MF Secrets?

whew, thanks for clearing that one up. i was afriad i'd have to see a bunch of real-word game names next time i got on bnet.

Magic find is all luck based, that is after factoring in Area Level, monster level and monster killed and MF %.

this "no drop" issue has been around for awhile. i figured it out along time ago (early.09 i believe) when i was doing meph runs. i noticed that when i killed meph near a wall or pillar...nothin would drop, but when i killed him on or near the circle in the center of the room....a shiny trinket would be my reward. this is even easier to see in areas already discussed above (cata lvl 4,arcane,river,etc).

What's this about the Summoner? I'd like to verify that...

I'll share all the "secrets", or rather myths that i've made up based on the good drops i've gotten...

Only time i found tals armor was when i was MFing with my sorc who was wearing skullders. Seems that the game drops class specific set stuff based on the char you have and the items you're using, cuz now that i use tals armor i haven't found another... this might be hoakey but ya never know.

Same with tals ammy. i was using eye of etlich, and whoop, a tal ammy drops, early in the development of my MF char...

Also, it seems you get better drops if you name the game with real words. In other words, you'll get better drops in a game named "Guts and Glory" than in a game named "f92h348alkhv"
Dunno if a password has anything to do with this.

All i know is using the name trick i found 2 arreats in a row, whereas the 20 games previous i'd gotten nothing.

Anyhoo, i hope you enjoyed reading my "secrets" :D

I'm sorry chekr,

if this happened to me too i'd agree abit with you...but i found a few tal ammys wearing 1/2 the tal set while doing runs...so it's not very true

i once believed that the game drop class specific items based on what character you use, but i gotten almost every class specific drop just with my sorceress.....

but i did relate in another thread that b.net might be controlling the drop rate of various high end items. but pretty much got flamed for that. :xmad:

To expand on that, remember to do NM andy for SOJ (I found one!! (ok ok, took me about 150 runs and after finding 15 manalds you feel quite ready to give up))

Is there some "perfect" mf for this? how much mf I should have to get the "best" changes to find SoJ from nmare andy?? ( or as much as possible? )

As always, the best MF is the highest MF possible that doesn't hamper your killing speed.

Note that getting killed because you sacrificed resistances for MF counts as a negative effect on your killing speed, even though you didn't actually kill Andariel... and did in fact successfully kill something.

well just to throw my 1 cent and a half in.i have played with 400+ mf,i know you have too,and found diddly squat.i recently got a coh and some other nice stuff for my sorc and my mf went to under a 100 and i do just as well as did before.as stated before its all luck.

Me finding a mal rune just killing monsters on random was luck (happened once in my whole long D2 career so not THAT much luck). I wish id come to the forums sooner.

Anyway about the summoner drop theory, I do know that killing him for quest always gives me a rare jewel, but high runes? You know what really drops high runes a LOT?...

Nothing

Until yesterday I have been running hell pits for about 2 months now using a bowazon with no mf whatsoever and found loads of 3 and 4 socket armours, bows and shields, (both normal and ethereal) and magic items, but no rares or uniques. Then yesterday I changed to MF kit of 300% and found no socketed items but loads of rares and an odd low level unique.

MF is definately better.
