Most embarrassing death?

Eh, I don't think deaths to IM are particularly embarrassing, mainly because it's basically a 1-hit KO on any melee character. And those OKs do love to cast it JUST as you start attacking, so you can't back out.

I agree, usually IM deaths aren't too embarrassing because the situation is often quickly over and a single OK can be hidden somewhere, no matter how well you've checked the place. But, I've faced a couple rather amusing, somewhat embarrassing IM deaths:

Let's take a bulky Barbarian, pumped with power and muscle, ready to do some whirly-business in the Chaos Sanctuary. He's anxious to kill some demons and undead, but still well aware of the insta-death possibility.
He steps to big D's door and checks the party, no OKs near, just chunky demons to chop, exactly what our Barbarian wants. He starts whirling, but uh oh, it already went bad, our heroic Barbarian clicked on the monster, not by the monster and the demon decides to escape. And oh how beautifully our Barbarian slides over the doormat, beyond the hallway and arrives to the livingroom where the party is on big time! There's everyone, Doom Knights, some Storm Casters, lots of Venom Lords and of course Oblivion Knights.
So, our Barbarian is still whirling behind the Venom Lord who's heading to the back of the living room and surprise surprise, they're listening to Iron Maiden. You're like 'nono', but they're like 'ah'ha' and then you go "Uaaaarrg".

It's happened to me, I'm sure it's happened to other people too.

I have a fun story from my MP with friends today.

This one wasn't my character's death, but I was involved, and I was literally rolling on the ground laughing because of it.

We were looking for Cold Crow in hell difficulty, and my Diablo crashes. I manage to exit out of the game, but I'm still showing up in their game. I try to rejoin, but get an error. (Since the game still thought I was there.)

One of my friends decides to see if he can "kick" me out of the game by killing my character. So, he hostiles me and runs back to where I am. And gets one shotted by my Rogue. So, he now has the distinct honor of being the only person I've ever know to be killed by something that wasn't actually even in the game.

Cat: XD!! That is the most awesome failure ever.

I don't really have any really embarrassing deaths. Just a few mishaps with teleporting into a pack rather than casting stuff at it. Wrong skill ftl!

edit: However, now that I think of it, one of those teleporting mishaps did involve a pack of fallen. At least it was in Hell. xP

Well I was in a dueling game with my lvl 97 hammerdin just messing around and got hit by a poisonjav zon to where my health was down to around 50-100. Next thing I know, a message pops up saying that I died by a spiked fiend. Just a regular, crappy spiked fiend. Even though I lost about 1 mil gold, I thought it was worth it I was laughing so hard.

@Cat: guess this makes for a moral: "Don't mess with rogues!" Which bow did she use?
She was just using a regular Riphook. Of course, she was also had the advantage of a high level enchant and had Venom active from treachery. Let's just say my friend's character was a little light on Vitality. :wink3:

Occulus sorceress anyone?
Worldstone keep level 2 or 3. My sorc hit by an imp and auto-teleported in the middle of a bunch of stygian fury, she auto-teleported between imp, quill rat and stygian fury groups until die.

My second ever HC char- I managed to get a level 74 fishymancer. I wanted to go to the pit in hell, assuming my amazing minions would protect me. Walked through the outer cloister and see a tiny little spike from a spike fiend flying towards me.
BANG
Your deeds will be remembered.
!?!?!?!
I didn't even see what the stats were...
I don't do much HC any more. Too demoralising.

I've done this one many times. Go to press alt to check for good drops, hit the windows key, which minimizes the game. My comp is slow, so it can take up to 30 seconds to get it back up, bang. Dead. (usually to undeserving monsters)

I pried off my Windows key. Also got rid of F12, as I always hit that when trying to take screenshots in First Person Shooters. F12 changes between windowed and full screen modes in a lot of FPS games, which takes an absurd amount of time (2+ minutes each way :yikes: )

I have changed my "show items" key from alt to space, as this is the key I use the most and I like space better. It took a little getting used to at first but now it works great.

I remember I had some boots with x% to cast blaze when struck. It was in Hell Act1, Rakanischu was chasing me and I got hit by archers. While running away, he chased me and triggered his LE-enchant. His lighting got me killed, but only because he walked in the blaze that was casted from my boots. :S It was softcore so...

That, sir, is not an embarrassing death. That's a work of art.

Merc leveled, died. "I feel stronger now"
ROFL!
Somewhat similar story here. I gave him a potion with shift+4. He said "Thanks!" and died. I realized that I gave him an antidote potion (O.o)

When 1.10 came out I competed on the HC ladder, and was #4 overall at level 94 with my Amazon. I died because I was doin a shenk run and lagged while my merc killed a FE mob next to me. It wasnt really embarassing but I figured i'd share it

Exploding cow in Tristam. Was getting hammered by a boss pack of skellie archers and was running back toward the red portal, not realizing I clicked on the dead cow...BOOM!!
I didn't know that it did that, so I just fired up the game and tried it. Too funny! I used a high vit character, but it still did a lot of damage. Anyone know the stats?
