My #15 Patriarch: AK, a 'Beast' Avenger
The first character I've ever try to make, based on a guide, was a min-damage Avenger. Poor choice, I know. This guy is not it (my min-damage Avenger is in NM right now), but he is my "oldest" surviving (i.e. not-deleted) character. I started him 2.5 years ago (and got stuck in A4 Normal) and Patted him last week.
The usual conundrum of an Avenger is the choice of aura: Conviction vs. Fanaticism. Using 'Beast' as the weapon solves that problem. I guess the same can be said about 'Infinity', but I don't have it yet...
The Name: AK is named after a "lovable" character from a Harry Potter fanfiction story: "Dimension Hopping for Beginners" by nonjon.
AK is basically a Harry Potter from an alternative universe. He made a magic oath "to defeat Voldemort (i.e. big bad of HP universe) in every form, everywhere, till the end of time", or something along those lines. Of course he was stupid enough to learn dimensional travel magic first. Oops.
Now he is forced by his magic to travel between alternate dimensions and defeat various Voldemorts. The dimensions themselves are parodies of typical Harry Potter fanfiction stories: on his journeys AK meets a whiny Harry, abused Harry, harem Harry, evil Harry, seer Harry, over-powerful Harry, totally-crossed-over Harry, Azkaban Harry, a Harriet, etc.
His nickname comes from when his patience runs dry, which is quite often if you travel hundreds of worlds: A.K. is short for "Avada Kedavra" which is a killing spell in HP universe. Sometimes he decides to end the lives of Harry Potters he meets and judges not bloody good enough to live. Here's how AK reacts to a slash scene between a random Harry Potter and a Draco Malfoy:
OK, that's enough about that. I completely understand if you skipped that part, of course. Let's get back to Sanctuary, shall we?
The design: Fanaticism from 'Beast', Might from the moron, Conviction from RMB and Vengeance on LMB. Delirium and Decrep on the idiot for safety. 20 IAS off-weapon is enough for the fastest possible 8fpa. Owns Hell at /p3. No deaths and lots of fun.

The Skills:
Vengeance 20 [27] + 14 in each synergy (Resist Fire/Cold/Lightning)
Conviction 15 [20] for -125% enemy resistance
Holy Shield 3 [10], Vigor 1 [6]
Gear:
Weapon: 'Beast' in a 1.07 ATMA-bugged Berserker Axe
Shield: Herald of Zakarum (PDiamond)
Switch: beta-'Call to Arms' + 'Spirit'
-----
Head: Vampire Gaze (20% PDR, 14 MDR, 8% LL, 7% ML, 'Um')
Body: 'Fortitude' Archon Plate
Belt: String of Ears (14% PDR, 15 MDR, 8% LL)
Gloves: Crafted (10% CB, 5% LL, 3% ML, some fire res)
Boots: War Travs (50MF)
-----
Amulet: Highlord's Wrath
Ring 1: BKWB 5% LL
Ring 2: Ravenfrost 20/242
-----
Charms:
Gheeds 40MF and 21 small charms with resistances, 50FHR, lots of life and 4 seconds of poison damage for PMH (prevent monster heal).
Comments on the gear:
Only needed 20 IAS to reach max speed. This particular Vamp Gaze is usually on my morons, but it worked wonders on this character. Vamp Gaze and String of Ears is such a powerful combo: ridiculous amount of leech (both kinds) together with very significant MDR and %PDR. The only disadvantage was no FHR anywhere, but charms took care of that.
I could have done without War Travs, but the added damage is actually pretty significant and the MF didn't hurt. I love those gloves for situations when no IAS is necessary.
Moron
Act 2 Might
'Delirium' Tiara
eth Reaper's Toll
'Fortitude' Dusk Shroud
A big thank you to Nagisa for trading me a 'Fortitude' for PGems.
Overall:
Fun: 8/10 (would be higher, but the single monster attack is tedious at times)
Difficulty: 2/10
Future: Retirement
Remarks and musings
First of all, this was an extremely safe character to play, which came to me as a significant surprise. No deaths at all. A side effect of playing an avenger are very high resistances. Coupled with 29 MDR, this guy was barely affected by gloams, let alone other elemental attackers.
75% Chance to Block, 10.5k defense and 34% PDR meant a lot of safety from physical damage too. People usually complain about defense, but this guy is a bit different that way: a lot of the time he is standing in the middle of a pack of monsters (example) and hitting stuff. For this particular situation high defense works wonders.
Another aspect of safety I consider very important is the fact that he has a high physical damage and high LL/ML on him. Vengeance, high ED and all, does not provide any boost to physical damage. All that has to come from strength, Might, Fanaticism and 'Fortitude'. Without the physical damage boost and high leech, this character wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
Final element to bring safety was 'Delirium' on the moron. And it worked wonders (1, 2, 3!). Adding Decrep on top of that makes for a very safe journey. Although decrep wasn't crucial in any way, it helped with ghosts quite a bit, making them leechable (even if a little bit, it was enough with high physical damage and high life and mana leech).
Vengeance + Conviction owns. I went through Nightmare and A1 Hell at /p7 and the rest of hell at /p3, all the way including Baal. It is a single monster attack, but very powerful in my opinion. And nothing is immune to it, which is kind of neat. I went for -125% enemy resistance on Conviction, since a lot of monsters in Act5 Hell do have 25% resistance to an element. I actually went through the bestiary on Arreat Summit for that. I don't know why the common choice seems to be -120%. Maybe it's based on earlier acts.
High MF paid off in the form of a Windforce which was nice considering the hellforge was Lum.
Although this guy is going to retire now, I like him a lot. I'm going to make a min-damage Avenger and Gris Avenger too. That's how much I enjoyed him.
Thanks for reading!

A.K. thought there seemed to be a few more lumps than normal, and as he looked around the room he saw not one, but two magical trunks. A.K. bent down to take a peek in them and in the first found his old Invisibility cloak, some Gryffindor robes, and the Marauder's Map. All perfectly normal things that brought A.K. comfort to see. Then he looked into the second trunk and found a bottle of hair gel. This was certainly different. It was when he pulled out another school robe, but this time with the emblem of Slytherin on it, that A.K. stumbled backwards in surprise.
"Wha-" A muffled voice called out from under the comforter. "What's going on?" Harry's head came peeking out from the covers. Only it was the bottom of the covers right next to the pale feet that now appeared to not belong to Harry.
A blonde head popped out from the top of the covers, slowly waking up as well. "Yes, love? Something the matter?"
Harry cracked open an eye to see the sheer disgust and horror on the face of the strange man in his room. He closed his eyes again, wondering if he could go back to sleep. Harry tiredly asked, "Who are you?"
"Avada Kedavra!" A.K. called out hitting the sleepy, young Malfoy scion in the face.
"Avada Kedavra?" the exhausted Harry said as he tenderly rubbed his lover's feet. "That's a pretty silly name," he explained with his wrist bent lazily. "How's aboots I call you A.K. instead?"
"Avada Kedavra!" A.K. insisted aiming towards Harry, who just happened to sit up at the right moment and missed being hit by only millimeters.
"Fine, fine, no nicknames. Got it." Harry said as he leaned backward towards Draco, tiredly wiping the crust from his eyes. He was showing a fair amount of asscrack through the top of his pajama pants. "Drakey Poo? Why isn't my Silver Serpent ticklish anymore?"
A.K. stepped forward and made sure not to miss this time. "Avada Kedavra!"
And just like that Harry Potter was dead.
A.K. just shook his head in disappointment. "How many of these goddamn worlds are there?"
