i voted for the personalizing an item. the only thing good about it is that you get your name on it, which may increase the value of selling it, that's probably about it.

Definitely no, people don't like to wear an item that's carved with someone else's name... It decreases the value in 99.999999% of the case, except for VERY rare exceptions like Luke_Skywalker's Lightsaber...

shoot, Frosty beat me to it .. i had a clever comment about Dirk_Diggler's The Diggler Dirk :azn:

i voted countess. bloodraven is pretty lame, but i suppose it can be useful early in on. nihlathak is quest is good for creating funny named items, such as the infamous "Luke_Skywaker's Lightsabre" i bet those things can fetch a price. i've had some decent rings from blade of old religeon, and nearly always do this quest. but the gold from countess quest is just totally lame.

Hmm, I'd go with the countess quest, as the treasure she releases is pretty lowly, even when going through it the first time, and on succeeding difficulties the rewards are cheaper(unless there's a boss drop on her like mephisto).
So is someone going to make a thread about the best personalized names now? " Jesus's waterwalk sharkskin boots"

I didn't vote for the personalizing quest because if everything is personalized, and you get hacked, the hacker will think "ewww perfect NAMED coa" and won't take it...

Alright he can still take your charms and rings... but atleast you'll save that perfect CoA!!

Hah, never thought of that...
I didn't know Jesus had to wear Sharkskin boots to walk on water.

I voted for the Gidbinn quest because Ormus always delivers a totally worthless ring.

Also I disagree with the general majority that the Nihlathak/personalization quest is useless. Anya's personalization repairs durability, even on ethereal items. AFAIK, this is the only way to repair ethereals, so it is not only very unique but can be very useful under the right circumstances.

thanks for that tip greyghost. that means i'll get twice as much use out of my eth bonesnaps and eth honour rws.

also i really must get round to making that "fanny-flaps's crushflange"

I voted uber Tristam, although it could just as well have been uber Diablo.

I play Single Player.

Act 2, Quest 2 (the Horadric Staff).

I hate underground tunnels, and the maggot lair is one of the worst. You go down with a big group, and 1 person stands in front killing things, with everybody else backed up behind him preventing him from retreating if he's about to die. At least the Viper Amulet can be somewhat useful for new characters.

The single best quest is Act 3, Quest 2 (Khalim's Will). Izzy is a close second, but in the end I'd rather have fewer skill points on my final characters than be left without the single greatest tweaking item in the game. Every single character I make uses Khalim's Will at least through Act 1, and it's hard to beat 1-hit kills for practically an entire act. Yes, these tunnels are horrible, too, but at least the monsters are a little more entertaining than in Act 2. I always love those bats that guard the entrance to the Sewers 2. Plus, you have to click on that little wheel-thingy to make the stairs open. Best of all, you only have to do the quest once, and then you can reuse the item for every single character you make. Much better than having to wander around in hell, muttering under your breath about how cheap gloams are, and then whacking on a big stupid monster that does no damage but has horrifically high HP combined with freezing attacks that make you hit slower. What a crap combination that is.

And personalization sucks? Constantly worrying about resale value of something is a horrible way to play the game (or deal with anything in life, for that matter). Yeah, my couch is a cheap POS, but it's the most comfortable couch I've ever had, and that's what matters, not if I could get $15 more at a rummage sale if I have to eventually sell it. If I find some godly rare, I'm definitely sticking my name on it. Who doesn't remember X-Factor Celine's mage plate? I bet you wouldn't if it was just some random item name. It's just too bad you can't personalize every single item on a character. Well, you kind of can; just make a few characters with the same name except for periods at the end of the names or something like that, rush them, and personalize your entire outfit. Now that's classy.

The Nihlathak quest is rather useless, other than naming a character something utterly hilarious, and then finding an item with a similar name to get that redundancy thing going... i.e.: "Dirk_Diggler's The Diggler Dirk"

*Requiem_Death

I vote for the barbarians. I did this quest once and that was when I first started playing quite a while back. Such a useless reward.

trading that bloody bird for a drink in order to get 10 life.....
It's better than nothing. +20 to your base life means a lot more life is added after BO and such. Besides, it's not like the quest is hard or take that long.

That's right, you're just fighting monsters (champions, or even Travincal's council), and *pops* here comes your +20 Life bonus  ! Not too boring if you ask me .

There's no SP mod that can simulate this quest  ?

I believe there's one that simulates the Diablo Clone, but haven't tried it. I've heard there's one that tries to approximate Uber Tristram, but since the coding for the real deal is all serverside it comes nowhere close. Supposed to be very easy, and the mod also has a bunch of cheesy stuff that makes it unwelcome in the Single Player Forum. I like to multiplay with other single players from time to time, so stay away from the mod so I don't taint any characters.
