Median XL general chit chat

I stopped playing right after trying faust. Got raped so hard lol, even with paragon. I can't help you there, but maybe Incubator can, if he sees this

Ha, yes Fauztinville.. It's a really really tough place, especially for a melee character. My suggestion is to get better gear and get some charms. It wasn't too hard on bow ama, I just had to be really careful, it only takes a couple hits to die. But even then I had my endgame gear, sacred uniques, most of the charms etc. As I said, its hard on a melee char, get better gear and once you survive a bit better take them down in small packs.

At least I can do faust on hatred. Duncraig and Astrogha kick my butt even on hatred!
I really like that the uber levels are hard.

Incubator, can you post your current gear and skill set?

I just found my first unique, the war axe! Nimjrushren or something impossible to spell, a druid oriented one. Also I have found 5-6 set items though. Is that common ( finding set items much more than uniques ) ?

The area levels are 60/115/120 for hatred/terror/destruction, so it's pretty hard even in terror. And Astrogha is one of if not the hardest uber, I don't even have that charm yet. I'm lacking one piece of gear to give me 100% curse lenght duration though, have to try it out then. Wyrmshot is the main skill I use, occasionally cheesing with ghost arrow. Maxed dragonlore and estatic frenzy, I don't find the 0 defence that bad, especially with SoV tanking for me. I picked my gear just to farm Duncraig: Gjallahorn (any SU is basically a solid choise, or even the T6 reflex bow) Royal Circlet (Withchunter's Hood (set cap, Shako of median) is probably a better choice, I use it mainly for the mf.) Random amulet with ctc Doom (really helps with killing speed) Scales of the Serpent (really rare, I'm not sure its even that good on this character, the suggested T6 chain mail is probably just as good) 2x Empyrean Bands MO'd with ctc thunder hammer/dex/-res etc. Belt is Lilith's Temptation, only for the 200mf bonus. Crafted dexterity boots and some random gloves. Fauzt can be done without taking any hits at all, once you find a good bow and get some damage you could try again, hopefully it'll go smoother that time. It still won't be easy though, you just have to play it carefully. And yes, set items are more common. Edit: Sorry, wall of text, enter doesn't seem to work

I see.. so you think the most important item is the weapon huh?

This is the bow that I'm currently using ( the resists really help )

If I'm using EF, then I don't need the armor pieces to be sacred right? That would help eliminate the str requirements. I have runes upto On, so I can make runewords like Dragonheart, siegfried, etc?

Also, does the socket punch recipe work with rares? What about Larzuk?

Also, I keep hearing about Thunder hammer. What does it do?

Edit: Also I need some survival tips. Is it absolutely necessary to dodge stuff like quillrat spines or is there a way around it? If one of those hits me, I lose like 1/3 hp.

Herald of Skartara
Reflex Bow (6)
Two-Hand Damage: (466-522) to (673-752)
(Amazon Only)
Required Dexterity: 570
Required Level: 57
4% Chance to cast level 13 Phalanx when you Kill an Enemy
4% Chance to cast level 13 Celerity when you Kill an Enemy
+(261 to 300)% Enhanced damage
40% Increased Attack Speed
Adds (131-150)-(211-240) damage
+(11 to 12) to Elfin Weapons
(36 to 40)% Chance of Uninterruptable Attack
(131 to 150)% Extra Gold from Monsters
Socketed: 6

Better dmg. 6 sox. Faster Attack Speed. Chance To Cast, which is useful in this game. Why don't you try this one?

Make a T6 reflex bow, it really good. Good enough to farm Duncraig in destruction. (kinda slow, but definately doable) Ctc on strike/kill is really good, since some spells deal damage based on weapon damage. Like thunder hammer, it deals 1/2 weapon damage, stuns and knocks back.

If you make runewords and use EF, no it doesn't matter. But uniques are much better, you should go with what the guide suggests. Afaik, the recipe doesn't work on rares, Larzuk should.

Quillrats have huge dps, they will kill most characters if you just stand still. Get some items with revives (like unique chain mail) and SoV helps here too. Then just stand behind your minions and spam wyrmshot.

I had found the Herald of Skartara earlier while playing spearazon but had got rid of it ( no Plugy at that time ). Now no reflex bow is dropping for me!

I am now instead using a shrine crafted sacred stag bow with 630 avg dmg and 92 mf. Damage is fine. Survivability is crap. It's all very well to talk about shooting behind minions, but in them narrow places you can't tell if a mob is round the corner. Plus the SoV won't go where you want it to go all the time.

I made 3 ber crafted jewels. Lifeleech is.. well what should I say. I don't think it even works, I couldn't see my hp going up even by 1 point. As a result it's basically all potions all the time, which is the frustrating part.

I have crafted earth rouser ring and the tremor proc is noticeable, I also MO'ed some stuff with thunder hammer and doom but I can't see their usefulness really..

Destruction
Level range (regular game) : 120
Level range (uberquests) : 120

After reaching the level cap, Inferno awaits. Every monster is level 120 and is extremely aggressive. Regular monsters range from 100K to 300K health and deal 500 to 1000 damage, but uberquest monsters go far beyond that. Abandon all hope. ?Leech is reduced to 1/200 to make up for high attack damage at this point in the game.

TL;DR: leech sux

Yeah, I guess I figured that out.

The whole playstyle sucks imo. Shooting behind minions tanking is all fine, but that assumes that monsters come at you from a wide open area in front. This doesn't happen. There are narrow corridors where you have to lead the way, invisible stuff sneaks up on you all the time, things pop out of the ground when you don't expect them. And every other monster has a silly death animation that you sometimes can't avoid. As for spearzon, I don't know what to say, what is the point of having a melee character that can't tank or leech and gets owned by almost everything. Lvling up in hatred or terror was interesting, but I don't think the endgame of MXL is for me. It's like the D3 inferno on steroids, if one goes by the qq threads in the D3 forum.

I did complete the butcher with my spearazon, so that's something I guess. He was still one hitting me, so I just stood behind some fire elementals and great-hunted him to death.

Doing the Butcher without minions is kinda of impossible, but I agree with you: end-game sucks for alot of builds. If I ever start playing again and lvl up my Barb, I want to see what he is able to do, but until then...
