New Assassin Character

Me and my friend are going to play solo single player, and I'm actually going to start my first true assassin. I was looking at the assassin forum and it offered a lot of builds but I was wondering if you guys could possibly help me out in choosing one. I'm looking for an assassin build that I can go /p8 in normal and nightmare, that doesn't require me to wear the godliest items and that's fun and can kick some ***! So if anyone could possibly help me out with that I would be greatly in your debt. I guess all that I'm really looking for is a name of an assassin build that meets those requirements and I will do all the research of course. Me and my friend are planning to play untwinked. Thanks again.

can I play too? lol Ill play an untwinked poison necro? Im so bored right now!

There are a few assassin builds! Kicksins are pretty cool! dont count on p8 in hell as much for physical characters tho. nightmare is fine! Im not sure really I have some werid hybrid trapsins!

Well, there are lots of assassin builds out there, it depends on your preference really.

MA-wise, you have:

- Tiger Strike/Dragon Tail (TS/DT) - enormous damage but it's all fire/physical.
- Phoenix Strike/Dragon Claw - all elements available but only two can be fully synergised
- Dragon Talon - can be very powerful, but again heavily physical-based.

Traps-side:

- Blade Fury. Not one of the traditional traps, and not a fast killer, but exceedingly safe. Better in HC than SC for that reason, IMO.
- Sentry-type traps - there are a few variations trapper-wise but the one not to use is Wake of Inferno as it is, apparently, bugged like the other inferno-esque skills.

Shadow skills:

No builds really revolve around the Shadow tree, but SM is a must-have skill. Mind Blast is nice but unnecessary with a SM.

For pure damage I'd suggest looking at a kick-based build or a Phoenix-based build. They have higher damage, but also the higher risk of melee. They are fairly equipment dependant like all melee builds but you should be able to get what you need on your way through (I often find myself in Hell with low-end Exceptional equipment and do fine. Until the Ancients kill me... )

I think that trapsins (Ls and DS used, with synergies and shadow master) are great fun, and are not item dependant and easy to pick up the basics of how best to lay traps.
And trapsins have in my opinion the coolest attack against diablo. Plant 5 traps around the pentagon where diablo spawns, then sit back and eat popcorn while the fireworks start.

@parawizard - I would let you play with us but me and my friend play on random days and we communicate through the phone. We usually start playing around 11 pm - midnight PST. Otherwise I would say 'fo sho' !!!

@everyone - thank you guys for your input. I will do some more research. At this very moment I'm leaning more towards the trapsin. If that doesn't work out I could play an MA assassin. But thanks again. :)

I've currently ressurected my ultimate assassin project. I've been mfing and trading for the items she needs for about a year now and I've reworked the build several times. I'm missing a few key things though and I'm going to experiment with a slightly diferent build b4 I release the guide.

However, just to keep you guys salivating, she's a brand new pvm build that I've never seen a guide for and has a really unique play style. Not only that, but she's lethal, potentially the fastest baal runner on p8 out of all my characters. And that's saying a lot because I have a windy, hammerdin, lf zon and 3 diferent sorcs all designed for baal running :)

Oh yeah, and she's %90 melee. Pfff, melee sins will no longer be underrated!

EDIT:
Sorry about hijacking this thread :p I'm just really excited about this assassin and haven't had a good thread to add a blurb about her too.

Very interesting. I've tried 4 (melee) assassin builds for baalrunning, and they're all considered miserable failures. Can't you PM some insider info? ;)

Before you go one side or the other on the MA/Traps, consider Nightfish's guide for a hybrid sin. Max LS/DS for good lightning dmg, Max TS with normal attack for phys dmg. CoS for dmg prevention. He has good suggestions for technique in his guide too.

Anywhich way, good luck!

PS based build will give you good baal runner (only need to deal with gloams and IM curse as every other melee build). A lot of people don't see one of the most godly attack assassin could dish out -> 3rd charge of PS. it is by far the best friend you could have. The listed damage is low, but the freeze effect is the single most powerful attack on all assassin charges (a freezed target won't fight back, use it on listers, see how easy they die).

TS/DT is really a physical damage based, you can't release DT damage on PI.

I agree with bob - lightning trapsins are very fun, and not as item dependant as MA sins can be. All it takes is a little patience with the lack of mana you'll have for awhile, and finding some good trap claws.

Once you have your lightning trap skills all maxed out, you can start on fireblast for a very decent backup skill for light immunes.
