Median XL Hardcore Challenge - Mitsuki

I made a quick video for the countess. ( audio got corrupted, don't know why- I'll try to fix it later ). I highly recommend not doing this quest at all, but if you really want to, this might help. Note, the positions of witches change every game, and sometimes they can be right outside the door. This is on destruction, but its mostly the same on terror. I used edyrems, but you can use lolsummons instead, but I suggest not using regular summons like fire elemental. Also I did a mephisto run after that, cause why the hell not. At any rate don't be like this guy :p

Also what's your equipment status? I suppose you are using T6 herald of skartara and T6 Jitan's Kamun ( splint mail )? In A2 terror, you'll be able to find a Jah rune to make the siegfried runeword for helm, and also abandoned crafts for gloves and boots.

You might also want to start thinking about LC2, you'll need atleast 2 honorifics for that and also a book of summoning which costs ~200k, so get some gold.

Good vid - I like the music. Also love that other guy's video - bahaha. Yep, Median is not a mod to go in completely blind. :)
I find Fire Elementals move a little too quick back towards you, so they can actually lure the Witches closer instead of further. But unfortunately, Kana won't be able to attempt it. Things had really begun to get interesting though - some interesting items like those Evil Eye's, and some new ones like this Sacred item and a Gloomy Shrine.

But first, Kana went to take on the Butcher (sorry, no pics of him, but I already had the Book of Summoning) followed by the Ennead Challenge, and try to kill the Ennead Necromancers. This is also a level challenge, where you can only cube your Class-specific charm if you are below level 80 (or 90, but I think the next one was 90.) Following some guides and tips, and some information from the SC Amazon, Kana went only for the top right Necromancer. She ran straight to him, ignoring all the purple invincible (and vulnerable alike), into the corner, and started Barraging and Wyrmshots. And, after several goes, found the correct Amazon-specific Sacred Sunstone.

Now things are getting interesting! She's a strong, well developed character, with solid damage and good strategy. And I'm not wanting her to die! So, moving through Act 2 was easy. But there was a danger, where she had to use proper tactics. The teleporting demons are very dangerous, and get an instant hit with no warning. So her tactic was to ensure that her Fire Elemental summonables were always cast in front and around her.

She progressed into the Dry Hills, and...

Fata Morgana - These demons teleport you randomly away from them upon hit. With Fire Elementals in front of her and surrounding her, Kana pushed forward, carefully, cautiously.
And, with no warning, a Fata Morgana telestomped Kana, teleporting her into an open area, and... Insta-deeds. It even ignored the Fire Elementals around her, and snuffed her out in half a second.

GG NOOB!

@zaphod - how's the Sorc coming along?.

Kana's items were - T5/T6 Skartara, T5/T6 Leather of Aut (+% Bonus to DEX and VIT), T5/T6 Deathspurs I believe, Honorific gloves and belt with +stat and +resist Orbs, rare rings and amulet I believe, a rare Arrow Quiver (also with +Stats.)

Yes exactly, that is why you use lolsummons or edyrems not normal summons.

But first, Kana went to take on the Butcher (sorry, no pics of him, but I already had the Book of Summoning) followed by the Ennead Challenge

The butcher is part of the Black road challenge ( trial of fear ), which requires the class specific charm from the ennead challenge, so I'm not sure what you did here, or why. At any rate the BRC is usually not attempted till the end of terror ( level 120 ). Still, gratz on beating him, he's a little tricky, even though being the easiest uber.

Ouch, bad luck on that deeds. There's a superunique pack of Fata morgana in the Lost city, led by Fatal Morgana ( ha ), they are invisible and quite dangerous. I think that is what got you.
I think you were a little underleveled too, lvl 76 in Lost City? Meh.

Didn't play the sorc much.. just done the 2nd quest in Act1. level 12.
So any plans now, going to try again?

I don't know if it still works, but I used to be able to survive witches (they would miss) when teleporting with the necro and 50+ summons or so. the witch would kill about 3/4 of the summons and not me. not a thing I would test in HC though. also I think they only do 50k magic damage, so if you have more life than that you might survive it. not sure if the nova hits multiple times though, if it does you would still die.

Minion stacking could possible work but definitely not for HC purposes. I remember reading jiansonz thread were he suspected ghosts stacking onto eachother results in them protecting eachother from standing in firewall so they just burned down one at a time when on top of one another. Teleing with 50 summons probably fills up all pixels around you at some point and something wierd happens..

I went to the Butcher for the same reason of playing HC Median - the challenge, and to see if I could beat him. He was on Nightmare, and was reasonably easy - just got to get that rune summoned under his feet so you can actually damage him! Until then, just keep spamming Elementals.

Yeah. I knew that pack was somewhere around the area, and was being cautious by keeping elemental summons ahead of Kana, but they teleport on top of you - normally you can see the lighting of invisible creatures, but not with Fata Morgana - it had to be a telestomp. I had done much of the area (I was actually heading to get the waypoint, and then get some levels for the LC2 near the Claw Viper temple when Kana got deedzed,) and hadn't run into any Fata morgana's prior to that meeting, so I am pretty sure it was Fatal Morgana's pack.

As to level 76 being low, she killed very fast. And was very safe. It's... just the instant telestompers that did her damage, and her tactic was to get them to teleport onto the summonables, which... Clearly didn't work. XD But yeah, she was a very safe and strong character, with a good strategy - that didn't seem to work.

Next up - short break since I'm getting back into work now and defeated Hatred, and maybe a Sorc or Barb if I can get some Median MP happening. It won't be my last HC character, but next will be onto Ultimative, and beating Terror. :)

Ah, going to start ultimative? Sounds nice. Which version? ultimative v7 used to be very popular but ultimative XI is the newest one.
Make sure to do the level 5 challenge. Though the charm reward isn't as good in XI as in v7.

Median MP? so are you going to join the Tsin war realm? Don't know how many people play HC there..

Edit: Get the latest ultimative documentation for v XI, it's the best. Though to be honest, I don't know what documentation you were using up to now.

There's more versions of Ultimative? I just got the first Ultimative I found from the main Median Ultimative site/forum - not sure how to check versions though. Level 5 challenge is done. It's not difficult, but I did get a couple of deaths to it. First one was because I spawned in near a swamp/unmovable area, and... the pathfinding went around the swamp area, straight into the boss. Another few deaths were while rerunning for a +10 All stat charm - not sure why it matters, but if she makes it further, better stats would always be more welcome. I just had to get used to the Challenge, but it was fairly straight forward, and early deaths are always better than later ones.

I'm hoping some people from the forums/hamachi group would be interested in a Median run sometime - I haven't looked into realms yet, but realms would be good as well. Definitely not HC though - my connection would get me killed with all the effects and characters moving about. :)

If you got it from the main ultimative page, it's probably ultimative XI. Simple way to check, does your Harkon crystal have 10% FHR,FCR,IAS, etc? if not then it is ultimative xi ( that charm has all those bonuses in v7, but was nerfed majorly ).

Thought you didn't enjoy SC?
Hm, a forum or hamachi group sounds interesting. I don't think it would work, though.

Yeah, the Hakon Crystal didn't have 10% FHR/FCR/IAS, so I have the most recent version.

I get bored of SC due to the lack of risk, but MP SC is still enjoyable because you're talking and with people. MP HC for me would be very dangerous - I imagine my connection and laptop wouldn't handle it. :(

Median is meant to be able to be played via TCP IP, so it should work - the Sin War realm doesn't seem to be very active based on the status numbers, so hopefully someone around the forums may be interested. :)

Ah, lol - I'm still playing Ultimative. I was also hoping to hear how your Sorc was going. I was kind of expecting and hoping you'd post an update as to her. :)
I decided to make a HC Ultimative sorc myself, but after an early death, made a Softcore Sorc. She was a blast, going Fire/Cold (those +life passives seem to go pretty well together,) and is ~level 115-117'ish, having completed Terror difficulty - she's not yet ready to move into Destruction, as she's still aiming to get to level 120 before moving on.

It's either the Sorceress, or Ultimative, but Misaka felt quite a lot easier than the Median XL Wyrmshot zons. It feels like Ultimative has removed a couple of the dangerous mobs, including Fatal Morgana! it's still tough, but feels easier. Ultimative has also added the Character Orb, which allows you extra bonuses while levelling, to make the early game easier - I like it, but I also think it's an unrequired early boost (I've already looked up what happens if you use it at level 120, so know what will occur if one tries - definitely discard this before level 120!)

Misaka has done a few of the challenges, including Terror's Countess quest (quite fun, but fairly easy to be honest - Banshees/Wyrds just make it too straight forward,) and the Challenge of getting close to a Witch and cubing her class charm (complete accident!) She was running around, and went to hide from the nearby Witch in a corner - suddenly, the sound effect came up, and a star began appearing on Misaka - without even trying, the Witch was the perfect distance away from the corner Misaka was hiding in to allow her to cube her Charm.

After getting Misaka (SC) through Terror, I created a HC Ultimative Sorc (LvlSix_Railgun) while on my overnight work trips in the middle of this week. I've been working away quite a lot lately, so thought I might just give HC another shot. She's only just started though, so can't give any progress. The SC Sorc is a fun character though.

Unfortunately, I have had quite a workload these past few weeks. So no time to play Diablo 2, median xl or ultimative. Maybe next month I can get some time on weekends.

Ultimative is easier than Median XL, especially at the beginning. Harkon crystal, gift box, character orb are the obvious ones of course, but you can also find set items in terror ubers ( like K3KBA, Tran Athualua ), which would probably make the rest of the game a walkover if you farmed enough in terror to manage to complete a set. Unlike Diablo 2, sets are really powerful in this game.

Also in destruction you can find SSSU items, which are very rare but crazy strong. They are kinda imbalanced and so while you'll find that that some of the destruction ubers are toned up a bit in difficulty, your character has better gear than in classic and thus makes it easier. MarcoNecroX ( creator of ultimative ) has publicly stated that he regrets ever having made sssu items.

The real challenge in ultimative I think is the end game new ultimative ubers. In classic MXL, the hardest uberquest in the game is Brother Laz (secret boss ), which is practically impossible.. It requires a dedicated character build, good equipment, experience, player skill and luck.. And even then most players try to cheese it in various ways because it is just so terrifyingly hard, even when compared with other terrifyingly hard ubers like Vizjun, Astrogha. And here's the kicker, about 50% of the new ultimative ubers are as nearly as hard as Laz or even worse. Witch, Uldyssian, Chrysoar, Yshari, Kabraxis, Brycharian, Triune, ugh. I'm convinced that this stuff was made for masochists or people with a lot of time.

Well, I've never bothered with mods before, but I just had a really good experience with Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, so I thought I'd give MXL a go. I don't even know what to expect (as reading the manual is for when either it's broken or you get stuck), but off we go.

Wonder how far I can get with a HC barb on my first try...

Good luck with Median - but it is not for blind HC runs. When I did mine, it was with a SC character 'leading the way,' essentially. Median XL is quite a good mod - a complete change to the game really, and is fairly fast paced with lots of AoE skills and damage effects.

HC Barb, first try, without any knowledge (if you read this thread, it may help,) but you probably won't get through all of Act 1. My guess is either Countess, or the Underground Passage. If you've read the thread and some info, and know what to look for, many early dangers are easy to overcome, so it's hard to say, but good luck with it, and let us know how you progress.

I got scared at how different it was, and went out onto the Blood Moor where I got really badly mobbed and then ran away.. I feel it would be contrary to the way I've approached MXL so far to read anything, but I'll return to MXL directly, and post about how I get on.

*fears*

Play blind, enjoy it, and run for your life. A new hero will venture out soon enough. :)
Just see how far you can push it. :) Good luck!

Update on HC Sorc, LvlSix_Raingun when I get back from my work trip away for the rest of the week. What's she doing? A1 Terror, and hopefully the Witches/Countess Tower!

Ultimative Minigames - LvlSix_Railgun - HC Sorc

Minigame 1 - Witch Queen

Get through the scatter of Witches on the final level of The Tower, and kill the Witch Queen, the Countess!

Well, the Witches/Countess Tower mini-game was tough. It's a simple concept - Get too close to any Witch, and they Pounce for an insta-kill. Other than that, they don't do anything. But, your merc doesn't die easily, so it's difficult to get rid of him before entering this area. The Daystar summons are good, as they don't move unless they can target an enemy, so you can use them to get the Witches out of your way.
But, any mistake, and it's GG Noob. And keeping the merc alive is a big mistake. It was as if he wanted to lure the Witches right on top of the Railgun. But slowly, Daystar summonables repositioned the Witches far enough away, and the Railgun made her way to the Countess. The rest was easy, but still, for a HC challenge, the tension was high.

Minigame 2 - Crowned

Simple. Find a Witch (Tamoe Highlands has them,) which had a special ability. This ability is displayed by a diamond appearing on any hero or minion close enough. Once this Witch has been found, get close enough to trigger the ability, and cube the Class Charm (unique, upgradable charm.)

The Challenge? Get too close, and deedz. This is why I like HC. You can do this all you want in SC, but in HC, you get one shot. You have to be so careful.

So, Attempt #1. Railgun couldn't get close enough comfortably to the Witch, and had to relocate the Witch, and try from a better position. In truth, neither position was better, but it still felt like it was due to the change.
After inching forward, little by little, Success! But there is very little room for error. Definitely a trying challenge, and the music/sound that plays when you encounter one is a great addition.

The reward for completing this challenge is that your skills can have one extra maximum level placed into them.
