MF Rant!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, MF has no influence on the determination of base items, so if all you get are breastplates, MF will just increase their chance to become magical, rare, Isenhart's or Venom Ward

Heya,

MF can indeed be frustrating. I've found over the years that having variety is the key. If you just run the same bosses over and over, guaranteed drops of some kind that end up being really bad, you really start to hate it. This is why I rarely run bosses anymore. I don't get guaranteed drops like bosses give, but I can still get any item in the game fall at my toes, and the thrill of not knowing what will drop this run keeps it fresh enough for me. That, and I use 3 different characters for my MFing.

Goldfind Barb: I have him covered in MF. He's got a little over 400+ right now and a little over 1700% gold on top of it. I walk out to the Hell council and let my merc poke them to death. I pick up on average 500,000ish gold, and a wide assortment of rares, sets, uniques time to time, but really, lots of jewels, charms and gems (and some runes!). I really like killing them because each one drops a load... and find item gives me over 50% chance to get them to drop all over again. The runs are profitable to me every single time because of the gold, and the items I get on top of it are the cherry. I then gamble more items with said gold, like amulets and circlets. Overall, my favorite way to MF. Always something good. Always. Not one wasted run. Oh, and the runs are stupid easy, so it's not frustrating like tele'ing into death and all that...

ColdSorc, Ancient Tunnels: I really love MFing in the tunnels with my sorc. Granted, any character can do it. it's super easy with a Paladin too. But I just like using the sorc because I can tele there quickly and zip around. And in the end, pop a super chest. It's a relatively fast run. Anything can drop. My first windforce fell at my feet there. And it's funny, I've seen so many Hydra bows drop at my feet in the tunnels just the past few days. I do this in public baal run (full games) typically, because... I'm also getting great XP there too, I went from 75 to 86 just in the Tunnels in full games. I've gotten fond of this more than the Pits actually, so my poor MF necro hasn't done much lately other than hold items.

Summoner Necro, Pits: He's just covered in MF. Nevermind resists and all that. I just walk into pindle's house, summon my skellies like I own the place, tear open pindle and then go kill Elitch as well. Next stop is the Pits in Act1. Anything can drop. Lots of things drop. Good Xp too. Then again, he can MF anywhere really. But I like him in the Pits and various other areas.

Hammerdin, Chaos Sanc: I use zero MF on this guy. Just raw survival. Not even raw damage. The point is to just kill the place and get Runes, gems and white items (socketing purposes) like Monarchs, elite weapons, ethereal stuff, armors, etc. Most of these things are more important and worth more than basically any unique to me since these can and are often more rare with the right configuration of sockets. Runes are runes, and of course, loved. Diablo and his buddies are just the icing. I often switch out a MF helm for them just in case... usually rares and sets, or lots of blues. Don't care about that though, I'm there for elite socketed items.

ColdSorc, Meph: I hate running bosses, but now and then, I run meph a few times. I only do it with an Isted Gull dagger and Rhyme on switch for 155% MF, and on body, I have about ~100% more from socketed things and boots/belt/ammy. I keep her focused on surviving mainly, and killing speed. I recently switched to a Blizz sorc and like it much more than Orb. I find it to be faster for how I run. Anyhow, I do about 4~5 runs. Then stop. I go back to area hunting with another character, or into the Tunnels with her.

-- In general, I run an area, then do a few meph runs, then switch up and do another area. Barb... pally... sorc... necro... pally... barb.... sorc... etc. Keeps it all fresh. I find a variety of stuff. And honestly, my mules are hating me as I tend to get more items from area runs than the `junk' drops of bosses. So, in other words, MF is working.

Cheers,

nicely covered.. dont really agree on the hammerdin part for few reasons.

- cs is 85 area like pit and anc tunnels
- dia can drop nice items too
- most hdins run nilah too and he can drop nice items too
- you alredy have the eni (mostly on cs hdins) granting average 90ish mf. gheed ~35ish avg and harle 50/74 gets you up and running quite nicely.

My favorite place to run is the Pits, my paladin has almost 200% MF when running the pits :

Tal's Armor - 88

Blade of Ali Baba - 80ish

Goldwrap belt - 30

I managed to find the Griswold Vortex Shield here. After I found Tal's Armor with 110ish MF in this same place.

I really like pit runs. They're manageable.

yeah, the pits are great. High Area level or whatever, and easy to kill monsters with physical or melee characters. (or hammerdins but nothing slows those bastards down)

I love the pits too, but I can't stress enough how annoying it is to me personally to see the carvers bolt for the corners or come back to life. Really irritating. But I've found and enjoyed lots of great stuff from the pits. Good XP too. I think in the end though, I like the tunnels a bit more simply due to the monsters always coming to you, and they're all slow monsters, so they never come running from out of a corner with fant and bows and arrows and cold enchanted....

Cheers,

I usually prefer pits myself cause it seems like there's more monsters there (plus it's easier to find)

Places I mf or used to mf (summoner on previous ladder, blizz sorc this ladder):

Mausoleum: Pretty easy to find, even when you take the wrong path direction. Definitely not a bad place for my blizz sorc.

Pits: Mostly was pretty safe here. Summons would protect me and I've found some pretty good stuff down here. Loved mfing there with my summoner. Can't do it with my blizz sorc.

Andy: Easy to tele to, glitch drops aren't like meph (where you can't go past that act), and can drop some good stuff.

Ancient Tunnels: On rare occasions I'll run this. Not a bad spot, but just not crazy about it.

Meph: Love this guy. Found plenty of nice stuff off of him. Never used to mess with him, but this ladder he's my main mf income. Added bonus of the weapon/armor racks, and plenty of regular & unique council members.

Travincal Council: Good spot to mf also, and lots of gold to boot.

Diablo: Just ended up being too long for my tastes so I stopped running him so much.

Shenk & Eldritch: 2 super uniques that are right next to each other *and* a wp? Nice =D

Pindle: I would go here all the time with my summoner. Easy to ce here, really easy to get skellies, and I could always see if Pindle had something nice for me.

Baal: Another guy that was more effort than he was worth for me. Didn't mf him much.

Edit: This thread seems a little off-course. As far as getting bad drops, it's just how mf is. Completely random. Certainly would be a lot less random if there was no chance at all for you to have a bad dry spell.

I have recently increased my mf to 553% with the Meteorb sorc but am having a dry spell as well. My spell has lasted most of the day (a first). Usually, I find a Shako, Mara, or Raven Frost ring but today nothing. I, too, have blues and yellows and only one key from the Summoner. Usually he pimps those items out to me.

Desperate, I tried to create an involved mf game but still had the same results despite more players and even a relatively same killing speed.
