when it comes live.

Anyone here starting to play it as soon as it goes live? Btw for those of you playing the beta does it have a friends system? Or does your accnt name ever appear in-game?

Yes, it has a friends system. But I didn't use it at all, so I can't tell you any detail.

Of course, the beta had a lot more features than the demo. Demo had just 1.5GB, beta had 4.3GB and, when running for the first time, it downloads a lot more files before you can start playing.

By now, there must be hundreds of reviews made by other beta-testers. Take a look at them and have fun.

Game will be out on 31st on US. Who knows when it will be available here in South America?

tszanon, I'd say when Hellgate freezes over.

How about the storage space and stuff?
I don't remember the exact sizes, but inventory and "stash" are both bigger than in D2. Item sizes are about the same: mods are 1x1, small weapons are 2x2, bigger weapons are 3x2, 2x3 and 1x4 (swords). Armor are 2x3, 2x2 and 1x2.
So you see, things have gotten better. And since you should dismantle things instead of selling them, you probably won't run out of inventory space. I never used the stash when I was playing, because I just didn't need that extra space (and maybe because I didn't find out that it existed before long in the game...).

I don't know if there are any, but I didn't find anything like charms in Hellgate.

Got any links about this?

Im confuzzled a bit about HG:L.
I thought the Diablo Team left to do Guild Wars? Is this a different team?

That was the minds behind battle.net mainly.

As for no Lan, everything I've read is it'll be easier to hack into closed with it. Though I wish it was available.

The difference to date of subscribers to non is 3 character slots per server versus 24. Elite and Hardcore mode. Double the locker(stash) space.

Said features that will be subscriber only: More character classes, heard they have 3 more almost finished, just not in time for release. This is getting on the overboard of features that should be free.

My major complaint is: It looks like subscriber only features are available for whether your online or offline, though no one knows really at this point. If single player gets shafted, that is just plain wrong in every way. But, hey we are used to it right? :undecided:

As for legendary and collecting, I don't know if legendary items are set number of mods or if they are just base items with a legendary property. I hope it is legendary items, as it'll be fun to collect stuff. Versus non-collectable various unique items.

So far I'm loving the engineer, end will play the Engineer followed by the Summoner or Evoker, as both look rather fun, and play good. The melee classes will be played last for some unknown reason from me, but hey, I'll figure it out.

The friends system received a big overhaul (thanks to beta players' suggestions), but I haven't seen the finished project yet as it wasn't added to the US beta (but it should be in the EU beta). However, account names never entered into it, as they did on battle.net. The friends list was still across all characters, but instead of it referring to an account name, it simply refers to the name of the character they added you under.

The feeling I got was that single-player would not get the subscriber content. There was mention of packaged CDs that non-subscribers / single-players could buy to get the extra content, but Bill Roper recently stated that there are no plans to package the subscriber content in any sort of expansion pack type deal.

There's a lot more money, time, and effort being put into ping0 than there was into b.net, though. So a lot of the problems that drove people to SP should hopefully be a non-issue in HG:L. Still doesn't help those without a decent/stable internet connection at home (or none at all) or other offline players, though.

I do hope they do something for single-player though. And if there is the player base to justify it, they probably will, in time.

Well I finally ordered it, only 5 days to go now, and I might even have enough time free from uni work to play it a lot for the first couple of weeks:smiley:

I'm not one to say "I'm done with DII" but this game might do it. It may also get me to play online... for a time. Much of the online content will not be available in SP, from the start. I'll have to come to terms with that. This is an online game, no doubt about it. The SP is going to be a weak comparison.

They're claims are that the world is going to be far less static than DII was. They'll be short term changes made for holidays and what not, with new areas added for a specific purpose.

I think it will not have the appeal for me that D2 does unless there is an ATMA equivalent (eventually) for unlimited item storage. Otherwise how could we have a grail to strive for?

This ranks as a total zero for me. From experience in the two other top MMORPG's of their time, world events are not interesting. Vendors with magical eggnog? Whoop-dee-doo. Magic spawns that drop candy canes? Okay.

World events are usually dull stuff that either only lifers ro elite guilds can get to, or involve things that are completely forgettable. It's basic game depth that counts, not putting a bow on a pig. Not that this game is a pig. It's just that the standard is high and keeps increasing on an online game, and it's rightly hard to impress people who "live" in your online world. World events are more impressive to hardcore virtual nutcases than anyone else. The last thing I would join for is that.

P.S.: Relying on GM's (game masters, whatever) for your player interaction is pretty crazily random and stupid.)

For those who want some more information, I just found out that here in Brazil the game will be released tomorrow. Hope they don't postpone it.

Well the game has been released and everything in the net associated with hellgate london has crashed.

The official webiste gives a HT404 error. Incgamers forum (as above) is a page not found, and have you tried to join multi player?

In other words, the expected chaos you get with a first day release!

Heh... well, that's online. For us SP devotees, it's working fine :jig:

I just played for about two hours, and it's SO much better than the demo was. Having a great time so far. And HGL's versions of crafting/socketing/etc. seem very interesting.

My opinion of the game so far is a mixed bag. I'm going to give it some time because I think half my my problem is that I am still trying to understand it all and I have a problem trying to set the controlls the way I want them, In a nut shell I'm a leftie and don't like the two attack buttons on the mouse but I can't remapp them.

So assuming I can work around that problem and get some play time in, it looks like this is going to be a good game.

I have to admit I don't like the standard hotkeys for skills, but D2s default ones were a bit useless as well. Having 1, 2, 3, 4, Q and E for skills needed quickly isn't too bad, but if I need more it could be a problem.

I've got used to having to use a mouse right-handed, but I did that about 10 years ago when I was still only 10 or 11 (or around then), so it'll probably be very hard to switch now. Having to use F to pick up items basically forces you into using WASD as well.

As for the game I love it so far, but I'm only level 10 right now, as an Evoker, but I've got a good feeling about the game, just hope there's enough items and differences in possible builds that I won't get bored after getting one or two characters to level 50.

There also seem to be some server problems right now, I've been getting pings of over 250 of the European server and have been disconnected a few times, but I've also seen it go below 30, so hopefully it'll all be sorted out in a few days.

just because i don't want to register for a new forum to ask this question:
i went to systemreq lab to see if i can run HG:L and this was the results

Minimum: 128MB 3D 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible video card with shader model 2.0 (NVIDIA GeForce 6200+ / ATI Radeon 9500+)

You Have: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family (Intel(R) Calistoga Graphics Controller)

would this be able to run it if i turned graphics down? I don't care all that much about prettyness and everything else i have meets the recommended or is close, i can't quite remeber as i closed it already
